Reviews for this vacation home rental in Franklin, North Carolina
A snug house for a memorable vacation
March 23, 2015
A perfect retreat in the mountains next to the Little Tennessee River and close to Franklin, peaceful meadows, Nantahala National Forest, creeks and meanders, water falls, and hiking trails. Tom and Carol are impeccable hosts, always available, helpful and considerate. Their home is fully equipped and wonderfully decorated; a place that will long live in your memory.

This was a nice rental property. There were plenty of beds. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. The shower had plenty of hot water. The house was clean when we arrived. There was a washer and dryer if needed.

As good as vacation renting gets
November 13, 2013
Perfect for 3 couples. 3 bedroom, each with same beds and bathrooms en suite. Everything clean and beautifully appointed. We can't think of anything that needed to be added, it has everything. The renters are a pleasure to deal with! and their price was great. The location has a beautiful view all day long, and the area was quiet when we were there. A rare value in the world of travel. My thanks to the owners for a great stay.
A Gem in Franklin, NC
August 31, 2013
We found this home last year and had an A+ vacation so we returned this year. We plan on continuing to use it for our summer NC visits. The house has everything one could want::it is beautifully decorated, it has privacy and the owners ensure that the house has all of the dishes, dinnerware, towels, etc. that one could possibly need. The rear deck has a great view of the beautiful Smokey Mountains, sunsets and the Little Tennessee River. The owners are just as nice as their home and are very easy to do business with. He is a fly fishing guide who can make a great day out of fishing or lessons; she builds beautiful, and sometimes off-beat, clocks that happily tick away in the house.. Guests will never have far to look to find the time. We stopped counting at about 40 clocks. It's a great place, have a good time.
Worked out Perfectly
July 29, 2013
We were only able to spend a few days in the Mountains of North Carolina and were delighted this was available for those dates. The House was neat, clean and everything worked perfectly. ( unsure about TV as we never turned it on ) The authentic log cabin made our stay more enjoyable but with all the modern conveniences to make it comfortable. There are so..... many beautiful things to see nearby and the cabin was in great position for all of that.
Great place to stay!!

We were looking for a place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. Your home was perfect, offering comfort and affordability. The porch was a great place to enjoy early morning coffee, cool air, birds singing and a fantastic view. The kitchen was well furnished with necessities including spices. The beds were very comfortable. We will definitely be back to visit again. Thank you for sharing your property with us.

Best Relaxing Vacation Ever!!!!
July 17, 2011
This was the a home away from home the view, the bed, the atomsphere and just the whole vacation was more than person could ask for. My husband and I had been very busy having fundraisers for my precious grandaughter Ruby, who will be five years old on August 24th, she was diagnosed with bone marrow failure disease and will need a bone marrow to live. The disease is called Aplastic Anemia, which is rare one out of a million, unfortuately she was one out of a million, we are praying for a complete healing & we know that our God can and will do this for His Glory. We are so thakful for people like Tom and we can't say enough about his lovely home we had so much peace the view was perfect!!! Love ya, Phyllis & Sam--- Lehigh Acres Fl--Hope to visit again next year maybe in the winter so Ruby can see snow (she's never seen & would love to) God Bless

Better than I expected!
May 25, 2011
I pulled up to this house knowing it was a three bedroom, two bath house. What I found was a very well kept modern home. beautifull landspacing and a awesome view from the back deck, showing the awe inspiring mountains and down below the Little Tennesse river. It was so peacefull that I didn't want to leave. Hope to stay here again sometime. So much better than a hotel!

This rental exceeded my expectations and completely won over my beautiful bride. We loved the location, the views, and access to all of our favorite sights and cities. I would love and plan to stay here again. I would highly recommend this rental home. The owners are very accommodating and caring. The house expertly decorated with much of an eclectic touch every for the eye to see. Mornings on the deck overlooking the river was breathtaking. Best vacation home yet.
October 24, 2010
Beautiful home with a wonderful view and a short hop to Franklin. My stay was with 3 motorcycle enthusiast friends to ride the incredible roads of western NC, northern GA, western SC, eastern TN and of course the "tail of the dragon" at Deals Gap. Acess to Tom and Carol's home off the highway is paved, as is the large driveway and apron. A beautiful, comfortable home with satellite TV and WiFi and with very personable owners. We will be back.

