The condo needed updating. It is in a good location but you must remember when you rent this villa there is no house keeper. You have to buy toilet paper, paper towel, laundry soap (to wash the towels), and dish soap. This is a great expense when you are only staying a week. The week we stayed there was construction below us. They started a jack hammer to remove tile at 9 a.m. and did not quit until around 3. This was so load that you could not sleep or watch tv. This also went on four of the 7 days we were there. I understand that the owner cannot help when someone is doing renavations, but the association should have a rule on letting other owners know, expecially when it was beyond a noise level that is continuous for hours and days.

Location wise this is a great deal. Walk to Town Square (about 4 blocks) right on the beach in a quiet building. Kitchen was well equiped for those wanting to stay home and cook. Bed was comfortable and the screened porch was wonderful for breakfast and dinner. Only real complaint - and it's minor - this unit has not been re-decorated since the early 80's. Many units in the same price range are fresh and new..this unit is clean and well maintained - it is just showing it's age.The building itself is immaculate and so is this unit.

My wife and I rented a one bedroom condo at Gateway Villas in Ft. Myers Beach the week of 5/21/11-5/28/11. Check in involves going to the realtor's office and picking up the keys, instructions and then driving to the condo which is about a 5 minute drive. The condo was sufficiently clean and comfortable and beach front. The balcony of the condo is screened in, perhaps there is a bug problem at different times of the year but we did not experience an insect problem. I would actually have liked the balcony better if it wasn't screened because the screen hinders your view a little and also stops a small breeze. There are no restaurants or shops in the condo building which would be convenient coming off the beach hungry but they are many a short dive away. The beach is nice and the gulf waters in front of the condo are very shallow out to about 75 yards. The condo is about a half mile north of Time Square the center of Ft. Myers beach. In Times Square you will find the typical pizza, ice cream and beach shops. One evening my wife drove out to Sanibel and Captiva islands which are about a 30 minute drive. Sanibel and Captiva are more sophisticated for an older couple looking for a nice dinner but there are plenty of good restaurants in Ft. Myers Beach. All in all we had a nice vacation at the Gateway Villas and for the price it is hard to beat.
Love the location. Quiet, yet close to Times Square (south) and a nature preserve (north). The only thing I found to be an issue was the matress cover for the bed. It came off easily, even if just rolling over. It's too large.
we had a good time ,it was nice having a unit facing the Gulf , pool needs to be warmer
