Great family getaway!

“ Excellent ”
June 27, 2013
Our immediate family goes on a summer vacation together every summer. We've been doing this for the past 10 years. Finding just the right place is not easy. We live in Texas and Louisiana and try to find a place that we can all drive to in eight hours or less. We've been to the coast several times and stayed in three separate condos, stayed in cabins up in the mountains of Arkansas and even stayed in motel rooms in Dallas and San Antonio. This year we "booked" the Stone House Lodge in the hill country of west Texas. It was only four hours away for our son and six hours away for the rest of us. For the FIRST time, the 14 of us would be staying together in one big house. Kind of scary, since all three families are so different but we were willing to take the chance. So glad we did! Our kids and grandkids stay "on the go" all year round so it was nice to come together and meet at a place (off the beaten path) where we could "CHILL-OUT!" There was so much to do.....no need to ever leave the place! We went for walks, rode bikes, counted deer daily, played pool, air hockey, fooshball, pin ball, slot machine, piano, watched movies, worked out, swam, read, cooked out, sunbathed, enjoyed the view and played charades, Pictionary and Apples to Apples in the evenings. We left the house a total of only three times in five days. We went out to eat at Angels Ice House our last night there. The food was great, friendly staff and the grandkids had a blast dancing their hearts out! One day all fourteen of us went zip-lining and picnicing just a few miles down the highway. And then another day we went for a relaxing 30 minute country drive and counted over 50 deer! Believe it or not, as many of us as there were (6 teenagers) everyone slept well. The hot tub might have had something to do with that. Ha! Great vacation. Great cousin bonding! All in all, great family time!

Great weekend away!

“ Excellent ”
June 25, 2014
We stayed at Lake Travis Paradise for a long weekend with another family. The house was very comfortable and nicely decorated. They had games and cards to play, many movies to watch and plenty of room for all of us. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch every morning and found it very relaxing and quiet. The kids loved having the "bunk house" to themselves and the adults liked it, too!;-). We brought our boat and their dock was very nice! We sat on the dock for hours while the kids swam and enjoyed the water. This part of the lake is wonderful for skiing and wakeboarding. The boat traffic was low and the water was calm. Evening were perfect for boating. With the water being so low there is a long walk down to the dock. A narrow path had been cleared down to the path but it had grown pretty long. Just watch where you're walking and bring down the house flashlights if you think you'll be out past dark.

Perfect home for our large family

“ Excellent ”
August 7, 2014
The home is amazing, particularly the beautiful deck where we spent most of our time. The only thing that prevented a 5 star rating was the owners do not provide instructions on how to work various things like the fans, etc. the community pool which was one of the features that influenced our decision was closed & there was very limited cable. Considering the price we had hoped for those things to be available.

4 bedroom/3bath home on one floor was perfect for my adult family. Large living room was very comfortable for 7 adults. We really enjoyed sitting on the deck enjoying the private view. Was disappointed we could not bring our dog. It had a great fenced yard that Sadie would have enjoyed.

Lake Travis Travel Tips

Located near Austin, TX, Lake Travis is one of the five Highland Lakes that are fed by the Colorado River. The many activities in the area make the lake an ideal travel destination for families. Lake Travis rentals by owner make traveling with a family more affordable and less of a hassle than finding a hotel. Families who enjoy spending time in the great outdoors will find plenty to do when they stay in Lake Travis vacation rentals. When families save money by finding a rental online, they can use the money they save to better enjoy their vacation. Since Lake Travis is near Austin, there are many activities for the family aside from water related things to do. There are several modes of transportation for getting around the area.
Attractions
Lake Travis offers plenty of fishing opportunities for families. The lake is home to a number of different types of fish, including catfish, sunfish, and largemouth bass. Different areas of the lake have different fish. White bass tend to be prevalent in the early spring in the arms of the lake. Catfish can be found throughout the lake. Families who haven't spent much time fishing might consider hiring a fishing guide to help them navigate the lake's waters.
Families staying in Lake Travis house rentals can also take advantage of the many boating opportunities available along the waterfront. If a family enjoys water skiing or wakeboarding, they have the option of renting a ski boat for several hours or for the entire day. Several companies offer wakeboard lessons to people who want to learn. Families who aren't comfortable learning to wakeboard or ski can rent kayaks for a day on the lake instead.
Families who choose to stay in Lake Travis cabin rentals can enjoy spending a day or two in the parks along the shores of the lake. Pace Bend Park is one of the more popular parks along the lake. The waterfront area of the park offers a spot for launching a boat or for swimming. The swimming area in the park doesn't have a lifeguard on duty, so people need to stay alert and keep an eye on younger children and novice swimmers. Other parks along Lake Travis include Cypress Creek, which is ideal for picnicking, and Grelle recreation area, which offers a hiking trail.
Lake Travis is home to a number of museums and historical sites that families can visit when the weather isn't ideal for outdoor activities or when they've tired of spending time on the water or in a park. Lake Travis rental homes are typically located near the Highland Lakes Squadron Museum, which is located in an aircraft hangar and is home to aircraft from World War II. Families can also learn about the history of Texas by visiting Fort Croghan, one of the four forts built by the US to protect settlements from attacks by Native Americans. Another museum families can check out is the Falls on the Colorado Museum, which is located in a historic schoolhouse.
Although Lake Travis vacation rentals most likely include a full kitchen, a family might want to enjoy a meal out at one of the area's many restaurants during their trip. Anyone visiting the area and staying in one of the Lake Travis rentals should find a restaurant where they can experience Texas barbeque, something the entire state is famous for. Texas is also home to many Tex-Mex restaurants which blend American and Mexican cuisine.
Events
Annual, family-friendly events near Lake Travis include Springfest, which is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Held in April, the festival features live music, arts and crafts, and an area just for kids. During the holiday season, families can explore the Trail of Lights in Lakeway. Every evening in December, the city turns into a spectacle of light, with thousands of strings of lights illuminating the trails near City Hall. Visitors to the area should also make sure they check out the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo that takes place in Travis County in March.
