Description of the Kailua Kona vacation home rental
Come experience Big Island living and dining directly on the water along Alii Drive. Direct access into the ocean and a large private garden with coco palms surround our home, complete with lawn, flowering shrubs, and a lava rock pathway to the water. This Hawaiian style beach home, decorated with Pacific and Asian accents, has been in our family since 1962 and was totally up-graded in 2007. There are many homes built directly on the water but few impart the same feeling as does this home with its openness and its easy access into the water for swimming, fishing and snorkeling.
The main living space is upstairs with an open kitchen, dining area, sitting area and outside porch all blended together. From every room are views of the ocean, the mountains and a large, private garden.
The master bedroom with bath and queen bed is upstairs.
Downstairs features a large bedroom with two double beds. Adjoining is a floor-to-ceiling-tiled bathroom with a huge shower, conducive to showering with a friend!
Downstairs laundry room features washer, dryer, beach chairs, beach towels, dive masks, fins, hammocks, snorkels, golfclubs and fishing gear.
In 2007 the entire house was totally remodeled with two new bathrooms, new wall-to-wall carpeting and bamboo flooring in the living areas and granite-topped built-in kitchen.
The home and property include tidepools and old lava flows extending out into the water. From the porch are views 5 miles north to Kailua Bay and 1/2 mile south to Kahalu'u Bay and the Keauhou Beach Hotel. Looking out the kitchen window is a clear mountain view of the extinct volcano Hualalai. Runners pass by our house during the Ironman held each October.
This family-owned home lies 4 1/2 miles south of the town of Kailua-Kona directly on the water. Lawns, local trees, palms, an old Hawaiian well or puka and old Hawaiian walls surround the property. One can walk down the steps from our porch across coral and lava to tidepools and a point which drops down into the water. Snorkling off our point is outstanding and the swim down to Kahalu'u Bay along the shoreline is only 1/2 mile. Kahalu'u Bay is noted for its immense variety of fish and sea turtles which forage off the coral reef. The bay is a snorkeler's dream. Nearby is the tiny blue and white St Peter's Church. Off St. Peter's is excellent for board surfing.
The house is a 1/2 mile walk north to White Sands Beach and a 1/2 mile walk south to Kahalu'u Bay.
During the winter months, whales are sighted off our porch. Throughout the entire year, one can watch spinner dolphin, out-rigger canoe paddlers, distance swimmers and local dive boats pass by as they head south to Captain Cook's Monument. In the evening, one hears live Hawaiian music coming from the dinner cruise boats which hover off-shore.
Keauhou Shopping Area, complete with supermarket, theatre, restaurants and gift shops is 1 mile south. Nearby is the Kona Tennis and Racket Club. The 36 hole Kona Golf Club is two miles south of the house.
