My husband and I recently enjoyed a wonderful few days at this lovely cabin. Rain or shine, it's a great place to escape from it all and relax! We'll definitely be back. Thanks for the hospitality Grant! :)

This adorable house hand built by grant himself, just radiates tranquility and comfort. My husband and I had a wonderful time at the house using the woodfire stove hot tub and playing in the woods behind the house with our dogs. I highly recommend staying here.. grant is just great!

Oh what a great getaway! Grant was a perfect host. The cabin is beautiful and the hot tub is dreamy. Grant gave us some very helpful suggestions of island sights and hiking trails. As enthusiastic as we were, the cabin was just way too cozy to leave! Will definitely be back.
February 9, 2012
Grant was so accommodating in every way possible - had the place warmed up for us with his adorable wood burning stove, the hot tub was heated with fire - everything felt woodsy and relaxing. So quiet, you can't see your neighbors! We did a bonfire on the nearby beach, had amazing night in the hot tub under the stars, read by the wood stove and basked in the quiet and beautiful mornings. It was an amazing vacation and we are recommending to all our friends!

Loved the laid back ambience. Simple pleasures ie. wood fireplace & hot tub, claw foot bath, cozy down duvets. Setting was beautiful high on a wooded hillside with water & Bellingham views. Stayed 3 nights but could have stayed longer - so soothing. Kitchen could have used a little more polish but everything one needed to make home cooked meals was there. Grant was a "host with the most" - very accomodating. Charming atmosphere.

A lovely place with lots of character and warmth. Short, charming ferry ride to get to the island. Grant was at the chalet to greet us and let us know how things work; his enthusiasm for the place is fantastic. He had lit all the fires, including the outdoor fireplace for us. The woodstove kept the place cozy-warm and we also fed the hot tub fire to keep it sweltering. The log bed in the master bedroom is lovely; nice water views from upstairs and down. There are some cool touches like the tin ceiling in the living room/dining room and clawfoot tub in the upstairs bathroom. Perfect romantic getaway spot. One wish: glass cups and wineglasses as there were only plastic, and a thermometer in the hot tub. We used the sightseeing sheet Grant provided to check out some spots on the island. There are some neat beaches (yes, even in the winter), one with sandstone, another with funky fishing shacks and paraphernalia. Note that the local cafe/pub, the Beach Store Cafe, is open only a few days per week, so if you're there for a short stay and want to check it out, find out the hours. Townspeople are friendly. . Overall - loved it!

My fiance and our dog Chelsey had an amazing time. Loved the hot tub and the beautiful wood stove. Went down to the beach to enjoy the sunset and enjoyed the sunrise from the bed room. Seen lots of deer aswell :-) We will definately come back.

I'd like to share an email I recently wrote to Grant, the owner of Waterview Chalet in the Woods. Hello Grant, my name is Barbara Evans. Last year on Oct 15th, I rented your cabin with my (then) very new boyfriend. I admit that we fell deeply in love there, and had the most memorable weekend imaginable. We have now been together for almost a year, and are so in love that we will be married soon. We would first like to thank you, and let you know that a weekend of true romance and new love that started in your lovely home, has since developed into our dreams come true. We are so happy, and think and speak fondly of your home on Lummi often. The second thing we are wondering is if it is available to rent the first week in Oct this year, to share the anniversary of the day we met one year earlier. It would mean a lot to us to secure a reservation to spend our anniversary where we first fell in love. Please advise, and we will happily go about the reservation process. Thank you so very much, we appreciate everything, and can't wait to meet you again and thank you in person! Barbara and Miguel

On the inside this house is cozy and quaint; and outside, the wooded mountainside setting is ideal for humans and dogs. If you like stoking fires you will be in heaven. You can have fires inside and out and even the hottob is fire-heated. The island is think with flora and fauna. We saw deer and racoon families within our first hours. Grant, the landlord will give you great tips for your optimal stay. Parents, kids and dogs will love the place.

This was a fun, eclectic cabin nestled nicely in the woods! We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen with great views of the water. The wood stove heated up the house really nicely. Our dogs thoroughly enjoyed running in the woods behind the house. We had a fun night on the patio with a bonfire and smores! The owner Grant is a very nice, friendly gentleman who has done a good job fixing up the cabin. The only downside is not much sun because of tree coverage. Overall a great place at a good price!

