Description of the Georgetown vacation home rental

Architect designed stone and clapboard house on four acres of woodland. There is a dock where the small boats are kept, on the river or the mud flats depending on the tide. The house is heated by electricity or woodstove. The great room is for dining and reading and is big enough for rainy day activities. The kitchen is behind a fireslate counter and there is a screened porch for fisherman viewing and cocktail hours.

A two-bed guest room on the first floor is next to a full bath and laundry room. Upstairs is the master bedroom with a double bed and two desks, a large walk-in closet and another full bath with separate shower.

Outside the kitchen a deck leads to the garage-guest house with two double bed bedrooms and a sleeping porch with two cots. There is a full bath upstairs and a small kitchen downstairs. The garage has summer beach toys stored along with a small motor and oars for the row boat, paddles for the canoe and sails for the 12 foot sailboat.

Area Information

Georgetown has a well-run Country Store 3 miles down the road, an elegant farm market selling fresh vegetables, cheese and wine, and has two marvelous restaurants, The Osprey and The Meetinghouse. Reid State Park is 7 miles away with a fantastic beach between the mouths of the Kennebec and Sheepscot rivers. Just beyond the cut-off to Reid State Park is the tiny town of Five Islands with Georgetown's working dock with our Local Lobster Shack and a fine ice cream window. Views of the Maine Coast cap the many roads and bless the walks possible all over the island.

Off Island are the Maine Maritime Museum, the shops, old captains'houses and the Bath Iron Works in Bath. The antique shops of Wisscasset and Salt Water Farm Museums of Damarascotta and other sea side towns are north on route one. To the south are movies and Bowdoin's Music programs and Museum. Bigger city delights are in Portland, only 50 minutes away.

Great house. Very secluded. I stayed here with my husband , sister in law & my 2 dogs. My daughter & her family were only able to come for 2 nights. I found it was too much house for just the 3 of us. I wish we had a larger crowd because I felt that we were wasting the cottage. . Location is convienant to Reid state park, Bath and 45 min to Boothbay.

Beautiful place, quite road in the woods. Most important--pet friendly. And the dogs loved the water and mud. Good places to eat near by. Short trip to Bath for anything you need. Be sure to track the tides if you plan to be on the water. We would definitely return.
