Description of the Makaha vacation condo rental

Our two-bedroom, one-bath, vacation rental condominium is located at Makaha Valley Plantation, a gated residential community on the Leeward Coast (the west side of Oahu Island). Makaha has stunning scenery, beautiful sandy beaches for diving,surfing and swimming, and eco-nature trails without the hassle of the tourist hype and congestion of Waikiki or its high prices! Yet, besides its natural and marine attractions, you can find shopping, restaurants, and cinemas nearby along with a true flavor for traditional Hawaiian culture and the Aloha way of life.

Makaha is only one hour from Waikiki by car, public bus is available right to the Makaha Valley Plantation gate (#40A). So you can still enjoy the shopping and night life of Honolulu and the rest of Oahu, but enjoy Makaha's tranquillity, authentic cultural setting, and the beauty of its star-filled night skies, clean sandy beaches stretching for days - without hordes of hula-shirted tourists. With its partial ocean views in front and the mountain vistas behind, our condo in MVP is about one mile from Makaha Beach so it's a healthy stroll of 15-20 minutes to the beach or a minute by car or bicycle. The Makaha Valley Plantation complex was once part of the Sheraton Resort, which remains next door as the Makaha Resort and Golf Club.

MVP is a gated residential complex of three-story condo buildings in a large garden-like property with 24/7 security. Our condo, a ground floor, end unit, has been recently renovated with new carpeting, tile floors and fixtures. The bedrooms have traditional Japanese futons on queen-size platform beds ( cotton-stuffed mattresses on foam pads on the two double beds. There is an extra twin futon (on floor); the living room sofabed will also sleep two more. Futons are firm and comfortable and are the way many Hawaiians sleep.The condo can sleep up to seven people (at no extra charge, except for additional cleaning fee needed when there are more than 4 guests.)

The furnishings are functional, clean and comfortable. It's a self-service apartment - not an elegant and expensive resort, but as our second home, it will suit the budget traveler, family vacationers, and retirees looking to save big bucks on hotels or condo costing three or four times more.

There are two pools at Makaha Valley Plantation (one quiet and one for the "kids") with hot tubs; coin laundries are onsite. There are two public golf clubs in walking distance. (One is where formerly the Hawaii Open was held -- Makaha Resort & Golf Club; it has one of the lowest fees in Hawaii. Parking: one free parking space; limited extra guest parking. Condo layout: two bedroom condominium, carpeted living room, dining with new ceramic tile with adjoining kitchen. Our ground floor unit with lanai ( 5' x 15'balcony), is the end one in the building. It has floor-to-ceiling glass for bright airy breezes and partial ocean view in the living/dining area. You won't need air conditioning, although there is a fan. The fully-equipped kitchen includes dishes and flatware for six, plus cooking pots and utensils.

You will not find a better value for your travel dollar than Makaha. Our Makaha Valley Plantation condo will be sure to satisfy both your budget and your needs for quiet, comfortable accommodation and an exciting Aloha vacation experience. We stay there every two to three months, so I am sure you'll love it too.
NOTE: It is modestly furnished, self-serviced condo. There is no maid service and you must clean up after yourselves -- washing your own dishes, wiping up spills, vacuuming the carpets, taking out trash -- leaving the place as you found it.
