Area Description

Located just off the coast of Ft. Myers, Florida is a seven mile stretch of sugar white sandy beach that has been ranked as the best family friendly beach in the Southeast United States. Ft. Myers Beach occupies all of skinny Estero Island, and is known as the world's safest beach. It offers miles of white sandy beaches, topaz blue water and relaxing recreational options for everyone. The intersection of San Carlos and Estero Boulevards is an area packed with bars, restaurants, beach apparel shops, souvenir shops and hotels, often called Times Square by the locals. The southern end of Estero Island is much quieter, with ocean-side cottages, quiet motels and lovely beach condos. Activities include golf, swimming, sailing, fishing, kayaking, scuba diving and snorkeling. Ft. Myers Beach also offers nature excursions, wave runner tours, sightseeing and dolphin cruises, as well as all types of boat rentals. Just south of Ft. Myers Beach is Lover's Key State Recreation Area. Access to this beach, which is known for its abundance of shells, is restricted to footpaths or a tractor-pulled tram through a bird-filled forest of mangrove trees.
