horrible owner

September 29, 2012

I've stayed at this place twice, once with my kids some time ago, once with my boyfriend this week. Sadly, the last stay was very unpleasant. We'd had a great time in Shenandoah for a quick two night get away, running trails all over the National Park, enjoying all the lovely people hiking, and cooking simple meals at night. The day of our departure, my boyfriend was trying to dry some clothes, and it was taking longer than expected. We were still at the cabin at 11:25 (check out is at 11am) although everything had been packed up in the car since 10 or so. The owner came and immediately yelled at me for still being there. "I'm late today but if I had been here at 11:30, I would have been really mad!!" I was totally shocked. I think she then realized how abrasive she sounded, tried to back pedal, asked us if we'd had a nice stay. We left quickly. The next day I received an email, informing that she would be taking 50$ more of my money for "an excessive cleaning fee" because the house was especially messy. What to say? Unreasonable people do unreasonable things. All the dishes had been done, we'd brought our own sheets and towels, my boyfriend was sweeping continuously, we didn't use the hot tub or BBQ or downstairs bedroom. Yes, we inadvertently left the morning trash in the kitchen. Indeed, we are guilty of that, but we'd just emptied it the night before. She actually complained in her email that "games had been left out" because I had brought three boxes of games from the downstairs to the upstairs area (we didn't even open them). Listen, she can take our money if that's how she does business. I used to own a rental cabin, and it's not how I operated and not how I treat people in general. We'll stay elsewhere.

romantic weekend getaway

June 15, 2011

Our stay at Falling Leaf Cabin was great. It was very clean, nicely decorated. The hot tub was relaxing on the lower deck, and it felt pretty secluded. there were cabins in the area, but you couldn't see them due to the folliage and trees. We cooked out on the grill and sat on the back deck which has a glider and rocker. Lots of woods and private. Your typical stores like Walmart aren't far away and it's close to Luray Caverns. The kitchen is fully equipt with a nice fridge, microwave, coffee pot, toaster and range/oven. Dishes (modern), silverware are included. Good shower. Natural light filters in through skylights and windows. Nice!

Rustic Getaway

July 28, 2010

We stayed for 3 nights and wanted a Rustic Getaway. Falling Leaf Cabin was perfect. Although with the summer foliage you did not get a view. The river was wonderful and warm. Take chairs to sit on as the access is a mown property. Sit in the Spa and listen to cicadas and see the occasional bird fly by. A perfect peaceful getaway.

Peaceful and Relaxing

June 28, 2010

This little cabin is wonderful. VERY clean and comfy. Excellent soft queen beds. It was a quiet comfortable cabin in the woods. Two nice decks to sit out on, one upper level off back of cabin over looking woods and one at ground level with the hot tub. I just enjoyed sitting and reading. It was the perfect place for relaxing. exactly what I was looking for in a retreat. Owners are extremely nice. My dog loved the cabin. (didn't like the open stairs but since we slept in basement (very cool down there) this wasn't a problem.

Everything was great, peaceful and quiet. Only two recommendations change the shower faucet in the bathroom and put downstairs mattress upstairs.
