Description of the Hudson vacation home rental
Just minutes from the Taconic Parkway and Lake Taghkanic State Park’s beaches and hiking trails, the house is privately nestled away on almost 9 secluded acres, with full views of the Catskill mountains. Open floor plan with 24’ cathedral ceiling, modern appliances, 4 bedrooms (2 with en suite baths), 3 bathrooms (one w/ jacuzzi bathtub, one with modern soaking tub), separate TV room with 42" 1080 flat screen and fold out couch, wraparound deck with gas grill, and separate lounging platform on private ridge. Weekends available from $700 and up, 3-day and holiday weekends $1000, $1250/week, or $4500/month. Cleaning Fee = $180 and up depending on size of group. Summer (June 1-August 30) = $12,000 + utilities.
If you want the beach, Lake Taghkanic is 5 minutes away from the house. It has two beaches, a concession stand, and a nice 6 mile hiking trail around the lake. You can also rent paddle boats.
Art Omi is fifteen minutes away in Ghent. Omi is a large sculpture park, with an artists-in-residence program.
For a touch of history, the Hudson River School painter, Frederic Church, built his spectacular estate house, Olana, fifteen minutes away. Olana has beautiful views of the hudson river and Catskill mountains, and walking tours of his rather eccentric moorish style house.
There are also a number of mansions along the Hudson River that are historical sites (e.g., Clermont and the Wilderstein Mansion). Others are further south.
Hiking in the Catskills is not to be underrated. Some of the hikes can be a drive of 30 minutes or more, but are well worth it for the expansive vistas of the Catskill mountains at the top of the trails!
Tanglewood is a special treat in Lenox Mass. Also can be a bit of a drive, but the cheap lawn tickets and summer picnics at night are well worth it.
There are dozens of antique shops, galleries, and restaurants on Warren street in Hudson, to make for a day of shopping, strolling and dining.
Rhinebeck is a lovely small town - about 25 minutes south on Route 9. Again, more shops and restaurants, and a farmer's market on Saturday. There is also an art house movie theatre there, Upstate Films, which has independent and foreign films.
Bard College and the Fisher Performing Arts center are located in Tivoli, along with a number of good restaurants, as well.

Perfect house in the country
June 27, 2013
Fantastic house, looks even better in person than in photos. We were 3 couples who wanted a country weekend away and this absolutely delivered. Beds are super comfortable, kitchen was great for cooking, loved the deck for sunsets, stars, and relaxing. Great location near towns of Hudson, Rhinebeck, and Red Hook. Spent the day at nearby Lake Taghkanic state park, afternoon wine tasting at Tousey’s and following day did Tivoli Sail on the Hudson and quick dip in a secret Waterfall on Bard’s campus. Would absolutely recommend.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at the house. Thanks for the recommendations on the venues for wine tasting and sailing! I'll be sure to update my listing to let others know. There are so many things to do in the area, I never tire of hearing how people spent their visits. Do stay in touch and come again!

Luxury Cabin Feel & Best View
February 20, 2013
We were looking for a rental that had a large cozy main room (boardgames & fireplace hang!) & enough bedrooms to accommodate our group comfortably. Amelia's cabin had just that. The main room has incredible high ceilings, lots of light, and the best view of the catskills area we had ever experienced. The kitchen is a good space to use for making group dinners. The cabin is close to Hudson and Rhinebeck in case you need a short outing. There is a BBQ on the deck, which I imagine would be really fun to use in the summer time. The house had very modern amenities (modern bathrooms w/ LARGE big bath tubs/showers, proper heating, comfortable beds), but had a very log cabin outdoorsy feel. It was perfect! Amelia was really great at communicating throughout the weekend and checked in and the driveway was plowed after the snow storm. We look forward to returning this year!
We were so glad you and your group enjoyed yourselves and felt at home! It is indeed a great space for groups because of the open kitchen, breakfast bar, and privacy of the bathrooms next to all the bedrooms on the 3 floors. Do come back and enjoy the house when it is warmer and you can grill and relax on the wrap around deck! We have many repeat guests who love returning over and over.

We went to the house for a weekend with another couple and we had the best time ever. The area is gorgeous hidden in the woods, and the house is spectacular. Best of all of the owners' kindness and availability to answer all our questions and respond to our needs. We had a snow storm one night, and the owner called her plow-guy so the road to the house was cleared the next morning before 9am!
Owner Supplied Testimonials
When we first pulled onto Sugar Mountain Road after winding our way through the hilly terrain of the Hudson Valley, we were all excited about the house nestled on the ridge. We were first graced with the beautiful view through the large west facing windows. The kitchen handled our party of seven with everyone wanting to cook. The sunsets were amazing to watch from the worn leather couch. Even the little ridge at the back of the house running up the rocky hillside with its variety of mosses and lichens provided a brief jaunt into the woods. The beds were comfy and everyone had a wonderul weekend. We all discussed returning again for the spring.
Your house was wonderful for us during our week in NY. All our family had a great time and your home was perfect. My wife kept singing the praises of your kitchen! Thanks again for letting us stay there.
Thoroughly enjoyed the house, the area, your view (fantastic) and your cookbooks :) Will be in touch next time we're aching for Hudson.
We can't thank you enough for the house rental this past weekend. The house and the weekend were even more gorgeous and relaxing and amazing than we ever could have imagined. It is a truly wonderful house and the views are beyond stunning.
I just want to say thank you for allowing us to rent your house. It allowed us to get away from everything for a weekend and really made it that much better. Once again thank you.
