Description of the Lummi Island vacation home rental

This waterfront home on Hales Passage looks at majestic Mt. Baker and at night the beautiful lights of Bellingham Bay. Views are spectacular. As you walk into this home on the beach with hand-split cedar shakes, you see water everywhere. Bedrooms are furnished with American and English antique furnishings. There is ceramic tile throughout the main floor. A Jøtul stove provides special warmth on cold nights. Additionally, there is a 180 degree view up and down Hales Passage.

This home on the beach is tucked against a hillside and has private access to boating, swimming, and beach combing. Few homes on Lummi Island can boast the setting and the closeness to the beach which is steps away.

The main floor has a greatroom. There is the kitchen and bathroom. The greatroom opens to a deck and small yard with beautiful views of the beach, water, and Mt. Baker. There is also entry to the garage. Upstairs is the loft with bunk beds and two bedrooms, bathroom, and soaking tub off the master bedroom.

The main lawn is two feet off the beach and water. Gardens surround Grandma's "little cabin" now used as a storage shed.

Sunrise is walking distance from the ferry landing--about 1 mile by beach and 1-1/2 miles by road. A regular sight are the seagulls, herons, kingfishers, eagles, seals, sea otter, and deer. At low tide, you have access to an inviting sandy tide flat with clams and crab, tide pools and beach-rock inhabitants. It is a haven to relax, read a book, bike, hike; a great place for families.

A short 10-minute ferry ride takes you to rural Lummi Island--a small wooded Island. Lummi has a population of about 850 which probably doubles or triples in the summer months. Day trips can be made to Vancouver BC, Seattle or Mt Baker. You are 30 minutes from shopping in Bellingham, Lynden, and the Canadian border.

 Vacation at Sunrise Cabin, October 13, 2009

My husband and I rented the Sunrise Cabin along with my in-laws from Tucson, AZ. I think this was the most relaxing and enjoyable vacation we have ever had. Kayaking, bicycling, reading, cards, gourd art, wood carving, fresh pastries every morning, a view to die for and a beautifully decorated home to enjoy. Mel and Louise, the owners, were delightful. We are looking forward to our next visit this coming weekend!

What can I say? The setting is magnificent with seascapes, natural beauty, and abundant wildlife. Sunrise Cottage has everything you need for a vacation home, but most impressive are the windows that provide unsurpassed vistas to the North, East and South around the clock. If you like to relax or read, comb the beaches, explore Lummi Island, Watch for eagles and herons, walk the flats at minus low tides, search for crabs, roast marsh mellows, or just interact with family and friends, then this vacation spot is where you need to be! You and your kids will love it!! The owners, Mel and Louise, are very friendly and accommodating. It is evident they care about you and desire that you have a memorable vacation experience. Be sure to bring a camera.

 

 Best Rental Ever, June 5, 2009

This is the nicest rental property I've ever had. The house looks new, beautiful wooden walls, heated tile floors, luxurious bedding. The furnishings are very nice; not hand-me-downs, but purchased for the house including some great antiques. The kitchen is stocked with necessary items; sugar, salt, etc., and any utensil or pot you could need. The views are fantastic - water, mountains, eagles, birds galore. The Island is laid back. The garden is spectacular; I'm so jealous of the gorgeous flowers beds!! And to top it off, the owners are wonderful. I almost hate to write such a great review, I don't want this place to be booked forever, because we plan on going back as soon as we can. Thank you Louise and Mel, for providing such a lovely house for others to use.

Great hideaway. So peaceful with great views. We saw bald eagles everyday. Owners really take care of this place. The heated floors are a nice bonus on a cold damp evening. I would love to come back for crab season. Both crab and clams available out the back door.

our stay at the house was amazing...ALL we could have hoped for! it was secluded, gorgeous, peaceful, beautiful...all it was advertised to be. my daughter, my dog, and i have a wonderfully relaxing weekend hanging inside the warm and inviting home and spending time roaming the beach to our heart's content.
