Great time in Maine
March 11, 2013
If you are looking for the quintessential Maine experience; look no further than Schoodic house. To say the scenery here is beautiful is an understatement. The crashing surf, rocky coastline and wildlife (we saw an eagle) are exactly what you would expect in Maine. The house itself was perfectly appointed and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Everything was so cozy; we were happy to stay home on a misty day and just relax with a good book. The area around Schoodic is also picturesque with lots of cute shops, cafés and great restaurants. We had a delicious dinner at Croker House. Also, be sure to spend a day in Bar Harbor. If you want outdoor activities Acadia National Park is right at your doorstep. All in all, it was a wonderful trip and we hated to see it end. Can’t wait to come back.

Vacation for body and soul
July 11, 2012
My family and I stayed at Schoodic House to celebrate my 60th birthday. This was the quintessential "heaven on earth". I arrived physically and emotionally exhausted and left renewed and refreshed. You arrive at this beautiful home from a secluded drive. The first impression is awesome! You are just yards from the bay and the rocky coast of Maine. There are stairs leading down to the rocky beach and you can sit there for hours watching the tide ebb and flow, the ducks feed under water, the seals sunbathing, the lobster boats pulling up their traps, and the waves crash near your feet. There is a hammock in the yard perfect for afternoon naps. The house has a wrap-around deck complete with chairs and picnic table. Grill is under the deck. Inside the house is charming with many old trunks, pillows, blankets, comfortable furniture and all necessities for housekeeping and cooking (on a small scale). The bedrooms are amazing. Each room is decorated in a different motif and each bed is a different size. All are comfortable. LInens were high-end and absurdly cozy!! The weather is perfect, but prepare for surprises. In the course of a day, you can have sun, showers, fog, mist, breeze or storm. Watching the bay and hearing the waves under all those conditions is an experience not to be missed. TV channels are few and there is no internet; however, there is an excellent library of books, puzzles, games and activities provided. If internet is needed, there is a library at the end of the road with 24/7 service. I sat in the parking lot and checked email. If you need more time and want to be comfortable, a short ride into Winter Harbor takes you to the visitor center. Roxanne is the owner and bakes all her own goodies. YUM!!! Lots of fudge, scones, biscuits, coffee cakes and cookies. You can also get coffee, iced or hot, and soup and sandwich for lunch, ALL home made. The IGA is 5 minutes from the house. Bar Harbor is about 45. Ellsworth is 20 minutes. Don't miss Acadia!!! Schoodic Point is 5 minutes down the road. Mr. and Mrs. Zito were gracious hosts. There was even a Happy Birthday sign hung when I arrived. It was an experience I will never forget, especially the full moon over the bay!!!! Go!! Enjoy!! You will never be the same!

Wonderful Vacation Home
September 25, 2011
Just returned from the Schoodic house..It was perfect for us..Our party of eight was more than comfortable in the main home and apartment..Good location (not for small children) quiet and peaceful neighborhood. The part of Acadia park (Schoodic) was the best part of it .It is beautiful in just miles down the road..we enjoyed two days there just playing and taking pictures. The rest of the trip was spent in Bar Harbor..just a short drive and worth every moment..as for the home..The Zito's have everything you will need already there.perfect for the larger groups and a very comforable home..I would sugguest a First Aid Kit be added though..after 8:00 there's no stores close that stock any of that kind of ware..Other than that... Our trip was wonderful..and will be returning next year..

Lovely place to stay
September 1, 2011
We just wanted to thank you for sharing your beautiful home with my family and me. We found your home spacious and comfortable and very elegant. We were welcomed with lovely bottle of wine in front of door. The inside house was beautiful, as was the spectacular view of outside bay area. My daughter loved your book collection and could have stayed a year to read! I have recommended your place to everyone we tell our experience to. Many thanks for allowing us the opportunity to see Maine with such awesome accommodation.

Wonderful vacation place
July 19, 2011
My friends and I stayed recently at John's vacation house. We loved everything about it. Very nice surroundings, gorgeous view of the ocean, quiet and peaceful. The house itself is very cozy, clean, nicely decorated and supplied with all you need from kitchen items to bedding and towels. The owner, John Zito, was very nice and easy to correspond with. I highly recommend this place and would come back again, if I go to that area again. Dessy

Very quiet place at the end of a long private road; wonderful sound of the crashing waves at night; lovely deck with ocean view; full kitchen and all amenities. For those seeking quiet and scenery. (We saw two eagles, also.) Very responsive owner, no problems.

This is the perfect house is you're looking for a beautiful quite retreat that offers an amazing view and sound of the ocean water. The house is very spacious and is truly a home away from home. The kitchen has modern appliances and for those looking to get a little bit of TV or news at night, there's a wonderful LCD TV fully connected to Cable/Satellite. The bedrooms are charming and you can't beat the soothing sound of the ocean waters at night when it's time to dream...I loved this house and its charm. It's private yet convient enought to be near everything you want to see and experience. It's minutes away from the schoodic penninsula, nearby restaurants and shops and only an hour away from the Bar Harbour area. The owners are always available for suggestions and directions to nearby attractions. We had a fantastic time! Loved it!

Great Maine getaway
September 1, 2009
We found the property to be comfortable, clean and well appointed. The property features a huge deck on the back of the house which overlooks the crashing surf.During our stay we enjoyed regular visits from 3 local foxes, several chipmunks, 3 sea otters, an osprey and a porcupine. The owners loaned us bikes which we rode through the Schoodic Peninsula Park, it was awesome. The property is ideally situated between Acadia National Park and Wild Blueberry Land which we highly recommend if you like pies that bring their A game. In nearby Birch Harbor there is also a place to rent Kayaks. We found the owner John to be very helpful in answering questions about the area and the property.

Outstanding rental property
August 15, 2009
Great communication with owners. Upscale, comfortable furnishings in this house with lots of space and amenities. Very clean and great for a family. Just a few steps to the ocean and crashing waves. Two eagles, a fox and chipmunks served as entertainment. Quiet retreat on the oversized back deck (facing the ocean) with all the comforts of home. Cool breezes at night with sounds of incoming tides. Close to Acadia National Park on Schoodic Point where there are picnic areas, views of lighthouses, mountains and lots of open ocean with boat traffic; the quieter side of Bar Harbor away from the crowds of tourists but easily accessible by boat/ferry or an hours drive. Loved this property ~~~~~