I booked this as a place to get away for 3 days over my wife's birthday. Absolutely exceeded our expectations. This is a terrific property with everything you need. Wonderful views, supremely restful, quiet and a great place to recharge. Already booking a return for later this summer.

This Chalet was enchanting, We stayed for 3 Perfect days, we were greeted by Grant, who was seriously so kind and charming, he is the owner and quite a great host. He gave us instruction about the Chalet, showed us where everything was located, and all that you need is there in the Chalet, It is absolutely a wonderful place to stay. The view is breathtaking, the Chalet has so much personality, we did NOT want to leave. We made so many wonderful memories. We will go back many times. Thank you Grant! Mark and J.

We stayed at this cozy, rustic cabin for 3 nights, and wished we could stay longer! We had our two little boys and our older dog. We felt safe on the fenced-in property. We made good use of the fire pit every evening. The view from the deck, kitchen, living room and bedrooms is beautiful! Grant walked us through a list of things to do and see on the island, including Frank's Beach--we went there every day. It's beautiful, quiet and the view of the San Juan Islands is lovely. We did some fly fishing, and even saw a seal swimming by. Checking out the tide pools at low tide was also a hit. We pretty much fell in love with Lummi Island. It is nice and small, very easy to get to from Seattle, the tiny car ferry is adorable, and the people are very nice. We'll probably be back.

Fun and funky cabin. Great touches like a cool tin ceiling and a clawfoot bathtub made this place special. It has everything you need. It is a great place for dogs to come, with a gaited property.

We came to the area because our son had a sudden health problem. This is not the way you want to start a vacation but the house and surroundings were quiet, stress-reducing and wonderfully relaxing. It's a funky, fun and very comfortable place - and Grant was wonderful to deal with throughout. I hope to come back when we have less on our minds.

This place is awesome! SO peaceful and beautiful!! The entire shalet is clean and maitained well. It is thoughtfully equipped with all that you will need to stay warm, and cozy. The living room has rocking chairs, and there is a very spacious deck with grill. The view is BEAUTIFUL from the living room, and attached deck, and both the rooms have the beautiful view to wake up to. The kitchen had a booth like in a diner, and it had all spices, condiments, etc that you may need to cook meals. The entire place had the traditional charm to it. Picture perfect!!! Thank you Grant!

This is a great place to rent with many conveniences, great views of the water and mountains, good climbs straight up and down if you're into walking, and a great home style atmosphere. The bedrooms have great windows and beds! The views are incredible from every room.

My husband and I rented this home for a couples retreat, and had a wonderful time. It was *so quiet*, so peaceful and so beautiful. All we could hear were the birds! The home is delightfully put together, with Grant's thoughtfulness evident all over the home. This is just what we look for with a rental home: spotlessly clean, carefully arranged, extremely comfortable (great bed!) with heavenly view. Grant recommended a hike to the top of Lummi, that gave us a breathtaking view of the San Juans. Wow! The feeling on Lummi is so relaxed, friendly, and happy. We loved our retreat in the woods!

Our family (with 2 teenage boys) stayed at the "Waterview Chalet in the Woods" for a week in August 2010. There was plenty of room for the 4 of us, and we slept great because it is so quiet on the island! We spent the week whale watching, hiking, and kayaking, and just plain relaxing. I would recommend the chalet to anyone who doesn't want the bustle of a resort, but doesn't want to "rough it" either.

We came down to relax and take it easy and it is exactly what we were looking for. A great deck with a view, fire pit and hot tub. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepair our meals. We decided to get some local seafood and cook instead of going out for dinner ... a good choice. The rest of the cabin was comfortable and clean. Such a great location to get away from everything. We will be back. Thanks Grant.

The property was very clean and welcoming, and owner Grant was extremely helpful. Spacious home great for a couple, but could accommodate a larger group. Pet friendly! Would like a modern spa (rather than wood-fired type) for more spontaneous use. Lummi Island is quick and easy to get to.

Thanks Grant for sharing your romantic dream house with me. The Chalet in the Woods was a dream come true. Very nice and clean, better than some motels I have stayed at before. I was so amazed of the time you spent putting this Chalet in the Woods together, that pair of driftwood rockers by the fire was very very nice. The snow topped fir trees were worth picture taking. Forgot to mention that HOT TUB, enjoyed it even when it was cold outside and the snow falling. Never had such a great time in my life. Very relaxing, peaceful, and a dream on a island come true. It seemed to me that I was the only one on the island. I will be back, SOON. Thanks once again for a nice getaway.