What a wonderful time we had. The accomodations exceeded all our expectations. The house was perfect for our needs. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need to enjoy the benefit of cooking our own meals. The house was expertly decorated and was spotless. No question, this will be our destination for future trips to the NC mountains.

Rockslide Tour 2010
July 1, 2010
Despite of the rockslide at the Dragon on US129, we decided to centralize this home base for all our tours after some research. This location also allows us to cover parts of Smoky Mountains, Cherohala Skyway, Blue Ridge Parkway, GA, SC and other mountain roads, which met our criterias. The house is nicely decorated and very comfortable. Our favorite part of the house is actually the deck which overlooking the mountains and the river. It is a nice place to chill out and a perfect place for morning coffee with a misty mounatin view which can be challenging for a point and shoot digital photographer. The owners are nice people. Tom is an avid fly fisherman and Carol is a creative artist. Too bad we only have one week, we wished we could stay longer.

August 17, 2009
What a beautiful home and amazing view! We had a most lovely time in the mountains at our "little cabin in the woods". Everything is at your fingertips as Tom and Carol have put forth the extra effort to assure that all needs and wants have been covered. They are two of the kindest and most gracious people you could ever meet. Our only wish is that we could have stayed longer than a week. We are already planning our return visit for next year. Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation getaway.......and please give Maggie a little chin scratch for me. Jacki, Shirley and Scott
Beautiful Home - Extraordinary Owners
June 23, 2009
The house surpassed our expectations and the owners doubly so. We were two female friends, who wanted to go gem mining & sightseeing in NC. What we found were two owners that we had great conversations with, made us very welcome & gave suggestionson on what to see. Tom is a fisherman who can tell you all about the fishing (next time I will bring my waders). Carol is an incredible artist who has decorated the house with her creations. The house has everything you could imagine. We would like to have taken the beds home with us- they were so comfortable. The sunsets were awesome and the house location was so tranquil. It was in a great location for heading in whatever direction you wanted to go.....and we were on many a backroad with magnificent views. We would go back there again in a heartbeat! I have rented many houses across the US and in Canada, and this by far, was the best!
Waterfalls and Wildflowers
May 4, 2009
Our trip was great, the cabin (really it was a beautiful home) was top of the line with all the amenities of home. The view from the porch couldn't be beat. I have recommended this property to a bunch of my friends and coworkers already.

April 28, 2009
My friend and Eve and I wanted a place to spend some fun time-minus kids, husbands, pets.. or is that redundant? Anyway, our long weekend at Tom's place was wonderful, we got much more than we imagined. We spent our days out canoing, gold-mining, and antique aka junque shopping; evenings were spent in front of the fireplace watching movies or just yakking. Their attention to detail helps make it an "easy" vacation spot, Tom and his wife are great. We want to come back again this year. (Can we keep a clock this time? Just kidding.. !)

Beautiful place to stay!
April 6, 2009
My husband, 2 kids and I just returned from our fun filled week! The house was beautifully decorated, well equipped and very comfortable - a great place to stay! The location was also perfect for us. During our stay, we spent time in Cherokee, Bryson City, Franklin, Highland and even went to Dollywood (2 hrs away) in Pigeon Forge, Tn! We enjoyed GEM mining the most! Tom and Carol made everything (the rental process, etc.) very easy and comfortable for us. We would definitely stay again! Thanks!

What a View
January 7, 2009
Our family loves to go to North Carolina to celebrate Christmas. There is nothing better than the mountain pace for this holiday and your home was absolutely fabulous. Well located for all the activities we were looking for - hiking, window shopping in a fun North Carolina village and relaxing with the best mountain and river views around. Thanks for a great time and a really beautiful and comfortable home for our vacation.

Motorcycle trip "base camp"
October 15, 2008
This house was great!! Beautiful views off of the back porch!! Close to the river; our favorite!! A perfect starting & ending location for riding all the nearby, excellent, curvy roads!! All the necessities (gas, grocery, eateries) are nearby. The paved/asphalt road & driveway were the best!! Perfect for bikes!! The house was well equipped (pots, pans, linens, etc)and beautifully furnished. Also, extremely clean. Tom (owner) was extremely nice, helpful, and accomodating. We couldn't have been happier with our whole experience!!! We all four would highly recommend this house and owner. You won't be disappointed!!!

