We live in a historic city of the United States. "The city of firsts" of which was considered the Capital of the Colonies, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Residing in such an old city filled with historical sites, one tends to take for granted of the attractions that our home offers. Like a coastal inhabitant, who lives near the beach will take for granted what others may consider a valued commodity. This though in mind, the Zentz's do not give their Cottage due justice in their description. Unlike any other cabins/cottages in the price-range their cottage contains everything necessary for a comfortable stay, except food, of which Kathy suggests that you purchase before you arrive. The cottage is located in the Shenandoah Valley among dairy farms in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Getting lost in this area where speed limits and stop signs are merely suggestions, is an enjoyable experience except at night, for the old dirt roads that meander following the mountain creeks from dairy-farm to dairy-farm may be a little intimidating but during daylight, I couldn't help stopping to enjoy the scenery. The Zenzt's property is located adjacent to a Wildlife Management Area so those who enjoy trekking through virtually undisturbed forrest will not be disappointed. In Kathy's detailed map of the trails around and through their property will give you an idea of where you will go, but be careful. The trails are not blazed (marked) in order to navigate the forrest. The topography is very intense so that I would suggest that you prepare yourself, physically, before you venture out.Wildlife is abundant and visible throughout the entire property. Daily, early morning, and late evening, a family of deer make their rounds through the property feeding on the grass and securing the peaches growing in an orchard close to the brick porch. One can also see them emerging from the forrest through the bay-windows of the cottage's living area. There are two rabbits that live on the property that are custom to people and often look for handouts from the Zentz's visitors. My daughter enjoyed the rabbits taking baby carrots from her hands. Finally, don't be intimidated by the proximately of the owner's home to their Guest Cottage. They offer you as much privacy that you may require and the Zentzes have a sixth sense of your needs.
