Paradise

October 11, 2012

We had the pleasure to stay over the Columbus Day weekend at the cottage and have nothing but positive things to say about the entire experience. First, the property is situated on a peaceful and beautiful piece of land that looks directly out onto the water, wildlife, and canvas of colorful foliage. Second, the inside is cozy and the burning stove in the living room was something to look forward to sitting in front of after a day hiking in Acadia National Park. Third, the location on Schoodic point is very convenient to get between the two park entrances and into town for groceries, etc. Fourth, the property is more than fairly priced for all of its amenities and conveniences, views and comforts. Lastly, Anne the owner is a caring resident of the community who has a deep love for both the property and the region. She has kindly stocked the cottage with information about the area and its people; she made us feel extremely welcome as first time visitors to Maine. We appreciated that she helped us plan our activities in the park. It really was nothing less than one of the best weekends we have had in New England and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable retreat settled in a beautiful community in the heart of one of America's most beautiful national parks. quiet, peaceful, reflective stay

August 10, 2012

Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised. The cottage is set at the edge of Jones Pond (which is really a lake)and it is quite beautiful and serene. The inside of the cabin gave us more pleasant surprises and comfort! My kids immediately found the room with twin beds and began jumping back and forth! For me, I was amazed at all the nice furnishings and beautiful touches of home that fill this cottage. The kitchen and pantry have all that you could want and more. With limited space, Anne has cleverly tucked all that is needed into the spaces of this cottage. The queen bed in my room was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on- loved that! and the living room was a favorite spot to listen to our book on tape or watch one of Anne's old movies.(Nothing really for the kids except Gulliver's travels, so bring your own) The little touches that this place affords make it seem like this is home. You will enjoy reading about the history of this place, canoeing and exploring the pond and travelling to nearby Winter Harbor and Schoodic Point. We also very much enjoyed getting fresh lobster at Tracy's (7 min. away) and bringing it back to the pond to cook and enjoy. If you enjoy rustic simplicity, you will like this place. It is compact, but comfortable, and has many things to do within a short distance from the cabin. I even was able to see the pond's resident eagle fishing and then perching in his tree. Anne was a great host and helped to point out the many fine features of this area. The only drawback for me was the distance we had to drive to get to the main part of Acadia Park. It does take an hour to get over to the Bar Harbour and Acadia Park area, but the trip is well worth it because of the scenic drive. If the hour drive is a concern, Schoodic Point is a short trip away and is also part of Acadia Park. It is equally breathtaking and was favored by my kids. (exploring the expanse of granite bouldered shoreline was awesome- fantastic for energetic boys and nature loving girls) If down home, simple comfort is what you desire, you will not be disappointed if you rent at Tugwassa. The Brothers family,

Cozy, Quaint Cottage on Jones Pond

July 2, 2012

My week long stay in Poet’s Cottage was more than I hoped for. Anne went above and beyond to make my stay at her unique camp comfortable. Being a photographer I am always looking for a photo. The view on the pond was forever changing always creating endless photo opportunities. Some days I savored the peacefulness and solitude there at and on Jones Pond, while other days I ventured out exploring the many surrounding Harbors and visiting both Schoodic and Mount Desert Island Acadia National Parks. I had a very comfortable vacation at “Tugwassa" On Jones Pond- poet's cottage and will look forward to a possible return visit. Thank you Anne O.

Owner's reply:

I'm so glad that you had great adventures, in spite of the off and on rain all week. I throughly enjoyed our paddle on the pond your last evening, and thank you for spending some of your precious time with me. I do hope you'll come back again, as I feel I have made a new friend.

Stunning view

May 23, 2012

The early morning mist levitates over Jones pond while the resident hummingbird pops by to say hello...This camp's best assets are the stunning views of the Pond on one side and the outlet to the ocean on the other. Other great amenities include the full kitchen, laundry, and library. Anne O. is a great host whose compelling family history is depicted in the poetry and artwork in each corner. I spent time studying all the hand-carved pieces over the doorways as well as the very unique 1922 hand-painted cupboard. This cabin is full of charm, and we would love to visit again in the future.

It's a nice cottage

December 26, 2011

It's nice and fully equipped cottage which is 40 min drive away from acadia national park. We got there in winter though, we did have a good time there.

Anne D O.

Owner's reply:

Now that there is snow on the ground, x-c skiing, snow shoeing and winter hiking have opened up, both locally & in the national park on groomed trails. Once the ponds & lakes freeze over (if we ever stop this see-saw weather!), there will be ice fishing out the back door and on most local area ponds & lakes & on Mt Desert Island.

My sisters and I so enjoyed the relaxing week we spent at this charming cottage, located on a quiet cove of Jones Pond. The pond is great setting for activities such as kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and bird watching. Beautiful Schoodic Peninsula (Acadia National Park) is nearby. Lots of fun times and memories!

Beautiful pond, lovely camp

July 1, 2011

I couldn't have been more impressed with the ever changing view of Jones Pond. Sometimes it was mirror smooth with a pair of loons making ripples, other times the surface was wind ruffled and forbidding. The camp is very clean and old fashioned in a really nice, relaxing way. It's easy to forget the outside world tucked away in the woods. I'll certainly stay there again, when I get the chance.

Down East Private Stay

June 30, 2011

Best kept secret in Maine! I loved staying in this beautiful, fully furnished, cabin. It was totally private. Everywhere one turned you could feel and see signatures of a true poet. I would recommend this cabin to anyone who would like a private back to nature feel, without actually being back to nature. The pond is absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed eating my cereal every morning watching the pond. To me, this was the highlight of the day.
