Reviews for this vacation cottage rental in Key Largo, Florida
Loved It... Loved It....Loved It
October 1, 2014
It was time for a father & son get away. We brought our boat and stayed a week right on the water. The price is what sold me. The amenities, functionality, location, and super nice owner will bring me back again. I loved having my boat at my own private dock. I could see it and the water from the living room. We had BBQ and swimming and our own tiki hut deck. The condo was perfect! Everything we needed was there. Penny's communication and thoroughness was beyond expectations. She wrote to us all the details well ahead of our visit including tips on diving and fishing. She had everything waiting for us with the staff at the gated community office. Instructions were clear on everything from Wi-Fi to the all-important A/C once inside. Everything worked. The condo was clean, comfortable, well organized. I felt so well taken care of it was like we were family. It was truly like staying at the home of a family member. Thank you so very, very much. Charles Ramsey

My husband and I enjoyed 16 days at Playa Penelope in May. We spent one week there in May, 2013. The location of this rental is great, especially for us with our boat , being able to fish either the ocean side or the bayside waters. Everything is clean and just as pictured on the rental website. We love having our morning coffee on the tiki dock , then the convenience of hopping into our boat tied to the tiki dock for a day of fishing.. The security at the Key Largo Kampground is 24/7. The owners are very helpful and always available for any issues that came up. We will definitely return again. The Gallman's

Spent January and February, 2014. The community activities were enjoyable, as well as the people in the community. My mother, 86 years old, loved sitting on the dock and watching all the activities. If you take the time to join in you will have a wonderful vacation. Traveled to Key West, Big Pine (Key deer refuge), Marathon Turtle hospital/rescue. So many things to see. Not to mention the snorkeling and kayaking. Penny and Keith were able to handle any difficulties that arose, in a timely manner. If we have the opportunity to come again we will definitely stay at Playa Pennelope.
We loved having Sandy, Rick, and Mom, Neta.
They were apprehensive re the vacation home rentals venue- would it be as advertised?
They weathered unexpected storms- colder than normal . [better than the unexpected weeks of snow and -30 degree wind chill for weeks on end this year up North.] They also experienced the unexpected failure of our Wi Fi and were gracious enough to let the repair person come and install a new router.
Thank you for your patience. Come again. You were great!

My wife, 2 daughters (10 and 17) and I spent a week at Playa Penelope over the New Year. We had a wonderful time. Snorkeling and Fishing in the canal from the private dock was memorable. Already planning our next trip to the Florida Keys and we will definitely be staying at Playa Penelope. Daniel S. Lake Mary, FL

This place provided everything you need and more. Some things were surprisingly unexpected. The views from the tiki dock and beach were so enjoyable during the sunrise and set. I enjoyed the recommended place John Pennekamp. You have to stay to understand you have plenty to enjoy within the area. Don't forget to try the dolphin swim.

We have spent the past month at Playa Penelope. Penny has been a warm and hospitable hostess –albeit long-distance – and someone who I am sure we would enjoy knowing better if we had the opportunity. I think the thing we will both miss the most are the hours spent under the Tiki hut out on the dock on the water, reading, having morning coffee and reading the digital paper (via the house WiFi), having dinner with visiting friends, and just watching the water roll by and the sun go down. In addition, we brought our kayaks along and have enjoyed the easy access to the water directly from the dock. We’ve also enjoyed spending time just floating in the canal in the afternoon and the ease with which we could climb back onto the dock using the newly installed ladder –not a mere pool ladder, but one that slants, has handrails, just like a regular stairway. The house itself is nicely supplied with all that is needed for daily life, and Penny has thoughtfully supplied lots of information regarding local attractions and eateries should you want to go out. A good grocery store (Publix), a big box (K-mart), and several small businesses are located within a 10 minute walk. This was our first stay at Playa Penelope but we are hoping it will not be our last. In fact, we have already asked for a reservation for “same time next year”. -November 2013
Sally and Frank were such wonderful guests. We kept in contact with each other often.
Frank repaired the door lock when it fell apart [it was only 6 months old] and Sally went shopping for a replacement hair dryer for me when mine failed!
They took care of the house like it was their own. Thank you Sally and Frank.

We had a great time in Key Largo staying at Penny's wonderful home. We had everything you can want in a home and spent wonderful evenings sitting on under the Tiki Hut on the channel watching fish go by. Penny is a wonderful host and provides you with enough information on the local eateries and activities to keep you going for weeks. The home is close to a grocery store, drug store, and restaurants galore. We didn't want to leave.