Great Home with Great Location
September 2, 2008
We were absolutley in love with the place. There was plenty of room and great views. We spent most of our time on the back porch taking in the mountains. The house is centrally located to town and attractions. The Owners are wonderful to deal with and provided great communication to make our arrival a breeze. We will stay here again the next time we come to Franklin.

NC Motorcycle Trip
August 10, 2008
Not only was the home in a perfect location for riding the NC mountains the home itself was perfect. There were 5 of us men with more than ample room to meet all our needs. We are already talking about renting the home next year and perhaps bringing our wifes. I would highly recommend renting the home for anyone looking for a beautiful fully equiped home with a great location and view on Hwy 28 outside of Franklin NC.
July 30, 2008
We stayed at this mountain home the week after the 4th of July. It was beautiful, comfortable, and was located just where we needed it to be! Close to everything but still had some beautiful views. It was very relaxing especially early in the morning, watching the fog roll over the mountains and the sun come up. The owners were very attentive to every need. I would stay here again!!! Tom, thanks for letting us rent your place. We really enjoyed it.

GREAT PLACE TO STAY
July 25, 2008
My family stayed here for a week and it was one of the best places we have stayed at while in the mountains. The house was very spacious and well kept. We played ping pong downstairs after our outings for the day. We had a fantastic view of the river and were within short distance to everything. We would definitely stay again. Thanks for letting us enjoy your home.

Our Franklin Vacation
July 20, 2008
Our entire family really enjoyed this spectaclur vacation home with all the x-tra's. We would definetely recomment this to anyone wanting to have a laid back vacation bonding with your family and friends. We would recommend the "Mason Mines" for gem mining...we had great luck and are having several pieces of jewelry made. Tom and Carol were wonderful to deal with and we felt right at home. We would definately return here for another vaction, perhaps in another season to see the difference in the view. Again, this is a wonderful rental home.

Already planning a trip back
July 8, 2008
Tom and Carol, Thanks so much for sharing your home for vacationers. This was the first time ever renting a house I/O staying in a hotel/motel and I would never ever think of a hotel again. Your home felt like our home because after a long day of gem mining or just playing in the river/fishing..we would be tired and say "lets go home". Also, the view from the deck was wonderful.Doug and I would get up around 5am, pour our coffee and go outside to the fresh cool morning air and just enjoy. It never got too hot or was never humid, and the air smelled so fresh like flowers. The Kids had a great time as well. Doug and I are trying to plan a time to come back in the fall where we could absorb the mountains fall colors and do some more Gem mining....again, thank you for sharing your home. It was nicely decorated, simple, and a pefect feng shui. And this was all so enjoyable even after I sprained my foot three days into the vacation. We will be back... :) Betty, Doug, Brittany & Austin

"Gem" of a Home!
June 28, 2008
Gem Capitol of North Carolina. The house was Great! We felt sooo at home here. We just loved sitting on the deck a.m. and p.m. and looking out at the mountains! While we were here we tried our hand at gem mining (found some small stones to take home), went white water rafting (our First time) and took an overnite trip to Wilmington(saw the Battleship North Carolina... Awesome!) Coming back to the house each nite was just like coming home!! We did have Ping Pong competition every nite ( the youngsters won!) We would definitly stay here again if we're ever in the neighborhood! Tom and Carol were friendly, helpful and very Gracious through the whole renting process! This was our first vacation rental, and if everyone else are like the Hopkins',we will surely rent again!! Thanks so Much!! The Hansen Family

This home is beautiful, beautifully maintained, and has a gorgeous view of the river and the mountains. The owners have been most gracious in all of their dealings with us. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the mornings and evenings gazing at the splender before us! We met our children and grandchildren here and everyone loved the house.

A Vacation worth remembering!
October 22, 2007
The home was beautiful. It was clean and very comfortable. We used the home as our home base and visited National Park, Cherokee, Franklin, Waynesville, Slva and other towns in the area. We enjoyed Sunday lunch at the Jarett House in Slva, golf at the Franklin Golf Club and the new arrivals in the National Park. Elk. We saw about 25 head. There were also 2 deer sited at the house. We had a great time and would not hesitate to go back and stay in the house.

This was a great home. Nice furnishings, especially in the kitchen. Located close enough to local attractions, but out of the way enough for privacy. I would definately recommend it.
