A Great Place to Stay in Maine!
October 7, 2014
This was a perfect house and location for our stay in Maine. The view from the back of the house was beautiful, the house was very comfortable and well stocked! The welcome basket was a truly unexpected surprise and much enjoyed. Thanks to David and Laurie for making our vacation a memorable one!
The best of Maine

If your looking for the perfect retreat from urban chaos and want to really relax this is the ideal vacation house. The pictures are true and even they don't do justice to the beautiful surrounding. The owners are very attentive to every detail, right down to the welcoming basket of treats. 5 STARS all the way!!
Great House-Great Location
September 23, 2014
Loved this house!! Super clean, beautiful gardens, everything you could possibly need is provided. Amazing views, every morning we enjoyed watching the family of deer eating from the apple tree. This was the perfect location for day trips and so nice to come home to the beauty and quiet of this wonderful house. You'll be amazed at how peaceful and quiet it is. The Welcome Basket loaded with Maine treats and the fresh flowers were so nice...thank you Laurie and David

We've been to maine before and stayed in a hotel. We wanted to return but wanted to stay in a waterfront property. From the minute we walked in you could see that the house was taken care of. There were no photo shop images of the house, the pictures represented the house the way it was. The house was very well stocked and we had a great time knowing that after a long day out we would be returning to the house.

Vacationing in Maine for 49 years...first time on our honeymoon and in recent years with our children and grandkids...we have finally found the most perfect vacation site...away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor but close enough for a visit plus the other amazing sites on Schoodic Pennisula and the Maine coast. The owners were exceptionally cordial and inviting. The home not only had all the essential for carefree vacationing but lots of "goodies" provided by the owners. The site is magnificant and the owners even occasionally allowed beautful animals to visit ...a doe with her fawn, a nesting Phoebe and a bald eagle!!! The gardens are charming and well-kept. We are now planning on returning there in 2015 for another family vacation. Aside from our honeymoon this was clearly our most wonderful vacation.

In love with this house!

We loved the house and our entire vacation! Would recommend the house without reservation - beautiful, clean, comfortable, and amazing views. Laurie and David were wonderful as well. Very close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Lots and lots to do!

This was the second year vacationing in Acadia with my wife and now 12 year old daughter and we were all very pleasantly surprised. Gorgeous views from the rear of the house and a lovely and well maintained garden in the front. A walk down to the yard brings you right to the water where you can see eagles flying by or feeding on a rock nearby. We liked the location which is central to everything we wanted (if you prefer to be off island, which is about 15 minutes away). The house is well maintained and impeccably clean on arrival, and the gift basket waiting for us filled with Maine treats was a nice touch. I'd recommend this property without any hesitation : )

Perfect Maine Retreat
July 6, 2013
Our group of 4 visited Maine for the first time seeking quiet and solitude in a New England coastal setting balanced with convenient access to the shopping of Bar Harbor and the natural beauty of Acadia National Park. This home surpassed our dreams, with waterfront views of the tidal cove - complete with magical visits by fireflies every evening and the moon illuminating the cove - and lovely flower gardens nestled amidst evergreens. The home itself was beautiful and spacious and the owners Laurie and David were so gracious in providing every imaginable amenity and supply. We have nothing but praise and appreciation and very highly recommend this rental!

Scenic, Comfortable and Relaxing
October 3, 2012
The Retreat at Frenchman Bay provided us a totally relaxing and sumptuous stay in Downeast Maine. The house, with its spectacular views and lovely gardens, was spotless, super- comfortable and equipped with every imaginable piece of kitchen equipment from crock pot and rice cooker to pizza pans, spices and table linens. It felt like home immediately, and we found it a breeze to cook in most nights for considerable savings, making good use of the organic herb garden. Laurie and David were excellent hosts, promptly answering our questions before and during our stay. Their comprehensive list of activities and points of interest was very helpful. The house was convenient to Acadia National Park with all its splendors, yet removed from touristy crowds. We enjoyed a sail out of Northeast Harbor, a fishing expedition on Vagabond, a lobster boat out of Southwest Harbor, Campobello Island, great moderately priced seafood dinners at Union River Lobster Pot in Ellsworth, and visits to the nearby Seal Farm goat farm, with its delicious artisan cheese. A favorite shopping spot was Rooster Brother in Ellsworth, for its amazing collection of beautiful kitchenware and gourmet specialties. Ellen Graham and Donald Moffitt (September 2012)

