Area Description

Huntington Beach, California... was
named by the New York Post as one of the top five
destinations for teenagers and their parents. Surf City is a favorite
place for kids to not only eat and shop, but participate in many
recreational sports. Also, Huntington Beach is consistently ranked in
the top 10 safest cities in America (population over 100,000).

SURF
(daily, esp. during summer) Most popular are surfing camps that
specialize in teaching beginners to get into the water and onto a
board. For the active youth, however, Huntington Beach has a
reputation as an extreme sports venue and in the past several years,
has been home to competitions such as Core Tour BMX and King of the
Dirt Hill, US Open of Surfing and Beach Games ASP 6 Star Rating
qualifier, ESPN X-Games surf competition with East meets the West,
National Professional Paintball League (NPPL) Competition, Association
of Volleyball Professional (AVP) Pro Beach Volleyball Competition,
Hello Kitty Boardfest with Holly Beck, Serena Brooke Surf Camp and
Van's Triple Crown of Skating. There are over 50 surfing competitions
throughout the year, as well. Huntington Beach is known as "Surf City,
USA" with great waves all year round. Link to live surf cam Surf
Report here!

FISH (daily) Also, you don't need a license to fish on
California piers. You do need a California Fishing License elsewhere,
however.

BONFIRES ON THE BEACH (daily) Temps. at the beach change very
little from season to season. On most evenings in Huntington Beach,
California, you can smell the wood burning from campfires at
Huntington's three beaches, Huntington City Beach, Bolsa Chica State
Beach and Huntington State Beach. All three have cement fire rings
offered for free use on a first come first serve basis. The campfire
tradition lives on from generation to generation in this time honored
celebration that brings families, friends and business associates
together in a circle, huddled around the warm glowing flames to fend
off the chilled night air of the Pacific Ocean. While evenings in
Huntington Beach seldom reach below 55 degrees and the average
temperature is around 62 degrees, the ocean sometimes creates a misty
atmosphere that, along with the soft winds, creates a chill.

CONCERTS ON THE BEACH (August) Live, free concerts on the beach
throughout August. Pier Plaza Pacific Coast Highway & Main St.
Concerts include outdoor cement seating and grass lawn with full
exposure to the sun and pier. Bring blankets and chairs if you like.
All Concerts Are FREE!

(TUESDAY NIGHTS) Downtown Main Street is closed to allow only pedestrians. 5:00pm-9:00pm Live free entertainment and food booths of all ethnic offerings. A very lively event!

Includes flowers, fruit, breads, nuts and specialty foods are sold
fresh to the consumer.

Farmer's Market is also held Friday afternoons from
noon until dusk, admission is free. ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR (weekly) Held
in conjunction with the Farmer's Market is an arts and crafts fair
which features over 50 vendors selling gift items often not found
elsewhere. From original artwork and photos, stained glass and wind
chimes to rugs and clothes, you never know what you'll find at this
event, though you can be sure you'll see lots of colorful California
gifts.

SAND VOLLEYBALL (daily) Huntington Beach is a sand volleyball
paradise. There are well over 20 nets stretching along the beaches of
Huntington with approx. 19 located near the Huntington Beach Pier
alone!

5-STAR AMENITIES (daily) Hyatt and Hilton Resort and Spa
amenities available including spa, restaurants, ice cream parlor,
convention centers, and shops. Get a massage, facial or just a
pedicure! Enjoy their 5-star restraunts or relax by the fireplace in
the "Red Lounge" that offers live jazz music. Have a wedding or event
at the Hyatt or Hilton Waterfront' Stay longer and enjoy Huntington
Beach for a fraction of the cost of the hotels.

THEME PARKS (daily) 20
mins to Disneyland, the happiest place on earth. 20 mins. to Knott's
Berry Farm. Take the train to Legoland in San Diego! Also... Universal
Studios (45 mins. away) Magic Mountain (70 mins. away) San Diego Zoo
(90 mins. away) Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific (20 mins. away)

SHOPPING (daily) 15 mins. to Newport Beach's Fashion Island and South
Coast Plaza Shopping.

HORSEBACK RIDING (daily) 5 mins. to Horseback
riding. The Huntington Beach Central Park Equestrian Center is one of
the city's great treasures. Local residents and tourists can take
horse guided tours and enjoy several annual events with shows,
competitions, food and fun. Also available is the venues meeting and
special events space perfect for a birthday party, social gathering or
even a wedding.

FRISBEE GOLF (daily) 5 mins to frisbee golf. This
Frisbee golf course is considered by some to be the most beautiful
disc golf course in Southern California. Overlooking Lake Huntington
and only a few miles from the beach, their course consists of 5,400
feet of play space that can expand to 6,100 feet for tournament play.
It is an 18 holes or basket course that starts on a hilltop adjacent
to Golden West Street across from the new Huntington Beach Sports
Complex and winds down dirt paths to partially-shaded fields.

AIRPORTS (daily) Only 15 mins. to John Wayne Int'l Airport (SNA) and
15 mins. to Long Beach Airport. 30 mins to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).

GOLF (daily) Pelican Hill Golf Course is a short 10 min. drive down
the coast.

BIKE, JOG, WALK (daily) Bike rental (tandem, 4-seaters,
etc.) available at the beach. Enjoy a stroll, jog or ride along
Huntington Beach's 8 mile "strand" (sidewalk on the sand) from Sunset
Beach to Newport. Huntington Beach, California is known not only for
its great roads but also for the well-maintained 8.5 mile cement path
that runs parallel to Pacific Coast Highway. Located on the ocean side
of the highway, this path sees thousands of bicyclists, joggers and
walkers on a daily basis. The scenic paved path some prefer to call a
promenade, boardwalk or road stretches from Sunset Beach (1 mile in
length), through Huntington Beach (8.5 miles) and through Newport
Peninsula (nearly 3 miles). It is possible to get a 12 mile workout
one direction or 24 miles total. For the distance workouts, you can
take the underpass that connects to the Santa Ana River Trail near the
bridge beyond Brookhurst Street. That trail goes all the way through
Orange County to Yorba Linda and Featherly Park for an estimated
additional 32 miles.
