Area Description
Kuranda was founded in 1876 and inhabited by the Djabugay aboriginal people. Tourism began in the area at the beginning of the twentieth century and became very popular in the 1960's with the "hippie" generation for it offered a fabulous location for their alternative lifestyle.
The village is located in the rainforest 330 metres above sea level in the Cairns Highlands. The climate is cooler and less humid and just 30 km from Cairns up the scenic Kuranda Range Road with views overlooking the Great Barrier Reef.
