Moon Loon, Lakefront Cottage, Lake St. George

If you're looking for the perfect, peaceful vacation cottage on a pristine Maine lake, Moon Loon on Lake St. George, Liberty, is right for you. The owner is Colorado children's book author, illustrator, and literary agent, Sandy Ferguson Fuller, and her original picture book, MOON LOON, was inspired by this magical place. (FYI, there's another Moon Loon Cottage in Maine named after the book, but ours is the REAL THING!)

Enjoy swimming (private dock and float), kayaking, fishing, reading/relaxing on the upper porch or spacious lower deck, loon listening, bald eagle watching, astonishing sunsets, and so much more. Cozy, clean, comfortably furnished, with fully-equipped kitchen. Beds accomodate five...also a couch downstairs for an extra friend. WI-FI or High-speed internet access, landline and excellent cell phone reception (if you need to stay in touch with the outside world!), DVD player for movies, but no cable or dish TV network reception available. No washer/dryer or dishwasher. (Hope to have washer/dryer for 2011!) Sturdy stairs lead from upper parking area down to cottage to lakefront (also to upstairs bedrooms). Woodburning fireplace insert for leaf peepers or romantics!

What makes Lake St. George so special is its secluded, yet central location in mid-coast Maine, only 20 minutes from historic Belfast, 45 mins. from Augusta to west and Camden/Rockport to east, Damariscotta to south, and only 30 mins. south to Blueberry Pie at Moody's Diner and the awesome gourmet delights Morse's Deli! The lake is rated second in Maine for water quality--our lake association pays close attention to every boat at the public launch! You'll find a few casual local hangouts for dinner or take-out...and there's always pick-up groceries, pizza or movie rentals at the corner gas station! Fine dining is as close as Lincolnville or Damar, and great shopping/art/culture in Camden/Rockport! Fun day trips include north to Acadia and Bar Harbor, or south to Freeport, Boothbay, Pemaquid Beach, Monhegan Island, etc. The ocean isn't far at all, if you can drag yourself away from the lake!

And here's a tip: don't drive by Moses Sauerkraut (enroute to Moody's) without stopping...doesn't look like much from the outside, but a gourmet heaven within!