Incredibly beautiful house, property and views. Wonderfully peaceful, private and serene. It was everything we were looking for and more. So many nice touches in the house really made us feel at home! The very close proximity to Acadia, Mt. Desert Island, Schoodic Point, and Bar Harbor provided many choices for things to do when we weren't staying at the house to enjoy the views. A fantastic vacation - thanks Dave and Laurie!
Wonderful Downeast escape
August 14, 2012
My family of five stayed at this wonderful home last week. It is a beautiful, peaceful, new looking and very clean home as described in the listing. It is less than 30 minutes from Acadia National Park, even with summer traffic, and less than 15 minutes from Ellsworth shopping and grocery stores. We were treated to a Maine welcome basket and fresh flowers by the owners. The gardens are beautiful and much labor has been put into them. The owners stay next door and are available if you need them, but completely non-intrusive. We enjoyed a lobster boat ride that the owner captained. This is a great location, close to many of Maine's midcoast enjoyments, but as peaceful and quiet as can be. We could have stayed another week in this fantastic place and we thank Laurie and David for being such concerned and considerate hosts.
First-time Maine Vacation
August 12, 2012
Our family has rented many vacation homes throughout the United States over the past 15 years. We have had to rely on the pictures from the Internet and the owner's description. Many times we have been disappointed as the photos have not lived up to reality. Not in this case! In fact, we were more pleased that what we expected! My husband and I and our two children (14/11) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Laurie and David's home in Lamoine. Laurie and David are hands-on owners and it shows in every way: the spotlessly clean home, the beatiful decorations and gardens, the wonderfully comfortable beds and linens, and every amenity to make each person's stay special. We were greeted by a very thoughtful gift basket and fresh flowers. I can't remember the last time I've had such a peaceful and uninterrupted sleep. The beds were the BEST. The house was the cleanest house we have stayed in. We had everything we needed, and more. David is also the Captain of Quietside Cruises. We took an enjoyable cruise around the islands in Frenchman's Bay and were able to see seals, sea birds, and lobster fishing. A fun way to spend an early evening. Thanks Laurie and David for a great vacation home!
Quiet in the Chaos
August 1, 2012
My family loved our stay at the Frenchman's Bay Retreat! After the hubbub of Bar Harbor and all the other fun on Mt. Desert Island, it was wonderful to come home to a place that was quiet and so.. comfortable!! Probably the most lasting impression we'll keep is of the kayaking on mirror like water and seeing a bald eagle and babies!!
What you picture when you hear "Maine"
June 21, 2012
A lovely house tucked away in the woods with a beautiful waterfront view behind the house. If you're looking to get away, this is your spot. Laurie and David were lovely hosts, we were even welcomed with a basket full of local goodies. Everything was clean, organized, and easy to locate. There is also a wonderful garden in the front. A colorful display of flowers, fresh herbs, and eclectic yard decor. This place is great inside and out. We will be visiting again!

