Area Description

You are walking distance to Central and Riverside Parks, Museum of Natural History, Fairways, Zabars, Movie theatres and Lincoln Center. Public transportation is one block away.

Safety
Ranked as one of the safest neighborhoods in Manhattan, famous people regard this upper west side neighborhood as safe, for we have actors Alec Baldwin a few blocks down, Ben Stiller and Mick Jagger, Barbara Streisand, Jerry Seinfeld, Demi Moore, and Madonna live nearby. The NYC police department 20th precinct is located two blocks away on 82nd Street and columbus avenue

Interesting places abound nearby

Dreamy and evasive Cafe Alou on 83rd between Columbus and Broadway is where Tom Hanks dated Meg Ryan in You Got Mail. The pastry is as luscious and decadent as the French decoration. A must visit. Then around the corner you have the best Hazelnut coffee in town. The place is called Drip and do pay attention to the stationary computers and myriad of folders. It is one of the most ingenious dating concepts in a coffee shop.

Then later at night you have Lava Lounge that has an exceptional red lounge room with huge pillows and a basement lava room. It changed names recently but ask around on 83-84th Street on Columbus and you will be directed in the right direction. In addition, just walking down Columbus you must take advantage of the exquisite Snapper presented at Calle Ocho between 82nd and 83rd Street on Columbus. It was spectacular and is a must treat. The oyster lovers will be pleasantly served on Columbus between 78th-79th Street at Ocean Grill with your own private fire place, find it and for a final enjoyment of privacy, find Cafe Artistes at 1 w. 67th. Of course, you must visit Tavern on the Green which is located a stone throw away in Central Park off Central Park West and 70th Street. These are the secrets of the Upper West Side. Indulge this and don 't forget that Lincoln Center and the Shakespeare in the Park have free performances all summer long, every summer. Lincoln Center has live music bands outdoors on Lincoln Plaza for free for 4-6 hours each Saturday night during the summer' All from Salsa, Jazz, and Classical to anything that makes you move.

 4 Nights in Manhattan, November 22, 2008
By Rebecca Martin (Western Australia)
The apartment was great once we had manhandled two suitcases up two flights of stairs. The entrance to the building the foyer and stairwell didn't do justice to the quality of the apartment so it was a huge relief upon opening the door and seeing a modern inviting interior with excellent conveniences and appliances. Very compact but had everything you could want. We were also pleased with the location, central to everything a very good area and the information provided extremely helpful. All in all we had a great stay and would definitely go there again.

Perfect place to stay, November 8, 2008
By Michael Bauer-Leeb (Vienna, Austria)
Our party of four stayed for a week in NYC. The apt is comfortable and very roomy, especially compared with std hotel rooms in NYC. Elaine and Tony are absolutely kind hosts and help wherever they can - they let us stay longer on our departure day due to late flights of ours. The apt is located in a quiet street, there are two subway stations within 5 minutes walking distance - you'll be downtown and back in no time! In the neighborhood you'll find a lot of good restaurants - the "Nice Matin" on Amsterdam&79th has good breakfast and lunch specials, and you can meet popular actresses there - in our case Kyra Sedgewick ;-) as well as grocery stores and shopping amenities. Central Park and Riverside Park are close for taking a quick stroll. We'll definitely stay again, and we can highly recommend this apt.

 Great location, October 20, 2008
By Alicia Oliver (Lookout Mountain, TN)
My family recently stayed in this apartment. The apartment was clean and more spacious than a hotel room (for about the same price). The UWS is a great neighborhood for families. Great restaurants and close to the Museum of Natural History and Central Park. We will definitely stay again!

upper west side flat, September 22, 2008

 Highly recommend, September 21, 2008
By Karen (New Orleans, LA)
This is a great location, close to subway, museum of Natural History and many great restaurants, shopping and bars. Very comfortable, clean and fully equipped. I have always stayed in a hotel but never again! Will definitely be back. The neighborhood is very safe and you really feel like a true local when you stay here! Elaine and Tony were great! I highly recommend this apartment and I promise you will not be dissapointed!

By Marta (Valencia, Spain)
My friens, my husband, my son(2 years) and I spent 9 days in NYC. The apartment´s location is fantastic this area is very quiet but at the same time with a lot of restaurants and interesting shops. Also is near to Central Park and museums and near subway stops. Apartment was well equipped, very clean and the owners were very kind. I would recommend this apartment to anyone wishing to spend their holidays in NYC. Thank you and I wish see you soon.

