Description of the Kailua-Kona vacation home rental
The main living space is upstairs with an open kitchen, dining area, living area and outside porch all blended together. There is also a second guest room with queen bed. From every room are views of the ocean, the mountains and a large, private garden. One can see the ocean while sitting in bed.
The master bathroom with king bed is downstairs with ocean views looking out to the ocean on both sides. There is an adjoining second bedroom which looks out to the ocean and has two double beds. Adjoining is a floor-to-ceiling-tiled bathroom with a huge walk-in shower, large enough for partying!
Downstairs laundry room comes with washer, dryer, beach chairs, beach towels, dive masks, fins, hammocks, snorkels, golf clubs and fishing gear.
Experience island luxury with two new bathrooms, wall-to-wall carpeting and bamboo flooring throughout the living areas and granite-topped built-in kitchen.
The home and property include tidepools and old lava flows extending out into the water. From the porch are views 5 miles north to the cruise ships moored in Kailua Bay and 1/2 mile south to Kahalu'u Bay and the Keauhou-Sheraton Beach Hotel. Looking out the kitchen window one has a clear mountain view of the extinct volcano Hualalai. Runners pass by our house during the Ironman held each October.
Area Information
The house is a 1/2 mile walk north to White Sands Beach and a 1/2 mile walk south to Kahalu'u Bay.
During November through March, humpback whales are sighted off our porch. Throughout the entire year, one can watch spinner dolphin, out-rigger canoe paddlers, distance swimmers and local dive boats which head head south to Captain Cook's Monument. In the evening, dinner cruise boats and sunset boats hover off-shore... "South Pacific" has come to our home.
Keauhou Shopping Area, complete with supermarket, theater, restaurants and gift shops is 1 mile south. Nearby is the Kona Tennis and Racket Club. The 36 hole Kona Golf Club is two miles south of the house.

Wonderful oceanfront relaxation
June 25, 2012
Two adults and two teens thoroughly enjoyed staying here and we hope to return some day. This house made us feel right at home. Not fancy, but beautifully kept and with everything we needed to have a wonderful week. The sound of the surf breaking on the rocks out front provided a soothing background for life. Every dinner is a sunset cruise as the lanai looks west over the water. This house is conveniently located near nice beaches, a great grocery (KTA), and many activities. Kailua is nearby, but you are far enough from town to avoid the tourist crowds.

history, beauty, and Hawaii, what could be better?
January 2, 2012
This is an amazing home with a history that is unmatched. Understand that it is an older home and requires great respect that it is due. There is a list of kind awesome people to help out if needed and the owner is very responsive to any needs. It was a pleasure for me and my kids. You will find a great deal for an oceanfront home and it was simply a pleasure to sit on the lanai and watch the ocean, dolphins, whales in season, boarders, and the lovely sunsets with the gentle breeze. Show a little respect and you will have the time of your life. Aloha and Mahalo to the owner who takes pride and care in this amazing older home.

Retro-chic Delight!
July 4, 2011
This is the perfect home for people wanting a charming, relaxing, casual, homey getaway. Easy walking to 2 wonderful beaches and short, (4 mile) drive to shops and resturants. Easy day trips to Hawi, Hilo, Volcano Village and Southern-most Point. This quaint cottage is clean, convenient and full of pleasant surprises! Fully stocked kitchen and Snorkel/Beach supplies galore! Sunsets on the lani are worth writing home about! The kind and caring homeowner, Sue, was extremely helpful in making our 2 week stay in Hawaii a "trip of a lifetime"...not just the week we were in her "neck of the woods" but our total island adventure. Her advice to read James A. Micherner's "HAWAII", prior to visiting was priceless. We have already recommended this lovely home to friends. I would definitely return to the little yellow "House of the Whaler". I smile and sigh as I write this...

Simplicity & Perfection
April 16, 2011
We've been coming to this cottage since 1980 and it never disappoints. Fantastic location for all activities. Nothing fancy, which is one of the things we think makes it so special. Absolutely can't beat the sunsets on the porch, or sitting out on the porch during the rain w/ a nice glass of favorite drink.

Vaction in Paradise

I am so glad a friend of mine steered me towards renting a place to stay instead of a hotel or resort, getting this house was great. We felt as if we lived on the Island, even if it was only for a week. The house is older (with some history) but has many up grades and it is very charming, with a true beach house feel. It was very clean, nicely decorated and had EVERYTHING we needed(just bring your clothes). Eating out on the Lani watching the surf pounding the shore or the local birds stop by looking for a bite every mourning was something I will long remember. My wife and I enjoyed looking through the scrap books about the house the family and all the geusts that have enjoyed their stays. The owners provided all sorts of helpful information about things to do and see as well as were to shop and were very responsive to our needs. I definitly want to return sometime in the winter to see the whales.

Beautiful Oceanfront Location
January 1, 2009
Spending a week in Kona at this house made for an awesome vacation. The location is ideal. It's walking distance between two great beaches on Ali'i Drive, and downtown Kona is just a short car ride away. The beauty of the oceanfront setting cannot be stressed enough. Listening to waves crash into the rocky shoreline and tidepool in front of the house is mesmerizing. The house was very clean and well stocked, with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The top floor of the house feels very bright and airy, with large windows and great views. The porch is outstanding. The bottom level feels a bit disconnected, accessible via an outdoors stairway, but it has some nice bedrooms, a gigantic shower, and washer/dryer. Highly recommended!

This traditional Hawaiian house is all about the location and awesome view. Dining out on the lanai for every meal was a special treat for our family. The downstairs bedroom is a bit rustic for some folks but clean and comfortable. The house is well stocked with everything you will need including boogie boards, coolers and plenty of swim fins. Very private and close to town ...you will love it!

What a find!
June 25, 2008
This Hawaiian-Style gem on Alii Drive was the perfect place to enjoy Kona. We enjoyed modern amenities - 2 recently remodeled bathrooms and updated kitchen - with the charm of old Hawaii in this gracious house. Great snorkling and swimming are steps away at Kahalu'u (Turtle) Beach and the porch is the best place to enjoy the sunset. We plan to return in the winter to watch the whales migrate past the house.

Incredibly relaxing
June 25, 2008
What an amazing location and relaxing home to spend a week with our friends! All the comforts for the men (free internet, SCUBA diving and cocktails on the porch) as well as the women (snorkeling off the front rocks, reading while listening to the waves crash, more cocktails at sunset). We plan on returning soon to this piece of paradise. Mahalo!

The best vacation ever!
April 15, 2008
We had the most wonderfull vacation I have had in 30 years, The house is perfect with easy access to the entire Kona coast, and views plus relaxing atmosphere and carefree living! Everything was emaculate and we could want for nothing. This is the way to make a great vacation perfect!. Being on the ocean, we were able to watch Humpback whales breaching from the front porch, dolphins just off the shore, and sea turtles up on the tidepools just in front of the house. Perfection!
