A Bittersweet Retreat is the perfect getaway for a couple, or couple's retreat! Bittersweet is perfect for a relaxing weekend or activity filled week. The Cottage is located close to everything that Page County and the Shenandoah Valley have to offer. Minutes from the world famous Luray Caverns and Shenandoah National Park/ Skyline Drive! Nightly and Weekly Rates available. Our 2 bedroom cottage offers comfortable amenities for up to 4 and features a kitchen with all the essentials, and a large bathroom with a jacuzzi tub for 2! Every detail is important in order make your stay enjoyable, comfortable, and unforgettable!
The only part that is bitter is leaving!
Area Information
You'll be close to the beautiful Luray Caverns, the Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park, the George Washington National Forest, the New Market Battlefield and the Luray Zoo! The area has many Antique and Gift shops, a Historic Downtown area that features the Luray-Hawksbill Greenway, that has walking and biking trails along the Hawksbill Creek. The area also offers activities like Horseback Riding, Hiking trails, Golf, Ski, and River adventures.
Within the area are also many Vineyards and Fine Restaurants!

Relaxation at its best!

We had the most restful and relaxing weekend at the cottage, Bittersweet Retreat. The hostess, Shar, was extremely kind and paid us exactly the right amount of attention. I'm a bit of a germaphobe so was extremely pleased with how absolutely spotless the cottage was. We are already planning our next trip to the Shanendoah's and will definately stay here again.

Relaxing Getaway !!

Shar greeted us very warmly and presented us with two slices of pumpkin pie !! The cottage is nicely furnished and equipped with all you need to cook dinner. We enjoyed our time at the cottage as well as a wonderful trip on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. Another terrific spot nearby is Shenandoah River State Park which is quite new also with great scenic views. Our beagles accompanied us on this trip which we enjoyed as well. We look forward to another trip to this very clean, cozy cottage. Great job, Shar !!

Relaxing weekend

This cottage was the perfect place to escape from our busy world. Deer at the back door, a multitude of birds, local attractions and a great hostess all combined for a memorable weekend. The cottage is well-equipped and the screened porch was a perfect place for the dogs to check out any outside activity.

Tiny place, clean, nice scenery, but bugs...

A bittersweet retreat is a very small, but nicely decorated and clean cottage with river view and mountains all around--a good size for a couple's retreat. The house is quite small but has everything you need for a weekend. The spiral staircase to the loft could be difficult for some people to navigate, so be aware of that (also the ceiling in the loft is at about 5'5" and slants downward; so don't plan on using that room if you 're very tall--and watch your head). The owner is extremely accommodating, helpful, and kind, and overall we had a nice stay. The weekend we visited they were having trouble with stink bugs--we saw several throughout our visit, so that was one downside. I alerted the owner and hopefully she's seeking a solution to keep them out of the house.

Hillary is correct the cottage is small, but I never advertized it a large, it is very comfortable for two as you can see in my other reviews. She had a very large dog that shed all over the cottage so it was a problem for me to get back to clean again, since there was hair all over even the bed. I have tried everything possible to correct the stink bug problem, but as I told Hillary they come in on your clothes or when you open the door. God is the only one I know who can fix the problem. I have a screened in porch, & a screen door. I do all I can to keep them out. Sorry!

My husband and I loved this little cottage. The place was so cozy and had elegant decor. The jacuzzi helped us unwind and the sound of the river and fireflies were relaxing! Shar, the owner, is a sweet hostess and we can't wait to return in the winter for another short vacation:)

Lovely Cottage with a Wonderful View!

My husband and I just stayed here for a four-night vacation. The cottage is perfect. The screened-in front porch was perfect to keep the bugs out while enjoying the great views of the river and the mountain right across the road. We also enjoyed the jacuzzi very much! One thing to note - we opted to stay in the smaller, full-size bed on the main floor because the stairs to the queen-size bed in the upstairs loft are a little tricky to climb - especially if you need come down them in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. Something for people who are less mobile to keep in mind. But overall, we loved the place and would recommend it.

I have always wanted to stay in the Shenandoah Valley! Shar's cozy cabin was just what I needed to get away and enjoy a truely beautiful, laid back area! The cottage was very tastefully decorated and comfortable! I loved waking up to a gorgeous river view and panorama of mountain splendor! The owner, Shar, was very friendly and accomodating , offering dining suggestions and information about the area! She made you feel at home! I look foreward to a return visit to this cozy little haven! I certainly would recommend a stay at Bittersweet Retreat to anyone who wants to "get away from it all" and relax !Shar takes great pride in her property and it most definitly is reflected in this lovely cottage! I want to thank her for a great time!

A friend and I stayed at the Bittersweet Retreat midweek in February for a much needed escape from the daily grind. We were hoping for a beautiful cottage to clear our heads; we got so much more than we expected! The cottage was amazing and way more beautiful than anticipated and the view was breathtaking. There were so many special touches and plush amenities that we felt like we were in a luxury hotel all to ourselves. Even better, the cottage owner was a perfect host. She treated us like old friends and offered to remain aloof if desired or as intimate as a bed & breakfast owner. Both my friend and I fully intend to visit the location again and refer our friends and family to visit as well. This is a place not to miss.

An Enjoyable Getaway

My husband and I had a fantastic weekend at the Bittersweet Retreat. The atmosphere is fresh and relaxing with beautiful scenery all around. The house was cozy and comfortable for the two of us. It may have been a bit cramped with any more people. We especially enjoyed meals on the screened in porch. The one thing we couldn't quite figure out was how to get down to and enjoy the river which is only a hundred yards away. It seemed it was only private access. Otherwise we had a great time; we also enjoyed Luray Caverns, only 15 minutes away.
