Situated in the heart of the French countryside of the Charentes Maritime region, this historic and recently renovated farmhouse will give you a great taste of French country life. Surrounded by fields of sunflowers and vineyards, Chez Tantin is perfect for those who want to take a break from hectic life and nestle into the delights of total relaxation and gourmet adventures.

Chez Tantin is a 350-year old Charentais farmhouse constructed from regional stone with a welcoming, open interior. Inside the spacious 2,500 SF home, you will find all the modern conveniences along with vintage charm: exposed timbers, limestone floors, an amazing kitchen, mezzanine, dual fireplaces, inviting bedrooms, and a soaking tub where you can relax your afternoon away.

This non-smoking home is ideal for two to four couples or a group of friends ready to take in country living. The spacious bedrooms are furnished with two queen beds each. Additional single beds allow this spacious house to accommodate up to eight people comfortably.

La Cuisine
The airy and charming kitchen has a large stainless gas stove, a spacious preparation island, and many amenities to cook your awe inspired meals. The heart of the home is centered on the 12-foot long hand-hewn antique oak table where you can enjoy the fruits of the region and memorable conversation with friends and family.

Le Jardin
The garden offers a peaceful place where you can take in the morning with a nice cup of café au lait. A large outdoor table seats ten comfortably where you can hear the low trickle of water in the historic well and dine next to medieval troughs where bulbs bloom in the spring.

Dine under the stars with a table full of candles and lively conversation, or enjoy a sip of the local aperitif, Pineau de Charentes, in the night air before bed.

Les Chambres
Upstairs you will find two private and serene bedrooms where you can slip away into relaxation and enjoy a good book from our library. Each bedroom is furnished with two queen size beds, high quality linens and feather duvets. Exposed heavy timbres make the rooms cozy with old world charm.

Les Bains
Two charismatic bathrooms decorated with tumbled marble, fabulous fixtures, and fluffy towels offer a perfect way to start your day. One special amenity is our large two-person claw foot soaker tub. Add your favorite bath salts, sip a glass of wine, and your cares will float away.

Area Description

Where in France?
Our home is located near the village of Gémozac in the Charentes Maritime region (17), also known as Poitou Charentes. On the village outskirts is a large supermarket (SuperU), two weekly street markets, 3 patisseries, 2 chemists, doctors, dentist, etc., is just 5 minutes away.

Walk the country road to the village of Gemozac (17260) for warm baguettes & pastries, or take a short drive to the local outdoor markets for an extraordinary selection of fresh seafood, regional cheeses, and beautiful organic fruits and vegetables.

Nearby you will find antique shopping, charming restaurants, the famous vineyards of St. Emilion, and vestiges of Roman ruins, including a well-preserved arena in the charming town of Saintes. The wide beaches of St. Georges de Didonne and Royan are a short drive away, as are the cellars of Cognac. Or relax and enjoy country living right at home where you can fall into a book in one of the comfy feather beds.

Sandy beaches go from our "local" Meschers-sur-Gironde and Saint-Georges-de-Didonne (20 minutes), and continue on and on, both south and north of Royan.

Our nearest town is Saintes (20 min) - one of the world's beautiful small cities. Royan(30 min), Cognac(40 min), La Palmyre(40 min), La Rochelle(60 min), Bordeaux(60 min) and Arcachon(90min).

You can go Pineau de Charentes Tasting all around which is the local apperitif only made in that region. There is a labyrinth and also Futurescope near by for adventure seekers.