From the moment that I saw this property on the internet, I knew I had to visit it. The reviews were great and the pictures spoke a thousand words. We were most definitely not dissapointed. I love nature and it's stillness and we were surrounded by trees, flowers and the most gorgeous view...truly amazing. I woke up one morning to two deer right in the gardens. The owners were so friendly and hospitable...they could not do enough to make our stay a wonderful and pleasant experience. The most noticeable thing to us was the feeling of being home...we felt like it was our home...how incredible is that! The attention to detail made us feel we were "home". The property has spectacular views from almost every room and the master bedroom is awesome....waking up in the morning and seeing the sunrise was truly beautiful. It felt like we were living inside a postcard. We walked down to the ocean and it was so quiet and pristine....truly a place of peace. We went to Mount Desert Island on a daily basis and felt it was a short drive. If you like peace and quiet and being away from the crowd, you will love this property. It was great to spend the day sightseeing, shopping, etc. and coming home early enough to enjoy this beautiful place. What a wonderful experience.
July 11, 2011
We just spent a week with our 16 year old in this home, and the reviews were totally accurate. We loved that our teen had the same views as we did, but in a room with a door given that the second floor of this home is an amazing Master loft suite, with views of the bay from the shower... We biked all the roads in the neighborhood, swam in the local clear water, pristine pond. We went over to the Schoonic Peninsula, and to the quiet side of Mt Desert, to Pretty Marsh for warmer ocean water than anywhere else we found. Finally, we did an overnight in Bar Harbor and biked and climbed a bit on Mt Desert, went out to dinner. We recommend a week in this house to just sit still and take it in. The setting is so peaceful and the fireflies each night were mesmerizing so be sure not to get so tired you can't stay up long enough to see them. Truly Contented Vacationers
Heaven on Earth
January 1, 2011
Our family, including 4 children from toddler to teen, fell in love with this beautiful, immaculate home and property in June. The attention to detail in the structure of the home, the gorgeous gardens, breathtaking view and amazing hospitality of the owners made it difficult for us to leave on the final day of our vacation. We vowed to return and are now planning on it this year. The entrance to Acadia Park is not far away. If you want to sight see and then, retreat to a quiet spot - this is the place for you. The owners truly brought nature inside. The decor and even the granite kitchen counter tops made us feel like we were surrounded by God's artistry. This is our favorite vacation rental property.
The Wind & Spirit Tour 2010
December 10, 2010
On August 6, 2010 2 couples with 2 Harley's in tow arrived at this destination on Frenchmen's Bay in search of a much needed vacation from life's stress and that's just what we encountered. We love the outdoors, water, water sports and hate the frenzie of tourists and big cities so 68 Pasture Way was an amazing gift for us from which to launch exploration into those areas but return to a sanctuary that elicited a sense of comfort, good taste and serenity. Laurie and David were the perfect hosts in abstentia. Available as needed but totally unintrussive. This proerty is lanscaped to compliment the natural surrounding with spectacular views, was very clean, totally stocked and accomodating in every way. It epitomizes the mantra of Maine. It was truly the way life should be! We'd encourage anyone to choose this property and we will definately return. "The Wind and Spirit Gang"

Oh My Goodness!
October 23, 2010
My husband, mom, dad, and I just returned from this wonderful "home away from home". When I first walked in, I couldn't stop saying "Oh My Goodness!". Thanks to Laurie and David for sharing this great vacation home. Besides the home being beautiful, comfy, and immaculate, the view was out of this world. We awoke every morning to a beautiful sunrise and then enjoyed the sunsets in the evening. I really just can not say enough about our stay except that is was truly wonderful.

Awesome Vacation Home
September 22, 2010
We just returned from our week long vacation and we couldn't be happier. We rented the home as a birthday gift for my brother (who turned 50) and his wife. Given that the home had three queen size beds we also invited our parents along for the week. The six of us raved all week about how amazing this home is. The view is perfect and changes throughout the day. David and Laurie surprised us with a large basket of goodies and you really only need to bring you cloths & toothbrush as they have thought of everything. We picked apples from a tree down by the water and made the best apple crumb pie. We also frequently saw deer in the backyard. The master suite upstairs was perfect with an oversize jetted tub and two shower heads in the stand alone shower. We never wanted to leave the house. You will not be disappointed with this property. Thank you David and Laurie for a fantastic vacation.

We've stayed in a lot of rental homes and this one ranks near or at the top. Delightful and comfortable decor; nice kitchen with everything you need to cook; nice grill to cook out; beautiful view of the bay; close to both Mount Desert Island and Ellsworth. We loved spending time on the deck watching the stars come out at night. No complaints here! Five star rating.

