Description of the Gettysburg vacation home rental

We invite you to stay in our comfortably and tastefully decorated 1840 four-bedroom PA German Farmhouse and cozy Smokehouse Guest Cottage with fireplace and loft nestled in the middle of 83 acres of rolling Pennsylvania countryside. The Pennsylvania Farmhouse is a simple log frame structure with white German siding with two front doors, typical architecture for the mid-1800's. The cottage, just steps away from the farmhouse, has a large central stone fireplace and was used as a smokehouse and summer kitchen in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The property has a beautifully fenced in-ground pool, Pennsylvania bank barn, 3-car garage, lovely views, and privacy. Our farmhouse is registered as a Civil War Building (built prior to 1863) and has received recognition from Historic Gettysburg-Adams County, Inc. as a home restored to its original 1840's era. World-wide travelers will find many French and European touches, including original art, classic and contemporary books, and handmade pottery in both the farmhouse and cottage.

Sleeping Accommodations:

PA German Farmhouse (sleeps up to 8): Our beautifully simple and classicly historic PA German farmhouse has four bedrooms on the second floor, three with a double bed and one with two single beds. All are furnished with antique dressers, desks, and lovely bed linens.

Pre-Civil War-era Smokehouse Guest Cottage (sleeps 2-4): This cozy country cottage has one loft-style bedroom with double bed on the second floor and a comfortable pull-out sofa bed (double bed, which sleeps 2) in the living room. The huge fireplace in the center of the cottage was once used by early farmers to smoke meats. It was later used as a summer kitchen to cook and can fruits and vegetables that were grown on the property.

Area Description

Situated in beautiful Adams County, we are located approximately three miles from the historic colonial town of East Berlin, PA (population: 1,400), founded by Pennsylvania Germans in 1764 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Our farm is an excellent base for relaxation and exploration of nearby Gettysburg (25 minutes), Hershey (45 minutes), Lancaster's PA Dutch Country (less than 1 hour), Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York.

Small Weddings welcome (50 people or less). We would be glad to give recommendations for tent rental, caterers, photographers, and videographers.

Please consider a lovely vacation in October or November, months which are absolutely beautiful at our farm! Our property is perfect for family reunions, friends' get-togethers, and girlfriend getaways.

$300/night; $1700/week (3 night minimum)

Pre-Civil War-era Smokehouse Guest Cottage (sleeps 2-4) available to rent from Nov. to April for $130/night or $780/week (7th night free) (3 night minimum). Perfect for a romantic getaway.
Farmhouse (sleeps 6-8) available to rent from Nov. to April for $225/night or $1350/week (7th night free) (3 night minimum).

Other Vacation Rental Amenities

We provide 5 bicycles for your enjoyment to explore country roads in the area. Also, we have croquet, volleyball, and lots of yard games for families. For the pool, we supply pool toys and "noodles" as well as beach towels for everyone. We have two picnic tables, a Weber Charcoal grill, large yard, front porch with porch swing and rocking chairs, wildlife, peace and quiet, views of rolling fields of corn and milo. Nearby town of New Oxford is known as the Antique Capital of Southcentral PA - beautiful Victorian homes and antique shops. Hot air balloon rides available nearby. Fine dining at Sidney in East Berlin and The Sheppard Mansion in Hanover. A favorite spot - The Hauser Estate Winery near Biglerville for wine tasting. Winter skiing at Ski Roundtop, Ski Liberty, and Whitetail.

Required Stay: 3 night minimum
Lodging Tax: 6% PA tax & 3% Adams County tax
Deposits: We ask for a 50% deposit when you make the reservation, with the balance due 30 days prior to arrival. Refundable security deposit is $250. NOTE FOLLOWING RATES for Summer 2010: $385/night...$2,310/week May 2010 - Oct. 31, 2010 (3 night minimum)

We loved this beautiful property! There were 10 people in our group riding six motorcycles. We had a great time in the area. The property provided a relaxing and enjoyable weekend for all. It was everything as advertized and more! The accomodations were perfect! The pool was wondeful!! Everything you could imagine was provided. We hope to return again next year for sure!

We loved this property. The farmhouse and little cottage are just adorable. The owner is clearly devoted to this place. The yard and swimming pool are beautiful. There is so much to see and do in Gettysburg, which is only about 15 minutes away. This place is geared toward a family, but would also be suitable for lots of couples. The owners have already thought of everything, all you need to do is pack your bags. We give this rental a solid 10!
