Our Inside Guide to the Local Area - Just send us an inquiry and I’ll provide an Inside Guide to dining, attractions and area activities.

Maggie Valley is filled with a rich mountain history and one of a kind shops and restaurants. Located on the fringe of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and two national forests, outdoor pursuits like hiking, camping, biking, whitewater rafting and horseback riding are favorites. You can also head over to the Cataloochee Valley area of the park and see the elk, which have been successfully reintroduced into the park. The newly re-opened Ghost Town is about a five minute ride away.

There are plenty of attractions and activities no matter the season. You can hop on the Blue Ridge Parkway and take in the magnificent vistas as you drive through miles and miles of scenic views. After spending the day hiking or rafting, Maggie Valley welcomes you for a restful evening on the town for a night of good food, music and dancing.

Fall is a wonderful time to enjoy the outdoors either as a leaf looker exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway or hiking to a commanding view in Pisgah National Forest. When the temperatures drop, Cataloochee Ski Area (entrance is only two miles away) begins churning out the snow and grooming the slopes. Cataloochee consistently has one of the longest-running ski seasons in the Southeast, and features a variety of trails, from steep black diamonds to easy runs for beginners. Snowboarders can carve the slopes or try the latest tricks at the terrain park.

For the kids, try miniature golf or snow tubing, go-cart racing, or snowboarding. Maggie Valley is also a great central location for mountain biking and road biking – head over to Tsali for a mountain biking day trip. The Blue Ridge Parkway is ideal for motorcyclists and driving tours, with spectacular views of the rolling mountains.

Also nearby is Waynesville is a vibrant, friendly small town nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with magnificent mountain views of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Fine shops, galleries, cafés & restaurants are all within walking distance of Main Street's tree lined brick sidewalks. Historic buildings, relaxing benches, public art & welcoming folks make Waynesville a thoroughly enjoyable place to live & visit. Numerous popular events, parades & festivals occur throughout the year. The heart of Appalachian culture and heritage, Waynesville hosts Folkmoot USA, North Carolina's official international music and dance festival annually.

Waynesville is home to Haywood Arts Regional Theater, an award winning theater, and The Museum of North Carolina Handicrafts at the historic Shelton House; a general store, book store, bakery, chocolate shop, brew pub, Christmas shop, clothing, jewelry and furniture stores, mountain trout, mountain golf, mountain music & dance, clean air, clean water, cool summers, dramatic autumns, mild winters, lush springtime, and Southern hospitality. Waynesville is the largest town in Western North Carolina west of Asheville.

Practical Area Information

Snowfall is unpredictable, but if you’re in town to ski, the Cataloochee Resort will provide it if Mother Nature doesn’t. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year with the wettest month being March.

Where is the nearest?
Grocery store – Ingles Grocery Store in Waynesville (about 20 minutes away) offers everything you would need during your stay. A Bi-Lo Grocery Store is just south of Ingles and a Walmart is not too far from there. Closer gas/convenience stores carry many staple grocery items.

Spacious home, perfect for group ski trip
This home perfectly accommodated our group of 9 adults for a weekend ski trip. Spacious and yet still very cozy and all the amenities listed are there plus plenty of games and tv, DVD etc for evening time. The location is very convenient to Cataloochee ski area. Marilyn was very responsive and helpful. My favorite was to sit with my coffee on the porch early morning and take in the stunning view. My only points were 1) the lower level bedroom was pretty chilly but I had brought extra blankets so not a problem and 2) if you have a big group, and plan to cook, you may want to bring serving dishes. We couldn't find any big ones, oh and a knife sharpener : ) thanks for the wonderful stay!

Owner response:
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay at Carolina Mountain Dream. I appreciate you letting me know about the lack of serving pieces. Unfortunately, sometimes time constraints make it difficult for our housekeeping staff to verify that all supplies are on hand and some items may break or "disappear" and they may not realize they're missing. But I will make sure that it is corrected and although I never thought to get a knife sharpener, I will add it to the shopping list as well.
And yes, the lower lever is always going to be cooler which is welcome in the summer, but does require an extra blanket in the winter.

Glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to having you back at Carolina Mountain Dream again.

My husband, mother, family friend and I truly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful home! Everything was clean, stocked and the location & view was out of this world, yet still private! Beautiful porches wrap this home for relaxing evening time. We enjoyed watching the badgers roaming around the hillside foraging for food. True 'perfection' with 3 floors so everyone had their own 'space' with a bathroom. Just to note..2 in our group were 81+ and they had no problem with the stairs. Also, TV's were located in each bedroom and also in the living area. Wonderful stove/oven with a charcoal grill downstairs for fixing a meal. What else can I say...space, space and more space and awesome views of Maggie Valley!

Your home was perfect. It met our expectations in every way. The interior was cozy and inviting â just what was needed after long days of hiking. The view from the deck was exceptional â we enjoyed a couple glasses of wine in the evenings rocking back and forth and taking in the beautiful scenery to include the two love birds on the branch of the tree just off the deck, the bumble bee who dropped by for a pit stop to clean itself every evening at the same time and the badger out for its evening meal keeping a close eye on us between bites. Our son and daughter named the badger after my daughter's boyfriend. It was cute. She thought she could go pet it. The badger wasn't very amenable to her entreaties, as you can well imagine. It quickly waddled (their scampering is adorable) into its homemade den at the bottom of the slope. And speaking of scampering, my wife caught a quick glimpse of a black bear scampering across the Blue Ridge Parkway as we rounded a bend. Unfortunately, the rest of us didn't see it. Maybe next time! We might be making a trip back up to Maggie Valley this Fall so perhaps we'll check out your Waynesville home if we decide to make the trip.

I just spent a full week in the mountains in the most amazing home! There is honestly not one negative thing that I can say about this amazing vacation home. Things to do anywhere from 2 minutes away from the home and beyond. Everything listed is exactly what you get. The pictures look like they were taken yesterday. Extremely clean, well kept, cozy, spacious, breathtaking, etc. I would plan any further trips to North Carolina in this very same home, without thinking twice! Thank you to the owners!

This is a very clean, comfortable, and spacious mountain home located on a mountain side just above the town of Maggie Valley. We had four adults and two young girls and there was plenty of room for everyone even for someone in need of a place for peace and quiet. Marilyn is extremely easy to work with and will respond quickly if you have any issues or questions. We even received our maintenance deposit refund within several hours of checkout! If we return to the area we would definitely try to stay here again! If not possible we would consider renting the other house they own in the Waynesville area referred to as EVERVIEW.

This house is very spacious and has lots of room. It was well stocked with lots of towels, sheets, etc. The view was nice and it was quiet and peaceful. Being able to bring our dogs was a major plus. We all enjoyed our stay there. The only negative things I can say is that most of the pillows in the house need to be replaced. They were lumpy or flat and not real comfortable. The other thing is having to take trash to a pickup station which is a few miles from the house. That was a pain since they only have certain hours and it was the Christmas holidays (husband and son-in-law tried to take it Christmas day, but they were closed and locked up). Good thing we stayed until the day after Christmas or we would have had to leave it and be charged the $25. All in all the rental met our expectations.

My Response
Thank you for submitting your review. I only get to visit our home once or twice a year, so I depend on feedback from our guests to know when something isn't quite as expected. I appreciate you letting me know about the pillows and will look into replacing them right away. Sorry but I can't do anything about the trash pick-up, though. Garbage trucks are not able to maneuver the mountain roads and all residents and guests must dispose of it themselves. A little bit of a trade off in life in exchange for the spectacular mountain views at 3000 feet elevation. I would like future guests to know that I provide a list of trash sites with their hours and days of operation, so that garbage can be disposed of during your stay as you travel around town doing your sightseeing or other activities. You and your family took very good care of our home and are welcome back anytime.

This was an easy and trouble free rental from beginning to end. The owner was great to work with quick responses to my questions and the home was perfect for us.

The home offered a great view and is located centrally to just about everything we wanted to do while there. The whole experience just couldn't have been better.

