Description of the Highland vacation home rental

Special Hudson River-front house with spectacular view in a unique private setting, only 90 minutes by car or train from NYC. Enjoy Hyde Park, the Roosevelt and Vanderbilt Homes, the village of New Paltz, mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, boating, and the world-famous Culinary Institute, all less than 20 minutes away. Or just have a nap by the fireplace or a dip in the pool.

Sleeps up to 10 in 3 bedrooms, a spare room with loft inside the Master suite, and the game room. Formal dining room with seating and service for 12, living room with a giant fireplace and piano, large kitchen/family-room adjacent to the pool, and a game-room with fireplace in the walkout basement. Everything connected by two 50-ft decks overlooking the Hudson. Play ping pong, sing along at the piano, shoot pool on an antique Brunswick pool table, or watch DVD's and sing Karaoke from the huge screen HDTV in front of the fireplace.

Master suite has its own balcony overlooking the pool and river, king-sized 4-poster bed, walk-in closet, sitting area, private bath and bidet, dressing counter and additional sink. Bedrooms #2 and #3 have queen beds, river views, and a shared bath. Game room offers a fold-out full-size bed, and a spare room with air mattress off the master suite offer additional sleeping. Plenty of room for your own bedding, too. High-quality linens, down pillows, towels and comforters throughout.

Free wireless internet, high-quality firewood, strong cell signal, top quality kitchen appliances, large charcoal grill with utensils. Two-car garage, W/D, central air/heat, and smoke-free. Child-proof electric sockets and door gates for little kids. Just bring your toothbrush.

Area Description

The house is situated off Bellevue Avenue which, like its name, affords spectacular views across the Hudson River toward Dutchess County, New York. The town itself, a classic small New England hamlet with no Starbucks or Burger King, is perfectly located with mountains to the west, river to the east, and quiet countryside all around.

Five minutes from Mid-Husdon Bridge, across from Culinary Institute of America, FDR Mansion, Vanderbilt Mansion. 20 minutes to Mohonk Mountain House, rock climbing and mountain biking in the famous "Gunks", wine trails, apple picking, horseback riding, and colleges including New Paltz, Vassar, Marist, Bard. Music, art and cultural events, antiquing, hiking. The property extends to the Hudson river, accessible in early spring and late fall.

I recently stayed at Dan Critchett's Hudson Riverfront House in Highland NY. When my fellow guests and I arrived, we were amazed at the sheer beauty of the house and the incredible view of the river from the deck. The amazement did not end there. Every room was spacious and neatly presented, and the beds were so comfortable we had a tough time leaving the house. We never found ourselves with nothing to do, thanks to the variety of games around the house, from ping pong to pool table to singing with the karaoke machine. We had an incredible stay and will without a doubt be making another visit in the future.

We rented this lovely locale for my 60th birthday gathering..... the kids [30 somethings] were able to get here so easily from NYC via train.... The cooling weather added so much to our experience....the view was spectacular and the pool was delightful.... This is the best stocked place [supplies & amenities]we've ever stayed.... Although it seemed to be in the midst of minor renovations, it was beautifully appointed.... we will be renting here again!
