What a great place!

September 10, 2014

After spending a last week of August we came back home relaxed and refreshed. The 3 bedroom cottage has all amenities to make our forest and lakes vacation comfortable and a pleasantly rustic... Additional pleasures – great mushroom hunting after the rain!!

Owner's reply:

It was wonderful sharing the Wild Winds with you--the forest, the lakes--and I know how much you loved the mushrooms!

Week with Grandchildren

July 17, 2014

Rented the HoneyMoon cottage. Decent place for the price. Good location, not to far from The Mac Bridge, and was close to town. Very back to nature. Swimming not so good. Many leaches found in main lake. Cabin needs updating in kitchen with more pots and pans and such. Kitchen could use a new counter top. Good fishing for the grandkids, small catfish, lots caught, the kids were happy. Boats were fun also. Great sunsets and camp fires on the beach, nice sunsets.

Owner's reply:

Glad you had so much fun fishing! Catch-and-release has been great this summer, but the perch and bluegill have been on the small side, so we won't guarantee you'll catch your dinner! Swimming is highly recommended at the Ponds (rather than Wequas Lake). A wonderful, refreshing deep-water swim in our spring-fed private lake nestled in the woods--dock and swimming ladder provided. The new kitchen countertop is scheduled for fall. Additional kitchenware is always available on request.

Lovely Summer Getaway
This was our first time visiting Michigan and we chose to stay in a cabin so that we could get that feeling of camping with comfort and Wild Winds Honeymoon Cottage filled the bill. With access to all the amenities of this property i.e.canoes, rowboats, paddle boats, hiking trails, barbecues, fire pit, a private beach, a real swimming hole and the worlds best drinking water there is not much not to rave about! We spent a lovely week enjoying it all. You can't beat the location with easy access to all surrounding tourist areas. The cabin is supplied with everything you need for a great getaway and it is dog friendly! We look forward to our next stay at Wild Winds. Thanks Rokko!

Wild winds paradise
My wife and I spent our honeymoon here and we had a great up north experience! We had good communication with Rokko and the cabin was ready when we arrived. The location was amazing, deep in the forest yet close to the town of Gaylord. Rokko had pretty much everything you would need in the cabin including washer and dryer. We also brought our two dogs who had a good time walking the trails on the property. The ponds were awesome! We had a great time and would highly recommend Wild Winds.

Off the Grid
Enjoyed this place very much. It is exactly as described. It is in the middle of no where, but less than 10 minutes away from major shopping and the west side of town. Wequas Lake is very nice and beautiful in the morning. The trails that surround the property are what we enjoyed the most. Pet friendly!!! There is another cabin as well that is available for rent, so if you have a larger party this property can accommodate. Highly recommend!!

A Fantastic and Unique Summer Getaway
The Honeymoon Cabin, and the entire Wild Winds vacation area, is a wonderful way to take a step out of the every day stresses of life and into peaceful serenity. A small group of friends and I rented the cabin for 7 nights this past week, and we could not have possibly been more satisfied.
To start, the listing is completely accurate, aside from the fact that it does no justice for how beautiful this location is. And that really is it, location, location, location, this spot needs to be seen in person to truly understand how great it is.
Firstly, the cabin we stayed in, "The Honeymoon Cabin", was neat, clean, and surprisingly larger than we expected. This size was of course much to our delight, for the price of rent, there is really no going wrong with this cabin. The bathroom and kitchen was stocked with the necessary dishes and utensils, the bathroom was full of clean and folded towels, and the bedrooms were each neat and incredibly comfortable. All in all the cabin was cozy, and perfectly livable, no complaints from our end at all.
The next big part of the stay was the lake, which is right next to the cabins. A small stone stairway leads down to the beach and dock. Here you'll find multiple boats, chairs, and a fire pit. Lake Wequas itself is large and peaceful. There is no wake, and there was never more than 1-2 other boats on the water while we were out. The canoes are extremely fun, and for those who don't feel like rowing, there is a quality 3 seated paddle boat also docked on the shore. Swimming is great right off the beach, me and my group spent a fair amount of time wading in the water and playing frisbee. Sunsets over this lake are absolutely breathtaking. So if you're looking for site with a clean, swimmable, boatable, and beautiful lake, this is a great bet.
The suite of cabins is surrounded by acres of forested land, easily explored on the well kept hiking trails. The forest is speckled with different sorts of wildlife and is more peaceful and secluded than you can imagine. A short hike through the woods will lead you to what is, arguably, the most incredible location on the site, the ponds. Secluded, cool, and just awesome to look at, I personally have never been somewhere as special as the ponds. Swimming, boating, fishing, or just relaxing on the dock, any amount of time here, is time well spent.
Moral of the story, if you're looking for a cabin in northern Michigan, stop looking! I drove all the way from Chicago, its worth it.