Thank you again Marylin, you and the home were both great, and we look forward to our next rental with you!

If you like the Smoky Mountains this is a great place to stay. Sitting on the side of a mountain, the views are spectacular! The house was so clean and well stocked with towels, kitchen items, cable TV, comfortable bed, everything you need away from home. The landscaping around the house was beautiful. We were there in May, and flowers blooming, cool nights making the stay very comfortable. We would stay there again in a heart beat. Sitting on the porch looking over Maggie Valley, so close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, made the vacation the perfect place to stay.

Beautiful Location

Beautiful home with beautiful views. We had 8 people and had plenty of room. The house had views from front and back. Really enjoyed the hot tub out back. The kitchen well stocked with dishes and pots and pans. Comfy beds is always great! This home is very nice located in a great neighborhood.

A scenic and well appointed property

The upper and lower decks provide an excellent vista of the Smokey Mountains and nearby valleys. The property is reasonably close to Ashville, Waynesville and Hendersonville and the Asheville airport. The floor plan is excellent for either an extended family or a group of friends. Nicely furnished.

Thank you very much for taking the time to let others know about our home from a guest's perspective. I agree that the views front just about every room in our home are spectacular. And with so many activities and attractions within a short distance, you may not have had a chance to do it all in one trip. So, please keep Everview in mind if you decide to return to this magnificent area in the future.

We had a great time. The area and home were extremely well kept. We felt very secure and safe. It is a quiet neighborhood and we enjoyed the bunnies, birds, cattle, and horses we saw from the porches.

Amazing views. Amazing house.

We have been traveling to this general area for many years. This is by far the best house in the best location. The house is around 15 minutes or so from downtown Waynesville, and is very easy to find. The gated community is very well maintained and full of friendly neighbors! The views from both the front and back porches is beautiful. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch watching the sun set. The house itself is exactly as it looks in the pictures. It is very well taken care of, and is the cleanest house we have stayed in so far. Each room was well furnished, especially the kitchen! This is one of the only houses that has more than sufficient towels. The owner was incredibly responsive when we had questions. I would highly recommend this house to anyone considering this area.

Waynesville Family winter vacation

We rented this property for 4 nights during the Christmas time. It was a reunion with my sister's family from pa and two nieces from NYC. Its located in a very nice, quiet and peaceful neighborhood. The owner seems very caring and was available anytime to answer any questions. We arrived at night and the access to the location and house was not a problem at all. The house was sparkling clean, very well decorated and very spacious (loved the closet spaces) to fit in two families with kids. We woke up to a beautiful sunrise and scenic view from the windows. This house has all the necessary items one can think of. We had the best relaxed vacation at this house, wish we had more time to extend our stay further. We all were really sad to leave and planned to come back again to enjoy the house more. All attractions, grocery stores are close by, we took the kids for tubing which was only 15-20 min drive in Maggie Valley and kids had a blast. We discovered the best coffee shop (Panacea coffee house) in Waynesville downtown area which was also beautiful to walk around. The walk around Lake Janulushka was wonderful as well. Overall, a lovely place to relax and enjoy family away from the usual touristy commercial places. The owner has done an amazing job in maintaining this house. We have already started making plans for our next vacation at this house and will definitely recommend to our other friends and family.

It was a pleasure speaking with you in regards to the rental. I'm glad you had a chance to spend time with family. Our home is perfect for that kind of get-together. And thank you for the recommendations. We will definitely look into the ping pong table and basketball hoop. Both great ideas. I'm looking forward to visiting Panacea as well the next time we're there. I'm starting to get inquiries for next year already, so let me know when you'd like to return and I'll be glad to set that up. Hope 2014 brings many blessings to you and your family.

We stayed at this location for 11 days. If you're from Florida or anywhere in the lower south you will love, love this house. The weather was so cool that we turned off the air in July. The view from the porch was incredible!!! The house was very well furnished with much more than we could ever used in our stay. What I liked best, well it's hard to say because there were so many things I liked. The house was spotless, well furnished, lots of room and the weather was fantastic!!
