The chateau de Montmelian is a 300000sqft (30 hectares) property in the foret de Champagne, close to Fontainebleau and its most beautiful royal castle, where Napoleon said goodbye to his troops befor being exiled to the island of Elba. Its forest (de Fontainebleau) is well known for climbing and walking. Lovely surroundings, on the Loing river: old towns such as Moret the town of many impressionists, such as Sisley, ; Barbizon: also an artist village, home of "l'Ecole de Barbizon" ; Milly la Foret.... Beautiful sites, good food...
A large supermarket 2 miles away, and the village of Samoreau (1 mile away) has an excllent butchershop and delicatessen, a bakery and a small grocery shop.