Staying at David and Laurie’s retreat was a pleasant surprise. A lot of online ads tend to embellish positive characteristics, leading to some disappointment when the property is viewed in-person. Not the Frenchman Bay retreat! The online pictures and descriptions do not due justice in fully describing this very wonderful house and all of the wonderful amenities that made us feel like we staying somewhere that was better than home. We stayed with our parents who are gourmet cooks and they were pleasantly surprised at the cookware that was available in this fully stocked kitchen. David and Laurie left no detail to chance. We never had to worry about running out of any basic toiletry, laundry detergent or basic cooking staples such as flour, sugar, oil, etc. The welcome basket was also a very nice and classy touch. The yard backs into Frenchman Bay and provided our kids (age 11 and 13) with plenty of areas to explore. They enjoyed walking to the islands left uncovered by the low tide and we made good use of the shower hose to clean them off before coming into the house! The sunrises at Frenchman bay are spectacular and the great thing is that you don’t need to leave your bed to see it! The only negative: We didn’t see a moose! :) I would highly recommend David and Laurie’s retreat for those looking to have a relaxing time in a very scenically located house with every amenity that you could need!
What a House!
July 28, 2010
Just spent a week at this wonderful home. We were thrilled to see how clean and beautifully decorated it is. We were welcomed with fresh flowers and a big basket filled with Maine related goodies. The bathrooms even had little soaps, lotions, and shampoos. The house has everything needed for a great stay. The view is incredible. Not many places can you lift your head off of your pillow and see the sunrise on the ocean. Lots to do in the area. Not too far from MDI, Acadia, and Schoodic area. We would definitely stay here again if we go back to Maine.

A Peaceful Beauty
July 19, 2010
When we first arrived, my husband went into the house while I was still getting things from the car. He came back and out and told me I needed to come in right away. I asked if everything was alright, wondering... But he quickly replied that not only was it alright, but that the house was amazing and I just had to see it! We all agreed that the house was simply lovely, with every room filled with the beauty of the outdoors. We found this Maine vacation retreat so peaceful, private, and relaxing. The views were magnificient, the hospitality superb, and the home immaculate! The house was stocked with everything we needed. We just loved how clean everything was. It was a wonderful place to hang out and relax with family and a large part of everything wonderful about our vacation.

We LOVED this place!!! The upper loft bedroom was quite the romantic getaway. We awoke every morning to a beautiful sunrise which you could see even as you showered. And we were greeted with a basket of goodies on arrival which was very welcomed. This was our only house rental that supplied (nice)soaps, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. when you fly in this is very appreciated. Great location to escape the rat-race of Bar Harbor and the outlet malls. Pam (Georgia)

We really enjoyed staying at this property. The house is beautifully decorated on the inside and is very clean. The view of the bay from the house is wonderful. There is a path down to the bay that makes it even more lovely. We highly recommend this house as a family vacation getaway!

This is the perfect place to get away from the city life and career! The web site photos and description seemed almost too good to be true but they were absolutly perfectly correct. The location is perfect for exploring and sight seeing and within an easy drive to Bar Harbor and many other great locations. The house is absolutly beautifula nd everything you could possible need is there in the house, including a lobster pot! The owners have not overlooked anything in the little spot of paradise. It is worth the trip and stay just to see the sun rise on a high tide morning. I highly recommend.
While we were excited by the photos I had to admit some concern that "it can't be that good". We were absolutely thrilled by how well the house was furnished and cleaned. I was hesitant to get the BBQ grill dirty. Everything was in great condition and beyond our expectations. Anything we could possibly need was available. The master bedroom was really special. It was neat to see the sunrise above your toes in the morning. The downstairs rooms were simpler but met the needs of our elementary age kids just great. We all loved the location and were disappointed several times to not return "home" before dark to enjoy it more. When we first arrived in the dark, I was fearful of never finding the house but the directions were just fine. This location is a perfect getaway for a couple alone or with younger children."

