Ball Mill House
April 25, 2013
The owner of this home is very accommodating and friendly. The description is accurate and the property is rustic. Some pointers are to remember that this is indeed a very old home as is represented. We figured out that the vents to the bedrooms were closed hence we froze the first night but it was comfortable the second night. The beds were comfortable but full is little small with a big husband beside you :). Slept on the futon in the room next to the bed! No shower in the bathroom got me in a bit of trouble with the men but they survived. We enjoyed the surrounding property and the peaceful surroundings away from it all and had a nice time with friends.

Just what we were looking for!
September 25, 2012
The cabin was all it was described to be. Lots of space to get away from each other to read or take a nap undisturbed and areas large enough for everyone to gather together to talk. Kitchen was very well stocked with cooking and eating utensils, even a crock pot, toaster & coffee pot. There was wooden furniture for the front porch which was comfortable for sitting and several folding lawn type chairs for extra persons. We spent a lot of time gathered on the porch. Keep in mind, the mosquitoes were TERRIBLE but we came prepared with sprays, citronella candles and tiki torches so it wasn't a big deal for us (we live in the South!). The grounds were recently mowed and well cared for. There were some games for the kids & adults as TV reception is nonexistent! But we brought some movies for the kids. Cell phone reception is not good inside but can get enough reception to keep in touch by going outside. We even discovered some "hotspots" inside. The only disappointment (and reason for only 4 out of 5 star rating)was the kids came excited and equipped with poles and bait, ready to fish. However, there was no pond or stream to fish in as was suggested in the property discription. There is a very shallow creek that is quite overgrown w/ bullrushes making it impossible to fish in. We even called the caretaker to make certain we didn't need to explore farther into the wooded area for this pond. The caretaker was very helpful and explained that the creek was once much bigger and deeper making it suitable for both fishing and a canoe type boat. It is located close enough to town that running to the store isn't a big ordeal. There ar at least 2 grocery stores and Walmart within 15 minutes. We enjoyed eating a a mexican restaurant in town and heard great things about the fish house just down the road. Unfortuately, we had to leave before we had time to try it out. Overall, we loved it and would have given it 5 stars had it not been for lack of fishing as we were expecting. Would I book and stay again...absolutely, and we hope to! Would I recommend it to someone else...I already have!
Owner's reply:
We appreciate the favorable review. As for the fishing, there IS a pond and stream close to the house-- in fact, 2 streams go through the property. They are low at this time of the year, allowing the reeds to take over somewhat. Still, there IS an area of stream-fed pond in which to fish. There is also at least 1/4 mile of clear water upstream (2-4 feet deep in places) on our 62 acre property to fish in. The "pond" clears out each winter, so spring and early summer are good times for fishing.
The mosquitos were much worse than usual at this time of year in the last few weeks because of the recent flood.

Beautiful, peaceful retreat
January 21, 2011
We had a lovely Christmas at this cabin! The grounds are expansive, with lots of area for hiking and exploring. We discovered several little "nooks" around the property with benches for stopping and enjoying the quiet country scenery. We had read another review on this site noting the cabin was too cold, but this was not our experience at all! It is a lovely log cabin with an enormous stone fireplace and a large stockpile of cypress wood out back. Between the central heating and the fireplace, the temperature remained steady at 68 degrees throughout our stay. The bedrooms, situated at the perimeters of the cabins, were, admittedly, very cool in the evenings, but the cabin comes stocked with bins of blankets. We were also allowed to bring an electric blanket. It's a log cabin, so it's drafty, but with the fireplace, very comfortable. This is a beautiful, traditional log cabin with all the necessary amenities. We'll be back!

Rustic Cabin sitting on 67 acres. In a secluded area with enough acreage to venture out and explore. Close to stores. Very quiet and relaxing. Very humbling. Owner was very nice and care taker was very nice and helpful.
Owner Supplied Testimonials

This is a beautiful family property used by our own family members whenever it is not rented. We know its best features and we know its limitations. It is rustic. It is in the woods, so bugs are part of the environment. Our caretaker cleans regularly, but please be aware that cobwebs, dust and bugs can re-appear overnight! The tub is beautiful, but old. Some of the appliances are brand new, some have a few years of age on them and, as in any home, will be replaced when they are no longer functional. All windows facing roads have blinds, but to preserve the rustic atmosphere, we have not hung frilly curtains. The central heating and cooling system is brand new and works beautifully, but please keep in mind that this is a log cabin and thus not insulated, so it can be chilly in the outer rooms in winter. There are loads of blankets available for winter visits and the stone fireplace provides marvelous heat! We hope you will enjoy our cabin for its forested, country setting and the charm of its wooden floors, log walls, stone fireplace and wide front porch for whiling away a lazy weekend.
