Sit around the large stone firepit, listening to the calls of 100 different birds. Free canoes sit nearby for your immediate use. Make sure to grab the oars and life jackets from the shed before heading out!
A full acre of open yard, from the house to the river, gives you plenty of space to setup your soccer game or volleyball net.
A 7-foot hot tub, from one of the top manufacturers in the business, is great for evening relaxation or morning soak. And while you soak, look out across the river and mountains.
On the deck, a large gas grill is waiting for your hot dogs, hamburgers and steaks. Want a more authentic outdoor grill? In the mood for roasting marshmallows or a late-night chat? We have just the thing. In the middle of the lawn is a stone campfire pit, over 6 feet in diameter. Find all the wood you need next to the shed, and pick up the lawn chairs from inside the shed.
In the shed, we've placed 4 mountain bikes for those days when you want to head down the road and check out nature one spin at a time. Be sure to grab the helmets too!
The cabin is also outfitted with the best technology has to offer. Satellite TV in every room with 200 channels of crystal-clear satellite service. FREE LONG DISTANCE phone calls. DVD and VCR player in every room. Free washer and dryer. Wireless HIGH SPEED INTERNET access, totally free.

Bear Meadows - Good Rental Property
July 14, 2014
We stayed at Bear Meadows last week (July 2014); we had 6 in our party. The house is exactly as displayed with the exception perhaps of the distance to the water which is about 250 yards (estimated). It would have been nice to be sitting 'right on the river', but it was still very nice and a good location on the Shenandoah. The walk through the yard to the water was easy - flat and no obstacles and it was dry - not marshy. The master bedroom bath is nice. The game room was a LOT of fun. House is very close to Luray, Walmart, Food Lion, and the best pizza place around - Anthony's next to Food Lion. Though the kitchen was a bit lacking in silverware, (no sharp knives and the peeler was useless, we kept running out of spoons (LOL), & the mixer was a nightmare, with the toaster a close second). We ended up donating some measuring cups and spoons, a fan for the game room (it could get a little warm at times), and a few other minor items such as an egg crate for the master bed to soften it a bit, which we hope others will enjoy. Steve helped us when we lost power during a very strong storm - thanks Steve! We enjoyed the hot tub and watching the fire flies dance at night - looked like a million little stars had fallen in the yard. We tubed through Shenandoah Outfitters which is very close by (30 minute drive), and rented two kayaks from them as well for the week - super easy and not too expensive. The canoes on the property were great and they were right next to the water. The lock is almost impossible to open, however, and we hope the owners will replace right away - what a struggle! We did drive the 1.5 hours to the Virginia Safari Park near Natural Bridge and we highly recommend it - worth the trip! All in all a nice little place to rent. It was clean for the most part, (the towels and sheets smelled heavily of cigarette smoke though it is a non-smoking facility), but easily remedied with a quick wash of those items. Nice having a washer and dryer! We saw many deer in the yard and lots of bunnies too. I do recommend this home to others, as we had a really nice vacation. The air conditioning worked great, by the way, and there were lots and lots of movies on site to watch in your down time - that was a bonus! Can't think of too much else to talk about. Thanks again!

Very clean, almost new location. Out of the ordinary for a cabin...actually, it is a double-wide manufactured house. Unlike the description, at least while the leaves are off the trees, it is very easy to see the surrounding neighbors...this was disappointing because our expectation was for complete privacy.

Bear Meadows review
November 25, 2011
We had an excellent time at the Bear Meadows cabin. The cabin had all the essentials for cooking, which was convenient. The location next to the river was beautiful and the area was secluded to make the trip personal. We loved the hot tub and fire pit and made sure we made use of both of these things. We also really liked that if had a pool table, foosball table, and table tennis because this allowed us games to play while hanging out at night.

it doesn't get any better than this. luxurious yet simple. secluded yet accessable. quiet yet full of joy. what more do we ask for?
