"Cue the Eagles"
August 17, 2012
Upon arriving to this lovely home, we walked out onto the deck to be taken by the awesome view....and then an eagle flew by....so close and so beautiful. We knew we were in the right place for the week.

Just Wonderful!
June 21, 2012
Our vacation at Islesboro Island was wonderful. Beautiful scenery, lovely home rental with everything we needed and more. The house has so much character and is very welcoming. We enjoyed the peaceful area and incredible views. I loved how you could smell the wonderful pine trees on the breeze. We spent many hours at Hutchins Island, looking at all the beautiful rocks, shells and the view. Ate some incredible lobster, yum. We really hated to leave and hope to return one day. So glad we made this trip.

Charming, Family-Friendly and Serene
September 14, 2010
Such a beautiful, well-appointed home. It feels more like the home of a friend than a rental. The interior is cozy and livable yet shows hardly any wear and tear. Plenty of toys, books and DVDs for little ones; cozy chairs and fabulous views for us older ones. Beds are very comfortable and there are plenty of towels, linens, etc. The landscape is breathtaking. Kids had fun catching frogs and slugs in the front yard. The beach is wonderful: placid, crystal-clear water with world-class stones. I didn't want to leave.

Peaceful and scenic getaway
August 30, 2010
This charming cottage has panoramic views of Ryder Cove and offers its own private beach. The water is fairly shallow close to shore so it's ideal for young children. Bird watchers will love the many osprey that hunt the cove. We also spotted night hawks one evening and an occasional bald eagle. The long driveway is great for morning runs (or walks). We also walked most days to Hutchins Island at low tide to dig for clams or explore the tidal pools. My father loved buying fresh lobster directly from the lobsterman that lives right down the road and Durkee's Market, also nearby, reminded him of the country stores that used to be around during his childhood. We were fortunate to have great weather and one evening took an island cruise aboard the Aurora to view seals, porpoises as well as the spectacular summer mansions that line the Dark Harbor coast. Our tour guide knew lots of interesting information about the island and its residents which made the cruise all the more enjoyable. The home is also fully stocked. I liked to say that if you looked hard enough for what you needed, you'd find it. From the bikes, board games, Wi-Fi, expansive video collection, kayaks, and big-screen TVs to a variety of kitchen gadgets and tools, we felt right at home. If you are looking for a place to kick back, explore the outdoors, and take in the spectacular scenery of the Maine coast, this is the spot for you.

Seclusive Beauty
September 8, 2008
This house is situated on a bluff of 7 acres overlooking Ryder Cove. It is truly a beautiful setting. Yet, just a short trail takes you to 450' of beach and 2 Kayaks to explore Ryder Cove. It is well protected with calm waters and a number of yachts at anchor. One must travel by ferry from Lincolnville to Islesboro island. This adds an element of excitement and also a feeling of truly escaping the hectic pace of the mainland. The island is home to only 600 people 10 months of the year while the population expands to 2,000 during the 2 months of summer. There are beautiful beaches, unspoiled scenic trails and islands, beautiful homes (mansions called "cottages") and some well known shipyards. Fresh lobster is available. A charter sail boat excursion was a big treat. Plan to experience life as it once existed 2 generations ago. Everybody waves to you while passing in their car and there exists a close connection between the native islanders and their environment
Owner Supplied Testimonials