Perfection in paradise aided by an angel

We enjoyed February & March in Paradise. #1In renting anyplace - is the cooperativeness & friendliness of the person you are renting from! Penny excels in all areas. The place made living ..a dream. Not a day would pass that we didn't sit under the wonderful tiki hut,(right outside our door). "Our neighbors" introduced themselves & we joined them at a pot luck in the community center. Also we enjoyed bingo nights& games where all took part. The beach was very close(kayaks could even be delivered there for your use or a heated pool was just as close in the opposite direction. The lanai was absolutely wonderful for those bug - free, hot nights. The comfort of being in a gated community can't be beat.Penny had everything any renter could need or want! With all of the wonderful eating places so close we were able to try everything from crab bisque to shark & yellow tail! The Pilot House proved to be a favorite. The Hiddenout , Buzzards Roost,Mrs.Mac's & Dillon's'(a bit farther) all are great too. If you like watching sunsets bay side is it.There is a nice place, tucked behind the Salvation army. Extremely good service, lovely sunset & good food. At Senor Frijole's a building is in the way of a good view but the food is very good. "Woofstock" at Founders Park was a great time as well as the Sea World with all of the dolphins & parrots too. Off the same hwy. is a bird refuge. Right near the Kampground is John Penncamp Park, they have so much to do you should be sure to ck. it out. We loved this paradise for 2 months & wanted to stay an extra month but sadly it had already been rented.....PERHAPS ANOTHER YEAR!!!!!

Just a bit of Paradise
November 30, 2012
Spent 5 days at this location, the property is wonderful and is so close to all amenities. There is a large shopping centre within walking distance. Key Largo is full of activities that are very close to the property. The property is nestled on beautiful clear water right at the back door. Would return tomorrow if I could but definetely have it on my radar for next year. The owner is so pleasant and helpful it made for a wonderful time
We've been fortunate to travel for several years in the US, Europe and S. America. Our stay with you was among the best. Morning coffee under the Tiki Hut was a great start to a day of SCUBA, snorkel, or just exploring. The simple touches from your helpful notes, to the decor, and so much more really make you feel at home and relaxed. The area is quiet at night so we always got a good rest for the next days adventures, and all the neighbors were warm and friendly. There's a lot more we could say, but the best thing to do if you want to visit the Keys is to call Penny right away! PS. We wrote this with 2nd thoughts. The calendar is filling up quick and making it difficult for us to get back here! :-)
Our stay was exactly what we needed, full of relaxation. The photos don't do the dock justice, I spent hours watching the fish in the crystal clear water, and swam straight from the dock. The home had everything we needed, including a rotisserie to cook our Christmas dinner. We enjoyed the local eateries, including the Pilot House and Hobos. We used a local taxi ($5 pick up then $2 a mile) so we could both enjoy a drink. Other days we stocked up at the super market and rented DVDs for the evening. The neighbours are really friendly, even offering a boat ride. Penelope was a wonderful host, even calling to see what restaurants where open Christmas Day for us. I would definitely go back if we get the chance.
Ahhh the Florida Keys.. Heaven!!! Penny's place is wonderful, a great little spot to get away and relax. The house has everything you need for a great stay away. I went snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, to the beach at Bahia Honda Key and had a brilliant day in key west about a 2.5 hour drive. So many good food options and bars to watch the sunset. Really good times, highly recommend!!!
We spent a week loving the Key Largo life from a tiki hut on the water. We rented a canoe and a kayak from Paddle the Florida Keys (kayak) and Florida Bay Outfitters (canoe) and tied them up to our backyard dock. We paddled from the Kampground canal through the mangrove water trails to John Pennekamp State Park, relaxed dockside and watched fish swimming in the canal, and explored the Keys from our home base in the Kampground. We went snorkeling with the Pennekamp outfitters, taking a boat five miles out to sea to swim in the reef, spotting tropical fish, barracuda, stingray, live coral, and incredible blue water. We grilled out on our dock on the canal, and enjoyed the view. We kayaked through Blackwater Sound, under US 1, and into a residential canal to see three manatees who hang out in the warmer (if murky) water. We drove to Key West for sunset and dinner at Le Maison de Pepe, enjoying Cuban cuisine and live salsa music (and the best Cuban coffee on earth). We bought a whole key lime pie from Mrs. Mac's Kitchen with extra whipped cream and watched Gilligan's Island, feeling happily ensconced on a tropical island ourselves. We found the Kampground itself charming and efficient, filled with pelican statues decorated with Santa hats and whimsical lights and wreaths decorating doors, trailers, and tents. The heated pool was delightful once the sun set and the day turned cool. A row of tiki huts on the canal is a most welcome sight to greet boaters returning from a day on the water. Penny was wonderful to work with. She made the process of renting her tiki hut in paradise a breeze. She was communicative and helpful. Her directions were clear and easy to follow. The binder she left of menus and attractions was equally user-friendly! You were wonderful, Key Largo Kampground. We'll be back soon!