I came for a week in November for a personal retreat. Grant very kindly met me and showed me how the systems worked - wood heating and kitchen. I had a nice quite week. The cabin is comfortable, private, and quite. It is not modern and has "character". I'll likely be back.

We really enjoyed our weekend at this property! The inside of the cabin was very homey and clean. The woodburning fireplace and hot tub were perfect as fall was setting in. We also took our bikes and spent a day biking around the island. The views were beautiful and the ride was only moderately difficult.

Very private cabin surrounded by trees. Loved the layout. Would have loved to have a more modern hot tub instead of a wood burning one. However, the cabin was clean, relaxing and comfortable. Loved the privacy most of all!

Nestled into this island getaway you will find deer walking nearby. Breathtaking sunrises that highlight Mt. Baker. Swimming lake nearby. Unmatched island charm. The amenities, provided supplies, and warm hospitality make it a must do holiday. Thanks, Grant.

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the Chalet and had one of the most relaxing vacations ever. What a beautiful spot to watch the water from. Enjoyed the hot tub, both decks, the outdoor fireplace, and to my delight there is also a claw foot tub in the second floor bath! Grant the owner is very accomadating and what a gem of a home for the price. We will definitely be back!

We were first attracted to this vacation listing as we have several (right now six Chihuahua's) and the Waterview Chalet in the Woods is listed as pet friendly. Grant, the owner is extremely co-operative. We found everything as listed. This chalet is not modern. It is rustic, but in my opinion, that bring a great appeal. It was our first opportunity to holiday with our Chi's and that we could do in a very relaxed and wonderful environment. Scenery is magnificent. Jeff

This beautifully conceived, constructed and finished all wood chalet is a place for experiencing peace. It is a perfect retreat site with quiet, bountiful views of beauty for meditation yet with all the amenities that allow a variety of lifestyles to be fully expressed in comfort. The fully equipped kitchen and all the overall details of this more-than-any-rental pleasure is a fine bargain and a meaningful investment in thoughtful leisure. There's even excellent high speed wireless internet for emergencies and fine cell phone reception. This pet friendly perfection was also enjoyed as much by our pampered pets as by us!

I needed a place to escape NYC and this is the perfect place. The house is beautiful and was everything I needed it to be. The view is fantastic and the hot tub was great plus Grant was excellent to work with.

This home is well kept, and very relaxing and cozy. We spent three quiet days -- the views from all the windows are wonderful, whether it's sunny or snowy. The island is quiet but lovely, with lots of deer, bird varieties and very nice people. Thanks for a great stay!

My husband and I enjoyed our seclusion and privacy...already planning to come back in January. This cabin provided us everything that we hoped for; plenty of rooms, nice big kitchen, bathrooms and a firewood hot tub etc...Thank you so much Grant, we are looking forward next month.

This lovely cabin is a Lummi Island gem. We stayed for 5 nights and had a lovely time in this cozy cabin. The views are lovely, from in the cabin or from the deck or patio or woodsey picnic area. Sitting in the rocking chairs by the wood stove is nice. The place is well set up inside and out. A full kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths. All of the comforts of home and more. Did I mention the fenced yard for the dog. The place is private and a wood fired hot tub makes for a romantic evening. Grant the owner is so helpful and is a great resource for things to do in the area.

My husband and I had a four day retreat here and loved the seclusion, the beautiful view of Mt. Baker and the cozy cottage. I spent most of the time snuggled on the day bed by the wood stove. We enjoyed the wood heated hot tub, but if you want instant gratification, it's probably not for you. For us it was an adventure. I wrote a more detailed review on my blog. You can email me if you want the link.

We spent 3 relaxing weeks here and loved it. The view of the water and Mt. Baker from the deck accompanied by the sound of the fountain can't be beat. On warmer days, my 10 year old and I enjoyed swimming in the lake at the top of the hill. It gave her a great chance to meet and play with other kids. Lots of nooks, crannies, and warmth here. Although there is a lovely fenced area for dogs, our 8 lb. Doggie could find ways under the fence when he set his mind to it.
