Beautiful home with lots of rules

July 31, 2012

We stayed six days in July at this home. The positives: the home is lovely, crafted from the finest materials and with high end finish details. It is spacious with a nice layout. The kitchen is well appointed. There is a media room with flat screen, DirectTV and multiple premium movie channels (no DVD or blu-ray player) as well as whole home audio. The location is great, on a quiet mountain but six minutes to Kalispell main st, 45 min to Glacier NP, and 30 minutes to Bigfork. Marilyn (the owner) was generally responsive when contacted about issues - she even agreed to replace the (very poor quality and unsupportive) mattress in the master bedroom after a sleepless first night. The reasons for hesitation: The house was not as comfortable as it could have been because of all the rules and restrictions - an eight page list of "thou shalt nots" which greeted us on check in. We have rented dozens of upscale homes, and are accustomed to being welcomed with materials about local attractions, information to make our stay more comfortable, and sometimes even a welcome snack or bottle of wine. The other home we rented this trip included a basket of fruit, bagels, milk, juice and coffee so late arriving guests could enjoy breakfast. There will also typically be libraries of books, movies, board games and sometimes video game consoles. None of these items are critical, but they convey a sense of comfort that you have rented a HOME, and provide for a nice and relaxing visit (especially for families with kids). Instead, we were greeted with notes and stickies all over the house: "do not touch," "do not open," "don't bang pots in the sink," "don't hang from cabinet doors," etc. Really? We tiptoed around this beautiful home/museum and it served as a good base camp for visits to Glacier and Bigfork, but we never got truly comfortable. We asked for a one hour delay on checkout because of our flight times, but that request was declined. The cleaners arrived as we were leaving and told us there was no rush since the next renter wouldnt arrive til the next day. I guess rules are rules. One last note - this was our first visit to the Flathead valley and we much preferred Whitefish over Kalispell. Better dining and shopping options, same distance to Glacier NP, close to Big Mountain activities and definitely more tourist friendly.

Almost what was promised.

The home itself is beautiful. But it is obviuos that the owners definition of luxury is less than accurate. There is one television in the entire home. It is in a far off bonus room away from the main living area. The downstairs where three bedrooms are located looks like my sons dorm room. Three matresses basically on the floor. Garage sale quality night stands are few one room has none. The picture on the website is not accurate and should be removed The matresses are old and very poor quality as well as the linens old and well used. The home itself is a masterpiece. But claiming to be a luxury stay would be a stretch at best.

Relaxation unmatched.

February 15, 2012

Probably one of the most relaxing vacations ever. Close to ammenities yet far enough removed to feel like you found a little piece of heaven. This well designed well staged home lacked for nothing. A daily visit by deer that roamed the property combined with the panaramic mountainous view enjoyed from either of the homes decks made it very enjoyable. As important was our wonderful host who generously ensured our needs were met and our stay was comfortable. If anyone wants to experience real relaxation and a little piece of heaven ithen this spacious modernly equipped log cabin is definately the place. Bob & Evelyn Winterford ps. we were skiing Big Mountain within 20 minutes from the house.

Awesome Rental Home!

September 4, 2011

Four couples who travel together stayed at the Walking Coyote home and this was the absolute best house we have had the entire time we have traveled together. Would we reccommend it to others? Absolutely! It was clean, beautiful with all the amenities you could want in a property for a vacation. Also, Marilyn Noonan was a pleasure to work with and was always helpful.

Aaberg Retreat

July 5, 2011

My family and I were extremely delighted with the custom built house and so many hidden, outstanding upgrades. We enjoyed the balcony, watching the sunsets and deer grazing by down below us. We were totally entralled by the Buffalo mountain area, Kalispell and Glacier Park. Thanks Marilyn. We are seriouly considering this retreat for next year.

Family Get Together

January 16, 2011

We had a great time starting out looking for this place, there was so much snow, we spent a couple of hours getting out of it before we were back on the road. But we went the wrong way, that was my fault. My son did a good job digging us out. Once we arrived here we were amazed at how nice this place was. We didn't know there was 5200 square feet to this home, which is great, you could have got lost in this house if you were not careful. This house on Buffalo Mountain had a great views, warm attomosphere, a great kitchen, very nice stove, if you like cooking, wine cooler, control 4 sound system, that would play you I-Pod music or it had music built in that you could pick and then pick what room you wanted to hear it in and at what volume you wanted it, speaker thoughout the house, fire place and contols, bathrooms that were amazing for being bathrooms, bedrooms very nice as well, several living rooms, loft area or computer room, three wireless modems, theater room, with surround sound and much more. The floors had to be heated because they stayed warm the whole time. So anyway we went snow sking several days, dog sled riding, and snow mobiling and had a great time but its time to go back to Houston, Texas, so I can come back next year.