Great Location; Nice Apartment, August 26, 2008
By Steve (Austin, Tx)
This is very nice apartment in a wonderful, safe, energetic area of the Upper West Side. The location cannot be beat -- close to the Park, AMNH and other popular venues. Shopping, transporation and restaurants of all types are close-by and accessible. (I appreciated ESSENTIALS PLUS on Broadway near 81st -- a small store front opens to a cavernous drugstore/small foodstore/ice cream shop/candy store with a huge TOYSTORE upstairs, complete with a train table for young kids our kids LOVED IT. Prices reasonable too. Then walk up a few blocks for street venders selling nice fresh veggies/fruit.) The apartment itself is quite comfortable, with an excellent small kitchen and eating area and comfortable rooms with AC. The bathroom is quite small and not quite up to the standards of the balance of the apartment, but certainly nothing problematic. Tony and Elaine remained in e-mail contact prior to arrival and then phone contact -- very thoughtful [let us check in 1 hr early]. Enjoy!

Very Nice Apartment, July 25, 2008
By Dwight G. Blomander (Regina,SK Canada)
This was our fifth time back to NYC, but the first time we rented an apartment. We enjoyed our stay. We appreciated the fact that there were three air conditioners to keep us cool for when we arrived back at the apartment.Location was excellent. Your only a block away from the American Museum of Natural History. There are also dozens of street side restuarants in the area. You are only a block and a half from a subway east or west. That is very important to us. We would not hesitate in recommendinding this location to anyone.

A good place to be, July 19, 2008
By family Neijens (Amsterdam)
We loved the appartement. We were there with a family, two girls 16 and 17 years old. We saw everything you have to see in NYC, especially the shops. Nice environment, close to Central Park (sports for the parents) and Amsterdam Av and Broadway with a lot of shops for the girls, open until late in the evening. We were gald that there was airco and fan in each room because it was hot, and that it worked!

Summer in the City, June 29, 2008
By Doris Prickett (Corpus Christi, Texas)
As a former New Yorker on a visit with my daughters and grandchildren, we found the apartment spacious, close to everything. Being a native I enjoyed the STOOP, really felt like we were part of the neighborhood, surrounding neighborhood was lovely, at 70, I felt comfortable being out and about on my own, The third floor took some getting use to for this septuagenarian. Would definitely return and opt for the first floor, highly recommend this apartment, a positive experience and like Mac Arthur I will return. Thanks Elaine & Tony, it lived up to the advertisement. See you next year! Doris Prickett, Linda, Doree, Devin, Maranda

 Perfect, June 10, 2008
By Pam (Dallas, Texas)
Can't say enough about how great this apt. is, great area, close to everything, transportation easy, great coordination with tony, apt has ample space, good stock of necessities, just hope it is available our next trip.

By Joli Jacobs (Santa Rosa, CA USA)
My mother, daughter and I found this apartment very comfortable and we enjoyed being on a quiet, safe, lovely street close to museums, Central Park, metro, good restaurants and gourmet grocery stores. The kitchen was well-equipped, there were plenty of towels and linens, and communication with the property owners was very easy and dependable. Take note that the apartment is up two steep flights of stairs. Be ready and able to haul luggage and yourselves up and down!

Would stay here again..., June 2, 2008
By Toni Czajka (Milwaukee, WI)
The location was wonderful -- just a few blocks from Central Park with easy access to several subway lines. Less than a block away from restaurants of all different types. The owners were very helpful and flexible. After spending several minutes helping us understand the food and shopping options nearby -- he called us back to give us an address of something he didn't know off the top of his head. The apartment was clean and comfortable for our group of five -- with the climb to the 3rd floor after a long day being the only challenge. I would definitely recommend this apartment.

 Perfect location!, May 27, 2008
By The Morris's (Scottsdale, AZ USA)
My husband and I were in unit 3A for 14 days. The location is perfect - two blocks from Central Park, two blocks from the subway and near tons of shops and restaurants. The apt is well-equipped with plenty of towels, sheets, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, anything that you would need for a long stay. I think one reviewer mentioned no A/C, but there is A/C throughout (they were installed during our 3rd day). Elaine and Anthony were great to work with. I would definitely recommend this property.

Spring TIme in New York, May 27, 2008
By Tom Hay (Derby, UK)
My wife and I spent 10 days in NYC with our two young sons. We were visiting relatives who live on the Upper West Side, so this played a large part in our choosing this particular apartment. Having said this, I would recommend this apartment to anyone wishing to spend their holiday/vacation in NYC. The apartment's location is fantastic - right beside American Museum of Natural History and Central Park. Lots of great restaurants and amenities in walking distance on Columbus/Amsterdam Avenues and Broadway. Also good downtown Subway links for tourists who want to fit in all the sightseeing. Apartment was well equipped and the owners were quick to sort out an initial problem we had with an electrical socket! We plan to rent this apartment again when we are next in NYC as it was ideal. However, due to the lack of A/C we would probably not choose to stay here during the summer months. Thank you. See you next time!

