Description of the Londonderry vacation home rental

We built our "little" piece of heaven on family ground. We lovingly built this 1800 square foot home in the style of the old Irish cottages. The walls are rough finished and white washed. Inside the house it is open floor plan. There is a sunken living room with a beautifully handcrafted fireplace (by my dear brother in law!) from local stone. The stone fireplace wraps around the wall enclosing the old style, but modern, gas stove/range on the opposite side. The kitchen is large and modern, including dishwasher, microwave, large fridge/freezer, and all countertops are granite. The house has full laundry facilities. There is a lovely dining room off the kitchen with a very long dining table that could accommodate 10 people. The floors are reclaimed french oak. There is a large guest bathroom that includes a claw foot bathtub and shower. There are two smaller bedrooms. One has two twin beds and a large closet and dresser. The other bedroom has a queen size bed and also a closet and dresser. The master bedroom is a showplace. Large and elegant and very relaxing. There is a queen size bed, that is a very good quality bed. There is a sitting area in this room to cozy up in the oversized chair with a nice cup of tea and a good book. The master bedroom also has a walk-in closet, and a dresser. The master bathroom is something to behold!!! There is a large soaking bathtub in a shamrock shape, and a four foot long shower that is all green glass tiled. The vanity is handmade by a local craftsman and the sink is hand carved green granite. This home is a real treat!

Area Description

This home is in the Irish countryside, surrounded in green fields that have sheep, cows, and horses grazing. The house is approximately 30 minute walk from the local village of Greysteel. At this village is a gas station, convenience store and two pubs. There is a closer pub to our house, about 20 minute walk, that is frequented every day by the local farmers. It has been there for many many years and is quite charming with its turf burning fireplace.
My home is 9 miles from the beautiful historical city of Derry. There is also a local Derry airport that is 8 minutes drive from my house.
Belfast is a 45 minute car drive. This is a beautiful city, as well, and also has an international airport.
Dublin is a 2 hour car drive from my house, thanks to very new commuter highways that have recently been completed.
Our house is very private. The area is quiet. I have two neighbors that happen to be family, but we definetly have our own privacy.
The Giants Causeway and Bushmills Distillery are less than an hour away. County Donegal is but a half hours drive. Donegal Town is about an hour away.
Greysteel lies between two small towns: the town of Limavady and the town of Eglinton. There are many wonderful places to eat, including the award winning restaurant The Lime Tree in Limavady.
Cars are available for rental at Dublin Airport, Belfast International , and Derry City Airport.

Other Vacation Rental Amenities

Derry City offers many activities for families with children: There is a water park with skiing, tubing, canoeing. There is nightly Irish traditional music in Derry. Shopping is great in Derry, but there are also so many other places to shop including Coleraine, Limavady, and Belfast. Golf courses are plentiful. One of my favorite places to eat is at the Radisson Hotel/Golf/spa in Limavady.

Vacation Rental Policies

Payment Options: Cashier's Check, Money Order, Personal Check
Check Out: 2 p.m.
Required Stay: three day minimum
Deposits: An initial deposit of $450.00 in form of cashiers or certified check must be made at time of booking. This money will be applied towards total rent. No deposit will be returned if booking is cancelled 30 days or less of rental date. An additional deposit of $450.00 must be given at check-in to be held (not cashed) until check-out inspection and will be returned within 2 weeks of check out. This will be money held for unforeseen damages ot lost household items.
Other Fees: Optional services can be provided which include laundry service, housecleaning, and babysitting. Grocery shopping can also be arranged with advance notice. Additional utilities charge of $50.00/week between months November-March will be applied to cover additional heating needs.

This place was perfect for us: a beautiful home in a beautiful setting mixed with genuine Irish hospitality. In just three short days we felt like we'd become part of the neighborhood -- it was great. We could not have asked for a better base from which to explore the north of Ireland.
