At the edge of the World

It feels like your in a different world where time has gone back 100 years, fishing canoes, crabhunting on the beach, the market selling small cakes and donuts along with local delicacies which are home made. The tours are fantastic, Buro Buro Cave and Pearl island to name a few . The Villa was huge and with its own private beach and sea views was an excellent wind down from commercialisation. The whole area felt like you had stepped back in time and once you get used io it after a couple of days we started to relax and enjoy the tranquility. Some of the road had been washed out in a storm and to see the locals with basic equipment fixing the highway was a sight to behold. Sitting under the palms with a glas of wine at sunset really strengthened the bondds between our family group and the pictures we took every night are stunning. Weather wasn't perfect but it was the rainy season and our choice so we can't complain. The people we met were fantastic and everyone wanted to smile and say hello and then when they get used to you they just go about their normal village life. There were no pubs or clubs or even night life but we went to relax and that's exactly what happened. Cheers!!!

Well we went as we thought the website looked good but yu know what? the websire does not tell it like it is, it is much better than the website and the location is out of this world, with sunsets every night and when the sun has gone the stars come out in their millions it's just like heaven on earth. We swam at night in the warm crystal waters with the stars reflected in the sea, we swam in the day and through sunstes the salt water cleared our skin and the overall location gave us back our youth health and strength the place is just magical and we will of course be going back which is why I want to say it is awful and then we are sure to get another booking no problem but the people were so nice and helpful and friendly we just can't lie, it was a fabulous once in a lifetine experience just absolutely magnificent.
Doesnt quit live up to the hype

Most of what you see on the photos is included, but there are many things in the list of amenities that are just not there, or way oversold. For example, no boat slip, no kayak, no canoe,no tennis court, a clothesline between palm trees is the volleyball court. A rusted out metal BBQ unit set on a rickety wooden frame is the BBQ pit. Not sure where the boules area is (open area of sand?). The kitchen is very short of glasses and other items (and you need to keep the windows somewhat closed at night, or dogs will jump in through the window and rummage through your trash). The beach is really nice, but not exactly private. People do walk by all the time. It is long a shallow so perfect for small children. Also, it takes 4 to 5 hours to get there from the Tacloban airport -- causes a real logistics problem in trying to get flights. And will run you about 5,000 php each way. You MUST buy all your food on the way from the airport -- there is basically nothing in the village near the house. Also, there is very limited transport to the nearest city, so you would have to hire a local to get there at about 600 to 800 php and ride for an hour to get there (versus the usual 40 php for a jeepney). HOWEVER, the house is nice, and we enjoyed staying there. Just it is really overpriced and over hyped (so we felt a bit cheated). And you have to be well prepared that you are going to go and STAY there. There is not much in the village nearby.
Have been meaning to get some photos to you.
We had a wonderful stay at your home in the Philippines. It was the most unforgettable vacation any of us have ever enjoyed. The islands were stunning, the house comfortable, the people so welcoming and lovely; truly beautiful inside and out. They welcomed us into their village and daily lives with open hearts and minds. We feel blessed to have had the time there. And, we made life-long friendships in only one weeks time. We were sad to leave.
Thank you so much. And, thank you for allowing the extra night. Relieved to not have to fly through that typhoon. And, we lucked out -- the extra night happened to be a full moon so we got to take part in a coconut crab hunt!

I wanted to tell you how much we have truly enjoyed our time in Sulangan. It was one of the best trips ever - this from a family that has been to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hainan Island, Hawaii, Florida, South Carolina and other fantastic holiday spots and places around the world.
WHAT MADE THIS TRIP GREAT ?
- The Environment. Waking up to the ocean, walking 30 meters and dipping the foot in. Walking out at low tide and exploring nature. The local kids.
- The assistance from Michelle, Christine, Boy, Andy, Grandma (that's what we all had to call her). Are wonderful people. They helped us at each moment. Groceries, trips, any questions. I wanted to either stay or bring them home with me. My young son still asks if he can go next door and see Michelle and Christine.
- The Spot. Leyte bay in front of you. With its majestic views and calm waves welcoming you to step in and enjoy. The Pacific Ocean on another with its power and awe, begging you to come and give it a try. Then there in the middle is the causeway in between. Wildlife abounds as you can see both sides. Then to top it all off you can venture to any number of islands in less than two hours and find the best snorkeling this side of the universe. I saw things snorkeling that I have not seen diving!
- The House. Is better than any Hilton or Marriott. They can't supply the space or the stars.
We are going to email a picture shortly and will probably be booking again in October.
The best beach villa vacation we ever had and we're from Florida!!! Why?!
The shallow, crystal clear waters that seem to reach to the Islands in the
distance at low tide,
Incredible sunsets off your back porch,
Incredible sunrises a short drive away,
Fresh fish for sale few steps down the beach,
The damp, cool, caves carved out of the volcanic island rock
Snorkeling at the Pearl Island Preserve in the Gulf of Leyte,
Snorkeling in the river where the tide carries water from the Gulf to
the Pacific and back again, just a few steps from the house,
Snorkeling in the Pacific,
Snorkeling in the tide pools,
Snorkeling at the beach off your back porch
Tide pools filled with infinite numbers of starfish, sea urchins,
fish and sea life,
and....... The People
