Area Information
Honokaa is a quiet community of more than 2500 residents aproximately 1250ft above sea level. Above the sea fog, the tropical rains along with daily sunshine are perfect for Honokaa's lush vegitation. There are boutique shops, coffee shops, a farmers market as well as a full service grocery store, Malama's Grocery. Honokaa has a U.S.Post Office, banks, a community swimming pool, library, theater, schools and a number of churches of diffrent denominations.
No visit is complete without a trip to Tex's Drive In, where fresh, hot Malasdas are waiting for your enjoyment along with a full menu of local island dishes and plate lunches.
Honokaa is only 13 miles from Waimea(Kamuela), a cultural center and headquarters for the famed Parker Ranch, once the largest working cattle ranch in the United States.
Centrally located at the northern end of the Big Island of Hawaii, Honokaa is only 43 miles from Hilo and 45 miles from Kona International Airport.
Within 30 minutes drive of Honokaa, you can snowboard on Mauna Kea, snorkle or scuba dive at Spencer's Beach, surf at Hapuna Beach State Park(almost one mile of white sugar sand beach), ride a zipline across deep canyons with waterfalls, take a jeep ride down into the ancient Wapio Valley, ride horseback, play golf, tennis or whatever your in the mood for.
