Hilo Oceanfront Pool-Air-Soktub-Best on Big Island

This oceanfront masterpiece has a twenty foot deck that sits above the wave-break on the eastern coast of the Big Island, 20 minutes south of Hilo. The huge deck at Wailele Kai is one of the reasons why returning guests love this house. The other reason is the zone controlled airconditioning. It is a luxury mainly found on the other side of the island, in the fancy resorts, to have an entire house airconditioned. However it is no holiday if in the tropics the heat and the humidity keep you sweating. We have it controlled individually so your bedrooms can stay cooler or warmer than the rest of the house. You may just use the fans, but even hotel rooms don't always let you control the temperature. This is particularly important for guests who have allergies or asthma.
The private automatic gates open to welcome you to the 3 bd 2.5 bth 2 story home with amazing views from every room. Outside is a fabulous lagoon pool that has two waterfalls, two sitting shelves surrounded by big boulders, a beautiful courtyard filled with tropical flowers and palms that includes a shower and pool toys.
The Asian inspired interior decor includes Natuzzi leather couches and ottomans, beautiful art and very comfortable beds with fine linens. The gourmet kitchen is well appointed with a wall covered in stacked stone and the counters in smooth quartz, and Bosch appliances. A stainless barbeque is on the 2nd dinning deck. This home has been designed to be elegant but really compfortable and clean at the same time.
The great room has a small desk area for your laptop and a printer/fax and ipod dock for you to use. The 42" flatscreen TV in the living room can be covered by cabinet doors when not in use. No matter how hot and humid Hawaii gets, you will come home to an airconditioned house. Unlike many hotel rooms you have the control of the fan speed and temperature. The airconditioning is zone controlled so that you can have different cold and heat in the great room and the bedrooms. There are fans too. The three bedrooms have two king beds and one TV-den with twin fold-out beds. The ensuite bathrooms have a toilet room, and two sinks with beautiful stone backsplashes and finishes. The upstairs master bath has the large soaking tub with an ocean view.
Both sides of this home have an 1/2 acre of forested tropical land that makes it all the more private. Most homes only have dining and decks on the ocean as if it never gets windy on the ocean. We have a second protected dining deck on the other side of the house, over the pool, to watch swimmers and be protected from the wind. Minumum stay is three nights except over holidays.

When we saw the waves crashing on the cliffs of this rugged coastline we knew it had to be the place for our vacation home. This is a very quiet neighborhood with beautiful homes dramatically close to the ocean and right over the wave break. If you are at the beach the waves break majestically at a distance. Here the waves break on the cliffs in full view. You can see turtles, dolfins and whales without going outside of the house. All this natural beauty and yet it is only a 20 minute drive to town where you can go to the mall, see a movie, go to Starbucks etc. This meant alot to us because we wanted the unspoiled tropical island feel without being too isolated. You can go into town for lunch on the Hilo Bay and stop at Rainbow Falls which is only 5 minutes from the restaurant. The secret of our edge of the coast is that it is much dryer than the city of Hilo. It is dryer than up the road because the storms often glide over the coastal cliffs giving it it's own climatic zone. This coastal area of the Big Island is famous for the live lava flows into the ocean, which is a 25 minute drive from the house. Volcano National Park is a seperate place, usually with cooler temperatures, and takes a 25 minute drive. The Hawaiian Botanical Gardens are breathtaking (45 min. drive up the Hamakua coast) and follows a path down to the ocean. There is also a nice 9 hole golf course next to the Hilo Bay that has okay greens with beautiful Banyon trees, for only $30.00.

Many guests visit the renowned (largest in the world) Mauna Kea Observatory on the snowy volcano of Mauna Kea, only one hour from the house. Only 15 minutes away is the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory and Visitors Center, and the Makuu Farmers Market and Swapmeet with live entertainment.

There are also wonderful waterfalls to visit just outside of Hilo on the Hamakua Coast. Zip-lining above rivers and waterfalls is popular as is snorkeling, swimming, diving, horseback riding in Waipoo Valley, and hiking at the surrounding beaches. The house is equipped with snorkel gear, lanterns for the night lava watch, bikes, tourist books, movies and games.
