Area Description
Hermanus is situated between mountain and sea only an hour away from Cape town International Aiport. Hermanus is well known for the best landbased whale watching in the world but also offers boat based whale watching excursions. The Hermanus Golf Course is one of the few golf courses in South Africa which has 27 holes. The Arabella Golf Course is only 24 kms away from Hermanus and at nearby Betty's Bay you can view penguins at Stony Point and also visit the Harold Porter Botanical Garden. Travel to Gansbaai only 40 minutes from Hermanus and join one of the many Great White Shark viewing excursions around Dyer Island and Shark Alley. The Fernkloof Nature Reserve has more plant species than the whole of England and Ireland together and offers 3 different hiking routes. Hermanus is famous for its cliff path, hugging the coast from Grotto Beach to the new harbour (12 kms). A great part of the path is wheelchair friendly. The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (Heaven on Earth)has several Wine Estates of which Bouchard Finlayson and Hamilton Russell are the best known but there are several other estates to visit for wine tasting.
Situated at the foot of the mountain within walking distance of two main swimming beaches and several smaller ones as well as the sea front cliff path.
