Memorial Weekend

May 29, 2014

The house was very nice and clean. If you're looking for a rustic cabin experience this is not the place. It is a traditional home on the water. The house came with everything you could possibly need to enjoy time away from your own home. There were plenty of games provided which made it even more enjoyable for the kids. The only downfall of our stay were the neighbors. There were NO boundaries when it came to the property. The neighbors kids and dogs were constantly running free on the property WITHOUT parents anywhere in sight. Many times we had to tell the kids to leave as they were starting fights with our children while they were trying to play. The neighbor's dog was constantly being chanced away and at one point grabbed our trash bag and pulled it all over the yard (which we had to clean). He also had no problem doing "his business" in the middle of the volleyball area; where our kids were playing. It seems the houses on either side of this home belong to the same family so this place (which sits in the middle) is free game to those family members. The house itself was great. It was spacious, clean, and provided many things for entertainment. We would not go back there because of the neighbors. It was an unnecessary hassle to deal with when we were trying to have a relaxing weekend away from home. All in all we had a good trip!

We will try again

December 2, 2011

Unfortunately a fire on the property necessitated the owners' cancellation of our plans. They immediately refunded our money. We are so very sorry for damage to their property and hope repairs can be made satisfactory to them. That things did not work out had nothing to do with the owners' upkeep or responsibility in this situation.

Property was clean and just as described. Tons of activities...truly something for everyone. My favorite spot was the second floor balcony on a rocking chair watching the sunset. Already planning on making reservations for next year!

Our family needed this much needed relaxing vacation!! There is so much to do in the area. I had spent time on the internet before our vacation started on things to do and menus for most of the local resturants. Our pets loved the freedom. We hated that it hadn't rained for awhile & the rivers was done. Our grandson loved the tub-he said he could go swimming. We had a camp fire every evening & than watched DVD'S. Our son hated not being connected to the internet but he & his wife went to Mc D's for that. My husband & I always plan to stay a few days longer on vacation after the boys & their family leaves it gives us a chance to clean up & we only had the one set of linens to do. Thank you for sharing you home with us. We couldn't have had more pleasant host or a better place to fit our needs. We were sorry to see that previous guests hadn't taken care of the bikes--just left them out to rust. There is something for the whole family--I am always prepared & take a bag of books. We never had the problem of someone waiting on a bathroom. Our grandson took grandpa a ride in the boat at the pond. We were all pleased with everything overall. Loved the kitchen & the downstairs bathroom.

What you see in the pictures is not what you get

July 25, 2011

The website pictures are not what you get. There are many details that can't be seen in the pictures. We came here to celebrate our anniversary. We were a little leery when we drove up we saw an exercise trampoline laying in the yard and the landscaping was overgrown around the house. When we entered the house, it looked as if it had not been cleaned. There was a used bar soap in the shower and the bed spread in the bedroom had a stain on it. Most of the furniture had stains too. I called the owner and she called the cleaning girl. Apparently the house had been cleaned right before we got there. The smoke detectors did not have batteries so the cleaning girl came out that night with batteries. I also asked the owner if there was A/C. She said there was not and to just open the windows. I told her there were no screens. I asked "How do we keep the bugs out?" She replied, "Don't turn on the lights and they won't come in." We could not open the windows because it rained the nights we were there. So my wife and I ending up sleeping downstairs since it was cooler than the upstairs. It was not comfortable. So we left a day early. Other CONS: The side porch and balcony had peeling paint and soggy carpet. The grill had missing parts and looked like it had never been cleaned. Several layers of grease and grime. One of the upstairs doors to the balcony didn't lock. There were water stains on the ceiling in the living room. Dust hanging from the ceiling fans and the ceilings. You have to wash the linens and fold them before you leave. This is an inconvenience when you are trying to leave. Overall it seems as if the property and house have been neglected since the remodel.

June/July 4-day stay at Mountain View

July 16, 2011

We enjoyed our stay and found the place clean, generally. Access worked well, and the quality of the accommodations for the price was really good. The kitchen was well stocked, the AC worked well, and the privacy made it a wonderfully "alone" area. Our family would like to make a few suggestions to the owner. First, the garbage situation is a problem. There is no large dumpster anywhere, and though we tied it up high outside, the racoons made a mess for us to clean up. When we tried to take it to the "recycle" spot on Sunday, it was closed, so we had to leave several bags outside the front door. Also, the first day, the lawn was grown up making outside games hard. A couple mowed the inner circle the next day and said they would do the rest, but they never did. The house cleaner arrived the morning of our last full day there and wondered why we had not checked out at 10:00. The morning we left, we got up early (7:00) to start the laundry to comply with leaving clean linens on the beds. But the water system is so slow that we were unable to complete the laundry by 10:00 and had to leave a load for the housecleaner to do. We suggest making checkout at 12:00 due to the need for several hours of washing and drying using the slow well pump system. (Also, FYI --the dining table is not secure and could easily fall off the pedestal.) However, in spite of these things, we had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the place. (We could not find river "access" on the property, perhaps it was too grown up,but easily walked the 2 miles on the road down to the river.) With a few minor changes by the owner, this can be a 5-star vacation rental.

Mountainview Farmhouse

July 13, 2011

We enjoyed our stay at the farmhouse. We did have a few issues, (high grass when we arrived, lots of bugs - of course, it is a rural retreat and we were there in July). The grass was taken care of when the owner was told. There is not a ton to do, but there is enough to keep busy if you want, and plenty of room to relax if not. Overall, we had a good time.

Beautiful home and area but...

June 20, 2011

We loved the home and the area. Our first night however, the main bedroom was infested with lots of flying bugs ! The door to the balcony has a big enough opening where I guess the bugs come in. Two of the 4 bedrooms we could not sleep in for the first 2 nights. Also we were not aware that we had to wash the linens and towels otherwise you get charged. We would of brought our own sheets and towels had we known. It made our last morning there a work morning. Trash, if you leave it behind you also get charged. My 3 year old loved the pond and the little boat. The playground had tall grass all around but he still managed to play, although we all left with ticks ! Dogs LOVED the freedom of the land. Very quiet and relaxing, the river is a bit of a hike but a nice walk.

OK for the price

November 29, 2010

The house was OK for the money because it is very reasonably priced and the owner was very helpful/responsive. Photos make house look really nice but they don't reflect the true condition of the home & furnishings. The kitchen was beautiful with modern appliances, but beyond that everything else was old. The downstairs shower didn't work so really only 2 bathrooms. There were stink bugs in one room (not just a few - there were hundreds!) so nobody would sleep in that room. There is no satellite so no TV access, but it said there was a DVD player but that didn't work - only VHS but we didn't bring any of those. The furnishings on the decks are very dirty and old - not usable at all. The grill was there but the gas tank didn't work. The land and views are beautiful. It was very quiet out there and very close to Luray for anything we needed. Overall, it was great to get-away and the house has a lot of potential. If you want a bargain and don't mind the furnishings & condition of the house, then this would work well for you.
