Area Description

Lubec is the eastermost town in the US, in a little developed, low population coastal area known as DownEast Maine. The Lubec area, an oceanfront peninsula, experiences the first sunrise in America and was deemed "a nature photographer's paradise" in a 2001 segmment of the Today show. The cabin is located 15 minutes from the town. Lubec town connects by International bridge to Campobello Island, Canada (bring your passport after Jan 2008!) the site of the historic President Roosevelt summer home, an internationally visited park. Numerous beaches, whale watches, picturesque lighthouses and small fishing villages make up the rest of Canmpobello Island. The Lubec area is for nature lovers, hiking, bird watching and sea kayaking being the most popular summer and fall activities. Sea birds, ducks, eagles and seals can also be seen frequently on the Lubec shoreline. Nearby Quoddy Head Park, with miles of spectacular hiking trails and varied ecosystems including a bog walk, has one of the most photographed lighthouses in the USA.
