Come and enjoy your own private rustic cabin that sits on the banks of a crystal clear spring fed pond. 15 steps down to waters edge, take a canoe, paddle boat or kayak ride out for a calming naturalistic experience. Fishing(twice annually stocked pond) and swimming can also be rewarding too. Wind down in front of an open pit campfire and toast yourself a marshmellow or hotdog for an evening snack.

This cabin is fully equipped with many amenities that exceed above and beyond most seasonal rentals. Full kitchen w/open concept Dining Room/Living Room, Bathroom with hot water Shower stall, two private Bedrooms. Sleeping accomodations for up to 7 or more people. Newly renovated windows w/ screens across the waterfront viewing & revealing beautiful Barkers Pond.

This rustic cabin makes you feel a world away from every day stresses and allows you to feel close to the outdoors, giving you a camp-like feeling in Maine's woods. However, you are so close to Maine's coastline if you wish to explore all that Souhtern Maine has to offer. We have a handy local attractions guide listing all the popular tourist sites.

Basically pack your overnight bag and plan on enjoying a time you and your special ones will cherish for a lifetime.
We have an additional optional package that allows you to arrive and immediately relax and enjoy all that this cabin and the pond has to offer. We offer a unique service:Upon your request we willset up a pre-stocked refrigerator. Simply check-off food items on list provided to you. If you would like to have your refrigerator pre-stocked prior to your arrival. We will fax-or/e-mail your grocery bill to you and request 50% deposit on food items ordered and balance due paid 30 days prior to check-in. Be sure to try our very own name-brand hotdogs "Shields Provisions". We own our own Meat Market in town, pricing is competitive and there's no comparision to the quality of our food. FREE DELIVERY, there are no hidden charges other than the exact cost of food. It's a convenience that many enjoy.

The cabin is tucked in a quiet & peaceful "On Golden Pond like setting." However, southern maine has many very busy popular tourist sites. Southern Maine's beautiful coastline runs north and south of your cozy cabin. Take route 35 and head 10 miles south and find yourself in downtown Kennebunk. From here you could head south and connect with Route 1 and visit Wells, Ogunquit, Kittery and York, Maine.-OR- Take Route 35 a little bit further and you will be in the heart of World Famous Kennebunkport. All of these towns are considered the best of Southern Maine, known for the best Seafood Restaurants and a unique shopping village. Not to mention the beaches are simply breathtaking. You may choose to take a day trip to follow the beautiful northern coastline and only travelling about one hour north find yourself in Freeport, Maine, home of the well known LL Bean store, along with an array of other well known popular outlet stores. Also, (15-25 mins)in the immediate area there are also several amusement/water parks and aniaml kingdoms. This cabin was in a great location, everything from shopping to the ocean was just a short drive away yet you felt miles away in the mountains! The deck overlooking the pond was a great place to have you coffee in the morning and just take in the quiet. Best of all we were able to bring Trooper, our bullmastiff, and he had a great time as well! Thank you Michelle and Dean We'll be back! Denise, Bill and Trooper

I stayed for part of one week with friends and enjoyed the vacation very much. we BBQed outside each night and enjoyed using the small fire pit for a mini 'campfire' at night. the cabin was rustic but was equipped with linens, pillows, lots of kitchen items, towels, and homey touches. the neighbor pets were especially entertaining. a great getaway!

A great vacation! Dean and Michelle Shields host one of the finest get-a-way cabins in all of Maine. It was rustic and quaint and yet had all the amenities you could possibly want and more! A serene lake, kayaks, canoes, fire pit, slide into the lake, deck over the water, wood stove for chilly nites, beautiful sunsets, fishing, church nearby: Mix all the above together and you have a wonderful vacation! Close to shopping too so a rainy day is okay. A really great extra is that you can order your meat and meal items from the Shields - their store only sells the finest cuts of meat. For our first "extended family" vacation, we could not have asked for more. The Shields were the best hosts and could not have been more accommodating. The pond is quaint and just the right size if you want to get away yet enjoy the daily canoe or kayak ride. A relaxing walk can take you all the way around the pond or a nice fire can keep you visiting into the night. The ocean is only a short drive as are shopping outlets and other amusements. Amenities abound, activities keep children and adults entertained, and being able to have your pet(s) with you helps you to relax. Our thumbs up and strong recommendation for Barker's Pond.

Myself and another family rented this cabin for vacation and we had a wonderful time. The description of the cabin was very true and it had everything we needed. There was plenty of space for sleeping. There was tons to do despite the rain. We had an awesome time. Lots to keep busy if you want. Fishing, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boating, swimming, bbq, campfire. Hammock was great for when you wanted NOTHING to do. Also a great vaca for our dog... swimming, walks around the pond and she made friends with the owner's dogs. The owners, Dean & Michelle Shields were gracious hosts who were very helpful and cared that we had a great time. We would definitely repeat this vacation next year.

We enjoyed a one week stay at this Maine cabin and had a terrific time. The area and pond is so peaceful to sit back and relax. The accomodations were great inside and out. We traveled from Florida to Maine for a quiet, scenic, peaceful vacation. The amenties listed for this rental were exactly what we were looking for (and exceeded our expectations). We all enjoyed canoeing, fishing, swimming, volleyball and horseshoes. Roasting marshmallows in the evening was the perfect touch to ending a great day.