 Great neighborhood, May 23, 2008
By Janet Muenz (Gaithersburg, MD)
Nice quiet street but right around the corner from dozens of restaurants and shops and 1 block from Zabar's!! Apt is up one flight of stairs, clean, small but well supplied kitchen.

 Convenient apartment, April 16, 2008
By Howe family (Sidmouth, Devon, UK)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this apartment. Although it is rather small, there was adequate space for two couples. Linen and towels were plentiful and of good quality. Apartment was clean and well-equipped and everything worked perfectly. We thought that it was good value given the location. A whole clutch of museums was within easy walking distance, as was Central Park. Excellent shopping and eating possibilities were nearby, and we still rave about Zabars.

 Totally recommendable!, April 8, 2008
By Mieke (Hamburg, GERMANY)
We stayed in the Apt. 2A for 12 days and totally loved it! We travelled together with my parents and the smaller bedroom was big enough to put up a portable crib for our toddler (almost 2). The Master Bedroom was "so far away" that the baby did not wake up my parents. Towels and sheets were clean and plenty. The owner came by regularly and after we asked her to turn down the heating a little it was done almost immediatly the same day. The Apt. is in perfect walking distance to Fairway (grocery store). A great place to order in chinese food is Ollie's at Broadway, btwn 67th & 68th Street. We would totally stay there again when travelling to NYC.

 Pleasant & Quiet, March 24, 2008
By Nick Hughes (Cardiff, Wales)
We (4) stayed here for a week and were pleasantly surprised by both the appt. and neighbourhood. Recommend the appt. for a small family. Close to many deli's and stores (google Zabars), unmissable museum at the end of the street (AMNH), subway one block away, you'll be in Times Square in minutes.

 Great Location, February 13, 2008
By MA (Los Angeles, CA)
A couple of my girlfriends and I stayed here and loved it!! The location was great, close enough to walk to Time Square and 5th Ave and most importantly, a safe neighborhood. We would stay here again if back in the area.

 Great location!, January 8, 2008
By kbd (Annapolis MD)
My family stayed at the apartment over the Christmas holiday - it is a lovely apartment and is in a great spot. It is in between 2 subway stops and there is everything you could possibly need within 2 blocks in any direction! The neighborhood is beautiful - clean, quiet and felt very safe at any time of the day.

 A great place to stay !, December 31, 2007
By Family Neijens (Eindhoven, the Netherlands)
This place is great. This is also a perfect location to stay with kids, close to Central Park and the AMNH. Kitchen appliances, TV, internet, bathroom, everything was working perfect. Linens provided were of good quality and the owner checked regularly if everything was in good order. Communication about renting this place with the owner was fast and easy and she always answered our questions properly. Very convenient to travel with the subway, starting at 81st street or 79th street, we didn't even use a car. We enjoyed traveling with the subway to crowded places like Times Square, Macy's, Century 21, Brooklyn Bridge, Grand Central Station, Empire State Building, etc... but we also enjoyed the Riverside Park and all the nice places to eat at Amsterdam Avenue, Columbus Avenue and Broadway in Upper West on walking distance. All in all: a great place to stay ! Ask the owner for our e-mail address, we're happy to give more info on request.

family weekend in the city, December 15, 2007

Excellent location and great value compared to staying at a hotel. Very close to Museum of Natural History, and Central Park. Nice quiet residential street. Would definitely recommend it to others.
Owner Supplied Testimonials
Dear Elaine,

Great location, well-presented, well-furnished and very spacious.Exactly what we needed. And all at a wonderful price. We'll be back!
Raymond Cheseldine
We throughly enjoyed our stay at the apartment we rented on W. 80th St.! Elaine Eng our host did a wonderful job making sure this apartment had everything we needed for the comforts of home.
This newly renovated two bedroom apartment also comes with a sofa bed in case your party needs the extra room. All the mattresses are new which adds to a wonderful nights sleep.
The apartment also has a kitchen where we feasted on all the wonderful treats that we bought at Zabar's which is just a short walk away. This Upper West Side neighborhood is filled with Zagat's best restaurants such as Gennero & Good Enough To Eat where one can enjoy wonderful food at a reasonable price.
Central Park & The Musuem of Natural History are just blocks away. We took the Subway to see a new Broadway Show every night. The Station is a block away on 79th & Broadway.
I highly recommend this apartment & neighborhood!