Friends get together
My friends and I rented this cabin for the weekend so we all could have a vacation and spend some time together. Rokko was very nice to welcome us into his property and was very nice and had accommodated us well. We had a blast sitting out by the lake fishing and spending time on the paddle boat on the lake. We couldn't ask for a better weekend, time well spent together and we all very much enjoyed the cabin we stayed in.

Wild Winds Stay
I just recently rented this cabin for 4 days. It was the best vacation we have been on in awhile. It was very relaxing and fun. We had friends and family join us and put up a few tents. We were able to bring our dog, which she absolutely loved being outside all the time. The fishing was great, the kids would cast out and had a fish with in seconds. We told ghost stories done by the fire on the beach at night, then played hide and seek in the woods after in the dark:) It was the best. We had brought up our quads and the trails were amazing. The whole stay was just great and we really look forward to staying again next summer. The only thing I didn't realize was that there were other cabins right near us, but no one was there during our stay, so it was private, just what we wanted!!

Location, location, location
The Wild Winds is a beautiful place to stay that is peaceful and quiet. It is centrally located in northern Michigan, so many sight seeing destinations are accessible at reasonable distances.
The property is remote enough to feel like you've escaped the fast-paced world around you, but still close to Gaylord so that you have access to all sorts of stores, restaurants and anything else you may need.
The cabin was comfortable and accommodating. Our kids had a great time enjoying the lake and exploring the wooded areas. We wished that we had more time to spend there.
We will definitely keep this place in mind for future visits! Rokko was a great host and we thank him for sharing his corner of paradise.

A perfect rustic getaway
This cabin was an awesome find. We were looking for an "out of the way" but not too out of the way place to vacation. This property hits each note precisely. You have the feeling of the rustic cabin in an incredible pine forest. We didn't have cell service on the property for one second (which is exactly what we were looking for). Yet with this property essentially being at the intersection of I-75 and M-32 you have access to all of the great northern Michigan adventures as easy to reach day trips. It also is just a quick drive in to Gaylord which has everything you could want as far as groceries and supplies.
The cabin is well set up. Plenty of space to move around in and very comfortable. It is stocked with every plate, glass, small appliance, and utensil you might need. And the beds are very comfortable. All of this wrapped in an incredible 60 acre forested property you can explore. Living in the suburbs you almost forget what real quiet actually sounds like. This place will give you a quick reminder. Wonderful trails, a couple of lakes to canoe in, and the canoes available to do it. Lot's of small animals and birds. And this was definitely a dog paradise. Our dog, along with us, loved every moment's adventure.
If you are looking for a a great getaway adventure to a place that will really give you the opportunity to unwind and explore the variety that is northern Michigan, this is it. We would definitely return here.

Surely a tranquil retreat.
The cabin was simply amazing. Our family enjoyed fishing, boating, hiking, Watching the amazing sunsets, Lighting campfires, Amazing eagles that we seen a few ponds that were around the cabin. The cabin was so clean and relaxing. The king size beds and also the queen-size beds where pillow top and made for a peaceful night sleep. We were able to fish, trail walk, see a old big turtle, catch a lot of catfish even though they were baby size it still made a great activity.

A very serene getaway!
The cabin was very attractive for our family. This was our second stay and we enjoyed it even more than the first! The cabin is breathtaking and very spacious. The beds are very comfortable which was very important to our family and there is plenty of drawer and closet space. It has all the amenities you could need, washer and dryer, toaster, microwave, it even has things such as a pizza cutter and wine glasses!
The cabin is surrounded by beautiful pine trees, a few large ponds and gorgeous lake views. By the lake and ponds there are docks, several small paddle boats and canoes. It is very private and peaceful! We had bonfires every night and didn't have to buy any wood, it was all provided for us by Rokko.
The wildlife is astonishing! We caught fish, frogs, a turtle and a snake. There are beavers at the ponds and we did sight an eagle in the woods along with chipmunks.
If you love and respect nature, this is the place for you!

this IS Up North MIchigan!
we met our kids/grandkids here and everyone loved the rustic cabin and peace and quiet. The woods is next to cabin which made our well behaved dog very happy as she could walk and walk and walk! Kids enjoyed paddleboats/canoes/row boat. Also swimming in private pond with a dock. Bedrooms very comfortable, cabin clean. Our host, Rokko, very friendly and showed us the trails and swimming areas. He was onsite, but not intrusive. Bond fire by lake was a hit with kids, and our private front yard between cabin and lake was great for visiting. The gazebo great spot to read and enjoy coffee or a cocktail. If you want peace and quiet(no noisy boats/jetskis here), highly recommended.
Close to Otsego Lake State Park which has very nice beach and picnic areas.
