We had a wonderful time staying at Rita's condo. She was a big part of the experience because she let me call her a couple of times and answered questions about Kona and the condo happily and sent us a guide to beaches, restaurants, even some Hawaiian language phrases. The condo is fabulous. You might see a cockroach or an ant (expect that in Hawaii in general) but they stayed out of our way. Cockroaches only come out in the dark so just flip the light on if you're up moving around. Its a spacious studio with a beautiful lanai, and right by a farmers market open almost every day. We recommend the Sack-n-Save for meats and fruits across from Longs and the natural foods store by Safeway & Island Naturals in Kealakekua. We didn't eat at restaurants. We used the giant gas barbecues by the pool for almost every meal &had fabulous food for cheap. Plan to bbq! The air conditioner worked wonderfully, & the kitchen had plates, coffee maker, microwave, utensils and pots, no stove. Al

Perfect stay in Kailua Kona, October 29, 2008

I was in apartment 327 and it was a perfect stay in Kailua Kona. The rooms were very clean and the kitchen has everything you need, from a coffee machine to a boiler and a hot plate. The bed is also good and there were a lot of towles in the bathroom. I definitely recommend this apartment.

Hi Rita,
I just wanted to say thanks! We had a lot of fun on the Big Island and the condo was very nice. We enjoyed being so close to the beach, and even though it's pretty touristy, it was really nice to be able to walk to lots of restaurants & shops (and the Atlantis sub - awesome kamaaina discount!). we thought the room and the lanai were clean & comfortable, and it was a good deal. We also got to drive up the Kohala coast, hike in Pololu, and snorkel in S. Kona and really enjoyed ourselves. We made good use of several of your restaurant recommendations, so thanks so much for that! It's such a shame that there are hardly any restaurants on Oahu that you can even see the ocean, much less be right on it - so that was really fun for us in Kona. I will recommend your place to any of my friends who travel that way.
Aloha,
Marian

Dear Rita,
This is just to let you know that we had a great time on the Big Island, thanks in large part to our stay in your unit at Kona Islander Inn.We found everything as promised: clean, comfortable, well-maintained, and homey. The mattress was firm, everything worked, and it was altogether luxurious to hang out on the lanai at the beginning and
end of the day. We liked the way the unit is situated, facing the inner courtyard and the pool. We heard no traffic noise at all. We slept with the sliding door open every night. The staff was friendly and helpful. And all your advice on where to go, what to eat, and what to do was helpful too.We didn't want to leave! We look forward to returning as soon as we can.
Best,
Steve & Beth Tokar

Aloha Rita!
We have returned (after another interesting flight delay/diversion out of Kona, same thing happened last year!) and enjoyed Thanksgiving with our local family, but figured it was time to check in with you about our stay at the Kona Islander. We enjoyed it, your condo and the location very much, it "fit us" just fine.
We would not hesitate to recommend staying there to anyone in the future. We are glad we discovered you and "it".
Maholo.

PS: We did the breakfast thing at "Hawaiian Style" restaurant, we couldn't believe it! An experience that I just had to take a picture of the plates. What fun.

HERE IS A RECENT REVIEW WE RECEIVED ON TRIPADVISORdotcom *****This TripAdvisor Member: Kona,Hawaii. Pleasantly Surprised” Kona Islander Inn tomlin Naperville, Illinois Mar 22, 2008 "We planned to go to the Kona Brewers Fest and wanted a reasonably priced place within walking distance. After hearing the terrible reviews about the Kona Seaside and the King Kam, we did some research and found this property. We booked online directly with the owner, Rita who has 5 units at this location. The studio unit was very clean, bright and cheery. We had a nice view of the pool, not oceanfront, but still OK. A small kitchenette with microwave, fridge coffee maker , dishes and silverware was provided. Very quiet at night even though there were two busy streets on both sides of the complex. This is a residential complex as well as vacation condos and everyone seems to be respectful of each other. Parking is a challenge here but there was always street parking available if we couldn't find a spot in the lot. Almost everything is within walking distance anyway and we rarely took the car out. Have heard that some of the units here are not so nice, but we were fortunate to find this one. Some of our brewing friends were staying at the King Kam paying $109/night and said it was absolutely disgusting. They were all asking for discounts on their rooms. We will definitely return to the Kona Islander Inn again. At only $89/night + tax this was definitely a worthwhile bargain." ****
Hi Rita,
We just got home from the Big Island. We had a wonderful time and the last place we stayed was your place.Your place worked well for us, thanks for the tip about the basketball court. We especially enjoyed the pool after we got home from a day seeing things or snorkeling.
Thanks again,
Claudette
