Kenmare is at the mouth of Kenmare Bay in the 'little nest', or Neidin, as it is known in Irish. It is surrounded by mountains, the highest in Ireland are located immediately to the north, the famous Ring of Kerry. The mountains immediately to the south form, the less famous, but equally scenic, Ring of Beara where many local artists live. Drives around are not to be missed!Kenmare is home to numerous award winning restaurants, pubs and the finest of shops. Local artists and craftsmen in abundance. Two 5-star hotels are in town, with spa services available. Minutes walk to a 5,000-year-old Druid Stone Circle, pre-Stonehenge, a Holy Well, miracle of sight, both in the town. A lace-making centre. Minutes drive to Kenmare Golf Club, in town and The Ring of Kerry Golf Course, 4 miles out of town, many others near-by. Local gardens are Derreen, Muckross with stately home, waterfall and working farm, and near-by Garinish Island for tropical gardens. Kenmare-winner of best town in Ireland!!

 A Beautiful heavenly place to stay, March 3, 2008

Our family of 5 stayed at Somerton in Kenmare which is in the south of Ireland. We had a wonderful week. We were met by the Hamel family who own this great house. The family showed us how everything worked and this helped us so much as it is so different at home here in the U.S. A fantastic hamper of organic goodies was left and the house was well stocked so we did not need to buy every small item from the supermarket as we have done in many other rentals preperties. The house is in a great location with fabolous views of the countryside. Kenmare town is nearby and we had some great meals out. Killarney is only 20 kilometres away and we saw a lot of both Co.Kerry and Co.Cork during the week. It was lovely to come back to Somerton each evening and relax after a tiring day of touring around.
