Description of the Kings Park vacation cottage rental
This is a great place for the family if you are looking for a beautiful spot on the water for the summer, or any time of the year.
Escape to this comfortable cottage to write that novel or make a special quilt for the new grandchild.
The house overlooks the Nissequogue River and Long Island Sound. There is a panoramic water view from almost every room. There is a nice yard, big trees and immediate access to the water for boating.
This area is probably the best kept secret on Long Island. It is ideally located for day trips to all other Long Island locations including the Hamptons and to New York City by train or by car.
Two major state parks and local town parks and beaches are less than three miles away. One town beach, with life guards, on the Sound, is right across the water by canoe or kayak. The Nissequogue River State Park is so new it's not yet on the map.
Sunken Meadow State Park which includes a golf course and beautiful beach and boardwalk on Long Island Sound can be explored on the map. Go to the External Links section at the end of this listing and click on the Local Map link.
Explore the map by clicking on the arrows to move in various directions. The map shows our exact location.
We have recently purchased this house. We have upgraded the electrical service and included internet service. We have installed a new oil burner which provides heating and lots of hot water. Rooms have been freshly painted and furnished. We have installed a new dishwasher, a new microwave, and new washer and dryer. We provide a gas grill and table and chairs for use outside.
There are new beds and mattresses in all the bedrooms including three wonderfully sturdy bunk beds built for us by Bunkbed Dan in Vermont. These provide a lot of sleeping options as they are full size beds on the bottom with two large storage drawers underneath. The top bunk is a standard twin size which if not used for sleeping can be used for additional storage. Every bedroom has either a built-in or freestanding closet.
We think we have supplied the house with everything you will need for a very pleasant vacation. We will be open to your suggestions for anything we may have overlooked.
There is off street parking in the driveway. The separate garage is not included in the rental.
The house is located at the edge of a quiet year-round residential community. It is ideally located for day trips to any other Long Island locations including the Hamptons and to New York City by train or by car.
Be sure to go to the External Links section at the end of this site and click on the words Local Map to see exactly where we are located. Use the arrows on the map to explore all around the area for beaches, parks and parkways.
The Long Island Railroad and major state parkways serve this area with access within three miles. Your car, or a rental car, will make it possible to get to local grocery stores, shopping centers, shopping malls, churches, restaurants, state parks, town beaches, golf courses, and a myriad of other places and activities.
Canoe and kayak rentals are available locally or bring your own kayak, small boat or canoe.
Long Island is located to the east of New York City, with Long Island Sound along its North shore and the Atlantic Ocean along its South shore.
You can take a day trip to Montauk Point Lighthouse at the end of Long Island's South Fork and spend the day at Hither Hills State Park on the ocean.
You can drive onto the Orient Point ferry at the end of Long Island's North Fork for a trip across the Sound to New London, Connecticut for a visit to Mystic Seaport. There is also a ferry crossing Long Island Sound from Port Jefferson to Bridgeport Connecticut.
Many walk-on ferries cross the Great South Bay from towns along the South Shore for day trips to the ocean beaches along Fire Island.
Long Island has large suburban areas close to New York City and to the East it has farms and vineyards. There are large universities. There are concerts and theater groups.
There is something on Long Island for just about everybody and every interest.
