Description of the Kyoto vacation townhouse rental

Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, on a small cobblestone alley in the heart of the ancient city of Kyoto, you will find your home away from home. This beautifully restored Machiya retains its old world charm and provides insight into the old way of life in Japan.

It is centrally located for sightseeing, with many of Kyoto's famous temples and shrines, shopping, dining and entertainment districts closeby. There are lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. A subway station of Karasuma Line is a 10 minute walk (Shijo Station), a train station of Hankyu Kyoto Line is also a 10 minute walk (Karasuma Station), and the closest bus stop is a 5 minutes walk (Shijo Nishi-no-Toin Stop).

Unlike hotels or Japanese inns, our Machiya is a private, romantic hideaway, where you have the place all to yourselves. This very old, two story wooden townhouse was completely renovated in March, 2007, and fully furnished.

NOTE:
1) Our rate of $185 is based on full use of the entire Machiya for up to "two people" per night, and an additional $30 per person/night is requested. 4 people maximum.
2) Weekly rate does not apply in high season of March, April, October and November.
3) Tax is included in the price.

Area Information

In a convenient area, close to the main tourists attractions, such as the Kawaramachi Geisha district, Kiyomizu Temple (nominated for one of the new 7 wonders of the world), Koudaiji Temple, Chion-In Temple, Yasaka Shrine, Nishi Honganji Temple, Higashi Honganji Temple, Nijojo Castle are all closeby. There are tons of stores, restaurants and bars in our very friendly neighborhood.

5 minute taxi ride from Kyoto Station.

The "machiiya" is extremely well-maintained with all amenities provided. Pretty close to the main area in Kyoto as well. Ideal for 4-5 people who want to stay in Kyoto for more than 3 days.

This property was close to major bus routes and an all day pass got you everywhere. My daughters and I had a relaxing stay, after all day sightseeing we came back to a convenient location and well kept Machiya with so many extras. Hostess is very helpful (found us sports bar while the world cup was going on). This is a wonderful alternative to hotel living while you are away.

spent 8 nights, single female traveller, felt very safe, a beautiful renovated michaya in a lovely little alley close to everything. would absolutaly recommend. only thing no english tv. only wanted for news so felt a bit cut off from the world. but in hindsight was able to totally "live" in beautiful Kyoto.

I always enjoy renting apartments in busy, tourist cities as it gives me a chance to be in a neighbourhood I would not otherwise get to see. This Machiya is no exception - the decor and furnishings are simple, but everything is very clean and functions perfectly. I especially appreciated the quick reference cards provided that helped navigate the controls for the bath, laundry and air conditioning units. A great experience - highly recommended.
