Casa da Cotovia is named after the arab name "koutobia", which means minaret and was the name given to Principe Real during the Middle Ages.

This bright and spacious apartment rests in the heart of Principe Real, one of the noblest Lisbon quarters. From the small balcony in the living room you can see the Tagus River, when the colourful bougainvilleas are not showing their face... Go up to the building's terrace and you'll be awarded with one of the most beautiful views over Lisbon!

Within walking distance from the Botanical Garden, Praça do Principe Real, with its fair of organic products every saturday morning, the Science Museum, subway and buses, this is the perfect location to discover the grandeur of Lisbon.

North of Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcantara is the district of Principe Real, essentially an extention of Bairro Alto, with a pleasant square and shady garden. In the center of the square is a café and some exotic trees, including a hundred-year-old cedar that looks like a giant umbrella, all surrounded by colorful 19th century mansions.

At number 26 is Ribeiro da Cunha Palace, a pink and white building dating from 1877, whose architect wanted to create a romantic evocation of the Moorish world. It includes horseshoe arch windows, pyramidal spires, and circular, Oriental-style domes topped by pinnacles, now housing a university department.

This is also Lisbon's gay and lesbian district with several gay bars and clubs, and the area with the most antique shops and galleries, especially along Rua da Escola Politecnica and Rua Dom Pedro V. Going down Rua de São Marçal leads to another charming leafy square and garden, the Praça das Flores, right in the center of this peaceful district of colorful town houses.