"Perfect for Families
Laurie and Dave were perfect hosts, helpful in every way. The home was gorgous. Just as the pictures showed and house was so clean and comfortable!!! We had more than enough room to spread out, the kitchen had everything we could have possibly needed. The laundry came in very handy with our active vacation. The wildflowers and her gardens were so pretty. It is a special place in many ways. The views were amazing from every room... a true gem!!!!
Immediatley upon arrival my girls ran down to the stream, explored the ocean grass, tidal pools and found a birds nest on the ground and a crab. They were in in heaven. Kayaking was a breeze from the shores of raccon cove. We were able to see and hear many birds, including the eagles nest and explore the little beaches, granite shoreline and inlets on the cove. So fun.
Close enough to Acadia National park we would alternate between the park and staying at our home away from home on Frenchmans Bay. Bar Harbour was beautiful and we enjoyed the views, shops and resturants there.
Ellsworth was a quaint town. Resturants, groceries and shops were 15 minutes away. Finellis Pizza was outstanding!!!
Highly recommended!!! You will not be disappointed!!!!"

"It was clear early on that the homeowners were very warm and professional with their quick email responses about the home and friendly advice. Upon arrival, the external view of the house and bay were serene and more beautiful that we even imagined! What took our breath away was everything to follow. The house was remarkable... Perfect. This spot is great for a family or a romantic getaway. You won't want to go home! Acadia is only about a 20 minute drive, one of the most magnificent spots in the US! Bar Harbour is right around the corner, with lots of shopping, good eats, and fun things to do. You can't beat the convenience of the stores and 5 star restaurants 10 minutes away! whether it's the majestic outdoors you seek or a relaxing getaway, this place is ideal. Will definitely be back."
"This was our first visit to Maine and it was better than we ever imagined. The house was amazing and very clean. There was always something to do - kayaking, beachcombing, fishing (on your "doorstep") and exploring and cycling in Acadia National Park (about 20 minutes drive away). Our only regret is that we only booked for one week instead of two weeks. We have told friends about "Frenchman Bay Retreat" and they are all asking for more details. We will be back again, only next time it will be for longer!"

"We spent a week in this amazing home and it exceeded my expectations in every way. Waking up to views of the bay with the breeze rolling in through the many windows and enjoying evenings on the deck were just incredible. The house has everything you'd want for a vacation home from a well stocked, brand-new, kitchen and grill to a deck with ample outdoor seating to well-kept bedrooms and bathrooms. It is very secluded and private, but it is only a short drive Ellsworth in one direction and Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park in the other. The surrounding areas have something for everyone whether you're seeking amazing vistas or adventure (Acadia), shopping (Bar Harbor), or fine dining (Bar Harbor/Ellsworth). Laurie and David were very gracious hosts and made us feel at home right away. I'd highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a wonderful place to experience Maine and Acadia. I'll definitely come back."
"We spent a week and a half in this lovely house in its even more beautiful spot on Frenchman Bay. The description and pictures of both in the listing don't do them justice! The house seems spanking new and is spotless and well-supplied. The downstairs rooms and master bedroom provide great views and the entire house is airy and open. It was wonderful waking up to the quiet beauty of the Bay. The owners were unobtrusive but extremely pleasant and helpful, whether it involved tire repair or tourist information. While the house happily is a bit off the beaten track, it is very easy to access Acadia and Bar Harbor. We certainly would recommend this house and would return ourselves if again we visit the area."

"The web page was very accurate. The proprietors were awesome. They provided everything we needed and were a great source of information about the area. I would definitely recommend this to a friend. Don't miss a drive to Schoodic Point!"

"We had a wonderful vacation in Maine and this beautiful house was a great part of it. Super clean, awesome views of the bay and situated in the woods. It was as close to perfect as it gets. Great location near Acadia with endless things to do. The gentleman who delivered the kayaks was very nice. Thanks and we'll be back"