We absolutely love the place! Spectacular views & such a homey cottage. My husband & I experienced kayaking for the first time & thoroughly enjoyed the tranquility on the water. My aunt & uncle from Rockville, Indiana joined us for 2 days and we were all excited when ____ & ____ came onto the property & spoke to us! We're looking forward to spending all of our summers here. Jeanie & Bill, (Albany, Georgia)
Outstanding, excellent, words are hard to describe the peaceful week of great weather highs in 70's. We ran, walked, toured; everyone was so friendly, -- ate lobster, clams and mussels, saw DEER, SEAL, EAGLE. It's so refreshing to step away from the commercial world; this spot reminded me of Ireland. Hope to return for a longer stay. When the schedules are packed and the stress of the day creeps in -- memories will drift to this wonderful spot. Thanks for sharing your island retreat. All the best. Marie and Mike W., Auburn, Alabama
Two weeks gone--wonderful, magical weeks! Your home is a true retreat - all things lovely-from any place all beautiful, restful.
Thanks for allowing us here to experience Maine the way it should be. We met so many wonderful islanders! Best Bob & Pat D. from Virginia June & July 2010
The peaceful relaxation was great. There was just enough for our 4 year old to do and he even went kayaking with dad a few times The island residents were really friendly and we loved the homemade baked goods from the local store. We wish there was a sit- down restaurant, but take-out pizza was great. We will certainly come back again. Randy & Amy
(Note: There is now in 2010 a sit-down restaurant.)
We came to have a relaxing vacation and celebrate our wedding anniversaries - Leo & I (31 Years),and my sister & her husband (33 years). We've had a great week despite some drizzly weather. The house is fabulous - very peaceful, comfortable and gorgeous views. Danny & Leo have gone fly fishing everyday. Our dogs have loved their walk every day to Hutchins Island. Bodie (our yellow lab) has perfected his swimming /retrieving, and Reggie (our dachsunt) has tried to keep up. Lottie (Steph's dachsunt) has enjoyed napping. All have enjoyed the deck & view! We went to Camden & Rockport twice, did some shopping and brought back lobsters (steamed), from Graffam's in Rockport. We had a wonderful lobster dinner on the deck that night with a gorgeous evening. Leo & I lived in Rockport when we first got married . Tonight we are going to the Edge restaurant in Lincolnville for dinner We've enjoyed movies on the big TV & also played a long, but fun game of scrabble. I have taken a roll of B &W pictures with my old SLR camera to see if I could rekindle my artistic side--we'll see! All in all, we've had a great week, with many memories, and hope to come back again. Thanks for everything.
This magical, mystical place seems to have a profound impact on everyone who visits here! I'm happy to be among the lucky few who have experienced a week on this Cove with all the bright & dark moods the Maine Coast has to offer. I've explored the entire Maine coast from Eastport to Kittery and this is one of the most special places I've found so far! I came to Islesboro in the mid-1990's and stayed on Ames Cove by the Yacht Club for two summer trips. I knew I would have to come back & I'm so glad I did! Your wonderful house and this spectacular location is a perfect spot to watch the tides change to feel the wind up the cove and to see the moonlight on the water..On a sunny day, it's a command post for hiking, biking & kayaking, & on a rainy night like tonight, it's a comforting refuge from the storm. Sitting on your upper deck, I could see miles of the coast to the north and the east, what you can't see from here, you can see from Hutchins Island, only a short walk away. My dog, Starr and I reluctantly leave here tomorrow with many many fond memories from the whole week. You really can't imagine how much you nourish the souls of visitors like me by sharing your incredible house. Thanks!
Those Dark Harbor summer residents don't know what they're missing! I am touched by the entries by guests like the Lehmanns, who also feel the special wonder of this place and understand it's healing powers. Laura B & Starr ( who is more exhausted than she's ever been!)
I just wanted to write a quick note to tell you how much we enjoyed our visit to your house with the views and its other
amenities. We walked, biked, kayaked, went to Hutchinson Island, grilled, played horseshoes, watched the Red Sox & movies on tv, and did not miss a ferry. On the mainland we went to the Andrew Wyeth musuem and shopped the Main Dog in Camden. We sailed on the Olad which is such a beautiful boat. Our dog enjoyed all the attention that he got on our
travels and appreciated not being sent off to "camp" for our
vacation. Thank you for your concern for us and for all the
information that you provided to us. The information definitely assisted us. We greatly enjoyed our visited to your house and want to thank you for sharing it with us.
My best wishes, M. from state of Georgia 2007
As I sit here in muggy Augusta with my air-conditioning running, Islesboro seem but a distant memory! We had the best time. Things could not have been better-- from your lovely house to wonderful weather. Your house really is amazing. It is so well equipped with everything we could possibly need, not to mention so charming and comfortable. I also think you must have the best view on the island.
The weather was such that we could eat on the porch several nights, which was thoroughly delightful. And of course you even have the wire and baby gates around the porch so that we did
not have to worry about our Yorkie. I particularly enjoyed
all the walking I could do right out your front door and feel as if I were all alone in a virgin forest. I just loved
the trees. We tried out all of your sports equipment too--
horseshoes, bikes, kayaks. We did go back to the mainland
two days, and one of those days we went for a short sail.
Our only problem was that we did not have enough time!
Will you be planning to rent your place next year? If so, we
would love to come back.
Thank you so very much for sharing your special space with us. Nancy 2007
Wanted to touch base and tell you what a wonderful time we had on the island. Thoroughly enjoyed the house, the view, the weather, the rest!!!
Did miss ______'s street lights when they left, as it made the night driveway walks with the dogs easier. Thanks so much for sharing this special spot with us.

Islesboro has been the place our whole family returns to year after year for the sheer peace &
beauty everywhere you look -- but this gorgeous view & lovely home trumps all. Thank you for opening your home - toys & all! to us!
The kayaks were just so much fun, the wind storm was thrilling to watch & we've picked up every red & yellow leaf between here & Hutchins Island for leaf projects. Lobster, late nights, & lovely lovely views -- hate to leave this beautiful house & perfect spot. Tom & Kathy G. and all! Oct. 2006
We just wanted to write and tell you both how much our family enjoyed renting your beautiful home on
Islesboro. We had a wonderful week, and your home
was the perfect spot for us. We enjoyed hours on
the deck, our children loved the toys, and all of us slept so comfortably each night. Thank you for
sharing it with us, and we hope to rent it again
next year! Fondly, Jerry & Sarah P.
We were so delighted to be able to stay here again
this year, especially a treat for us now, since we
lost our own home to Hurricane Katrina. It was such a comfort to be somewhere familiar and so very beautiful. We loved the kayaks and enjoyed our paddling in the cove. One evening as we returned from Dark Harbor we saw a ringneck pheasant by the lupines at the Main Rd, then we saw a deer in the blueberry meadow, and a jack rabbit on the path to the house! Islesboro is such a refreshing place, and the views from your home are a spectacular wonder. Dashka & Larry L., New Orleans, LA June, 2006
What a wonderful time we had at your lovely home. It was a perfect place for our family to relax and be together. We enjoyed your pretty deck overlooking
the water. The peacefulness of the island was just
the right solution to our family sadness with our
dad's passing in June. Thanks so much for making it the right setting for all of us - we hope to return! Hope and Art S. July 2006
