Other Vacation Rental Amenities
With our home's open floor plan, you can cook in the kitchen while laughing with friends in the living room, enjoying the gas fire, or looking at the boats on the lake. There is also a more private nook to one end of the enclosed porch with a nice view of the lake and where you can get away from the main living area to relax with a good book or for a quiet conversation without having to go outside or retreat to a bedroom.

To enjoy the sun, step out the sliding doors to relax on one of two furnished decks that are adjacent to the water. The decks are in sun for most of the day, but both have shade you can enjoy if you feel the need.

When you are ready for a swim, gradually wade into the water from the deck or take a plunge off the end of the dock. The water is clear, and right near the shore the bottom is sandy and slopes gently. If you'd rather play in the sand, there is a shared access beach that sits adjacent to the property.

The lake is also a great place to fish, boat, and waterski. I have a canoe that you can use without charge. Two kayaks are also usually available to rent as long as I have advance notice, but feel free to bring your own boat and tie it to the dock. You can easily launch a canoe, kayak, or small sailboat from our property or from the adjacent beach. There is also a boat launch at the campground on East Caroga Lake for larger boats. A connecting channel lets you explore West Caroga Lake if you are interested.

Nearby you will also find golf, hiking, nature trails, historic sites, a cider mill, and if you want to travel a bit further (~18 miles), there is a zoo. There is a place to get ice cream down the road across from Sherman's which is around the corner on West Caroga Lake. There are also a number of good restaurants in the area.

Wonderful getaway

August 28, 2014

What a great place! The home is right on the water. It's a perfect place to relax and unwind, whether you are kayaking, hiking, or toasting marshmallows under the stars. This home was the perfect size for four of us, and is immaculate. When your 16 year old says that this was one of her favorite vacations, you know it's something special. We would definitely stay again.

Owner's reply:

Thanks Kim. We're glad you had a good time.

Property everything as described. Enjoyed fishing on the lake. Quiet area with skeet shooting about 30 miles away. Looking to relax? Rent here!

David Hjelmar

Owner's reply:

I haven't been there, but there is skeet at the Pine Tree Rifle Club in Johnstown (~9 miles from the lake).

Caroga Lake home

August 12, 2014

My brother and I with our wives rented this home on East Caroga Lake. The home was very clean with many updates. We were right on the lake with the use of a canoe which we did use. We had a great week as the weather was great and the home was great. We would rent this home again

David Hjelmar

Owner's reply:

Glad you enjoyed your stay. We'd love to have you stay with us again next year.

A great Adirondack stay

July 9, 2014

We had a great time in Moose Cabin at Camp Garoga. I didn't believe that the cabin would be as nice as it appeared in the pictures on line - but it definitely was. Very cozy and clean and really reflected the Adirondack feel. It was a little closer to the busy main road than we would have liked, but the quaintness of the cabin and privacy of the surrounding property made up for it. You can step out the door and go for a walk in the woods, roast marshmallows in the private fire ring, or take a nap in the hammock. Next time we'd bring some friends and rent out both sides of the camp for a nice group get away.

David Hjelmar

Owner's reply:

I'm not sure how this response got posted, but it is not for our home. Ours is a single family home on Caroga Lake. This review is for what sounds like a split cabin (rent one or both sides?) called Moose Cabin at Camp Garoga.

Awesome rental

August 20, 2012

This has by far been one of the best rentals we have stayed in. Everything is just as pictured. The water is really right there when you step out on the deck and very peaceful. House was very, very clean and had all the amenities we needed for the week. We had a fire every night, toasted marshmallows and just enjoyed the relaxation. The area also has lots to offer, Cooperstown and Saratoga are about a 45 minute ride but well worth it. We would definitely return. Dave and Elsa have a great place on Lake Caraga and we were happy they shared that with us!

Owner's reply:

And thank you for taking care of our home during your stay.

Caroga Lake Home

August 21, 2011

This home is great. It is truly "waterfront". Very peacful area. Gloversville and Johnstown provide access to all types of services if needed. We had a great time and would stay again.

David Hjelmar

Owner's reply:

We look forward to having you stay with us again.
