Green Valley, AZ Travel Tips

Sitting just west of the Santa Cruz River and about 20 miles from Tucson, Green Valley is an oasis of Arizona desert landscapes. Plus, it’s easy to reach. For families, Green Valley rentals are a great way to take in the small-town charm and majestic natural beauty. Many comfortable homes for rent in Green Valley, AZ, can be found online with Vacation Home Rentals. Spend your time exploring local culture or take in the breathtaking desert scenery. Either way, there’s something in Green Valley to appeal to visitors of all ages. Plus, the area is an ideal base for exploring southwest Arizona’s unique landscapes. For a satisfying family trip, mix up the pace with varied local activities so everyone gets some time at their favorite attractions.
Select among local Green Valley, Arizona, rentals listed at Vacation Home Rentals and you can reduce your accommodation costs. That way, you can dedicate more of your budget to the area’s many family-friendly attractions. Right in town, the Hacienda de la Canoa is a site of historical and cultural interest. The hacienda itself is a protected historic landmark. Visiting families can also wander around the park grounds and view wildlife. For the kids, choose among the hacienda’s regular environmental education programs.
Just outside Green Valley, the Arizona Cactus Ranch is a popular destination for nature-lovers and health food enthusiasts. The annual harvest of prickly pear cacti fruit takes place in August and September. Visitors are welcome to come directly to the ranch to stock up on bottles of cactus juice or simply to see the plants up close.
Just about 25 miles southwest of Green Valley, you can find the village of Arivaca. It is also home to the oldest schoolhouse in the state and some of the most spectacular high desert landscapes in the country. Brochures for self-guided tours are available at local shops.
For Active Travelers
Green Valley, AZ, rentals also make a great option for golfing holidays. Right in town, several of the biggest destinations are golf and country clubs. At Canoa Ranch Golf Club, the golfers in the family can hit the greens while the rest of the bunch enjoy the on-site restaurant or take a lesson with the club pros. San Ignacio Golf Course is a par-71 course, and the 3,000-foot elevation offers a refreshingly cooler climate than closer to central Tucson.
For hiking, Madera Canyon is within a half-hour drive of downtown Green Valley. The canyon is notable among birders as one of the foremost destinations nationwide, with more than 256 species documented, including 15 species of hummingbirds.
Also within an hour’s drive, Pena Blanca Lake is popular among Green Valley locals for fishing, boating, and hunting around its perimeter.
There’s no single right time to visit Green Valley, AZ. By timing your trip right, though, you can take advantage of local events and perhaps save some money on your rental property, too. The summers in Green Valley can be exceptionally hot, driving down the price of Green Valley rentals. However, such extreme temperatures are too much for many visitors. Instead, rent your vacation home in the shoulder seasons, either in the fall or in the spring. Many Green Valley, AZ, rentals have more moderate rates during these times than in the high winter season. Plus, you can already save on your lodging costs by booking online and opting for by-owner vacation rentals.
Green Valley, AZ, is also home to several major local events. Late October brings the Annual Anza Day at Canoa Ranch, when the park fills with exhibits and a display of the Anza Trail Color Guard. Another major event happens in middle to late April, though it isn’t announced on any human calendars. Those months mark the greatest volume of migrating birds passing through the Green Valley area.
