Area Description

In recent years this ethnic neighborhood has become more gentrified; hosting people from all races and walks of life. Many good restaurants and little well known neighborhood secrets have crept up. The restaurants are inexpensive, the service is good and you don't have to wait 40 minutes for a table. We have been living here for over 10 years and love every minute of it. People are kind to each other, and always smile back. It's a family neighborhood, and very safe. It is a very multi-cultural area, just what you would expect of New York.

Subway #6 line is just two blocks away. Buses M15, M102, and M103 stop on either corner. It is very easy to get around town from here. Midtown is 15 minutes on the subway.

There is ample parking available on street, although from 8am-4pm there is no parking on school days due to a school across the way. Alternate side of the street is always in effect except major holidays.

Laundry facility is just around the corner as well as a grocery store, supermarket, and fruit stands.

OTHER INTERESTING THINGS TO DO:

Museum Mile, located on Fifth Avenue, where you will find the Metropolitan Museum, The Guggenheim, Jewish Museum, Frick Museum, and El Barrio Museum are all just a 20 minute stroll down 5TH Avenue or a 5 minute subway ride.

Jefferson Park 2 blocks away, hosts playgrounds, a new running track, and a dog run. The free public pool, which has been rated top 3 cleanest pools in NYC, has 2 sessions per day.

North Central Park is 4 blocks away, truly a lovely side of the park most visitors miss. There you will find lovely nature walks, Tennis courts, bike paths, a another public pool, an ice skating ring in the winter months, and a pond. The geese and ducks loved to be fed, so please bring bread. There is a wonderful garden, which is in bloom all summer long, located on E.106th Street and 5th Avenue.

Harlem Central just west, where you will find The Apollo, Sylvia's Soul Food, Dinosaurs BBQ ,(a must try) and all the wonders Harlem has to offer.

Space, Comfort, Economy!, February 13, 2009
By Colleen (Portland, OR USA)
For less money than most shoebox-sized hotel rooms in the city, my husband and I were able to live comfortably for a week without tripping over each other, cook when we didn't want takeout, and work on our laptops with the free WiFi. The subway's very close so we were able to move through the city easily. At the end of our daily adventures we were able to choose from more free cable TV channels than any hotel I've been in. The owners Elizabeth and Louis are more than generous with their hospitality and the bedroom faces the back garden, so NO street noise to bother our rest! I hope to stay again when it's warmer, so we can enjoy the garden space, and go rent a bike in Central Park. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Homely and Cosy Apartment!, January 9, 2009
By Emma Lattimore (Sydney, NSW, AUS)
Thank you Louis and Elizabeth- We had such a lovely time staying in your bottom level apartment. You were so helpful with information about NYC both before our arrival and during. The apartment itself was decorated so well and was always warm and cosy. It was great to take a bath and to have a kitchen... Thank you for the fresh juice and the croissants, they were delicious. It's about a 22 min ride to downtown and it has a great coffee shop (savoy) around the corner on 110th st. Central Park was also just a short walk away and was stunning in the winter. NYC is an amazing place and we enjoyed every minute of being in the city and in the apartment on 112th st. Thank you for a great stay. Em and Grant :)

 5* All the way, November 26, 2008
By Viplavi Sakhuja (England)
We had a wonderful stay in New York. Elizabeth was really helpful both in the run up to the holiday and during our stay. Any questions about New York, the accommodation - anything, she would reply promptly. On arrival we were welcomed and shown around. We were then left alone - throughout the stay we were given privacy but if we needed anything at all both Elizabeth and her husband were at hand to help. The apartment is very nice - modern decor and a very comfortable bed! Everywhere within Manhattan is only a short ride away with the subway being so close. All in all we would definitely recommend the apartment and will be staying there in any future visits!! Thanks for a great place and all your help!

Hi if you are looking for the new york experiance this is it . Cute; Roomy; clean ;centraly located a few minutes from everything . bed comfortable; kitchen roomy ; seating area perfect to have company and a yard to enjoy it was nice to sit under the patio and enjoy the light rain fall outside our first day . The cab ride from LGA was only $25 inc tip and cheaper going to the airport you ride one train (#6)straight to central station about five minutes away and another couple minutes walking or train to ground zero or a boat ride or tour everything was so close we went to the Bronk Zoo a must see and the three hour boat ride around the island .Every one we talked to were very helpfull with directions and even at 3 in the morning we felt safe every body was polite i was very surprised . I had to travel by a certain date and was surprised by the cost of staying at a nice hotel ; found this place by accident hunting on the web, as i been told there are no accidents i feel very blessed

When we arrived at the apartment after a long flight from the UK, it was so nice to receive a warm welcome from Elizabeth and her little daughter. We immediately felt at ease in our new environment and really helped us settle in. Elizabeth had some great tips of places to visit and eat and even brought us some juice and croissants on our first morning which was a lovely touch. The apartment was sunny and homely and all the living space was nicely presented. The apartment was a little out of town but the subway was close by and was cheap and easy to use so we got to see all the sights. I would highly recommend this apartment for if you want to stay out of the main streets in Manhattan and get a different experience of New York. If I were to come to beautiful New York again I would certainly consider staying here again. Thanks Elizabeth and family for making our stay so great and converting us to a love of New York too!

 Stay here!!!, August 19, 2008
By Maya (Woodstock, NY)
I absolutely loved my stay at this garden apartment! I felt so comfortable and at home and love the decor. It was so bright and cheerful and cosmopolitan. Oh, and the welcome basket was such a lovely surprise! It was just so nice to walk in those doors after travelling all day, and have a variety of fresh croissants and danishes to snack on. The chocolate one was my favorite. Talking of food, I was really impressed with some of the restaurants in the neighorhood. Delicious food, great music and friendly service. Getting around was pretty easy too. The subway was literally 2 blocks away and the bus was down the block. And the best part of my stay was the host's wonderful hospitality. She was so helpful, and knew so much about this city, like what to do and where to go. I felt like a true New Yorker following her advice! I will stay at this apartment everytime I come to the city!!

Hi Elizabeth,

Thank you very much for a very nice stay in New York. Both Stina and I enjoyed it fully in spite of the missing luggage.

We are both very convinced that we will be going to New York again in the future and will certainly choose to stay with you again.

I have also taken the liberty of giving this e-mail adress to a colleague of mine going to New York later in the year, so she might contact you in regards to availabillity and rates.

Once again thank you very much for a very pleasant stay.

All the best
