You'll slow down and unwind when you enter your private walled garden shaded by mature elm trees. Have a glass of wine or cup of coffee. Put your feet up and decide what you want to do and see tomorrow.

Inside your home away from home you'll enjoy an upscale and beautifully decorated apartment with all of the romance and charm of exposed brick walls, wide plank floors, a fireplace and original oil paintings. The spacious living room is a great place to relax and socialize with friends and family. A cushioned single Bahama bed is convenient for another guest and there are 2 fold open chairs that open into 2 single beds.

A quaint 150 year old opaque glass wall separates the living room and bedroom. Sleep well and wake up refreshed in the queen size bed with quality linens,a fluffy feather duvet and lots of extra pillows. There's plenty of room for all of your clothes and shopping sprees in a wall of custom fitted closets. The marble walled bathroom has a small tub with a rain shower and a glass vanity for the sink.

High quality plastic dishes and wine goblets are supplied if you prefer to dine in your private garden.

The dining area with cushioned window seat overlooks the peaceful garden. If you don't feel like cooking, just order in from the many nearby restaurants or have the grocery stores deliver. This is room service NYC style.

An adjacent 2-room 1/2 bath duplex suite is available for large families. The small downstairs room is furnished as an office/library and has a queen sized sofa bed with an additional innerspring mattress on top for additional comfort. Private interior stairs from the library lead to a large upstairs bedroom with your choice of a king size bed or 2 twin size beds, An ottoman folds out into a single bed if needed. A modern 1/2 bath is off of this room.

For everyone's comfort, this is a no smoking apartment. Smoking in the garden is always okay.

There are 5 rather shallow steps into the building, making it unsuitable for guests who might have a problem with stairs.

The apartment is one of three units in a private 4 story townhouse. It is on the garden floor in the back and is exceptionally quiet, clean, safe and secure. You'll find many extra modern details including remodeled kitchen, marble bathrooms, high hat lights in all of the rooms, a security buzzer to open the front doors and quality windows and doors.

It is said that the famous dancer Isadora Duncan once lived here. We haven't been able to confirm this but like to believe that it is true. We hope that you will spend some time here, too.

Great location BUT bad accomodations

December 12, 2012

1. We killed 12 mice over a span of 7 days. 2. TV went out on day 2 of visit but not replaced. 3. The owner does not accept constructive criticism.

Horific

August 20, 2009

I and my friends stayed at this apartment and it has definately put us all off ever visiting the USA again and we were frequent visitors. The owner of this apartment was rude unhelpful and quite frightening. We spent 4 of the hotest days of the year with no airconditioning and the apartment was infested with ants. She came to our room and shouted abuse at us for ten minutes one of the girls taped this and it is harrowing to listen to it. If i were you I would check out the properties I advertise on my site, I would not give it one out of five stars but you leave me no choice thank you

Very small and crammed Sofa beds so uncomfortable we got no sleep. Owner is most unreasonable person to deal with. She tried to throw us out onto street at 10:30 one night because we wanted the air conditioner fixed in the sweltering heat Ruined our trip!!!!

Location, location.
The location of this apartment and the overall comfort it afforded us, played a big part in the success of our New York City vacation. Before we arrived, I was nervous that the rental unit would not measure up to our expectations but I need not have.

The apartment worked well for us - one couple and three 16- and 17-year-old teenagers. Everyone had room to spread out, especially at the end of the day. We read in the bedroom, the young ones played cards, watched TV in the main room and snacked in the kitchen. Everyone was happy.

I especially loved reading the newspaper in the back patio...what an oasis! While we visited the weather broke records, 25 degrees Celsius in March...I can imagine how wonderful this little spot must be in summer, especially when you can fire up the BBQ.

Being so close to a subway stop was a huge plus. We got around town easily and, when we tired, we were able to come back for a break and, then, set out again. Before long, I felt comfortable letting our teenage travelers set out on their own.

Marea was away when we visited but her husband Gene was a wonderful host/tour guide/television remote trouble-shooter. Just after our arrival, the toilet got plugged up but Gene had a plumber around and the toilet fixed by the time we got back from dinner, two hours later.

Wonderful place we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay! We took a long time choosing where to stay and read all the reviews which did help a lot, that is why I want to help people looking to stay in New York. It was our first time in NY and Marea made our stay very memorable and enjoyable. Marea has a very special welcome for all her guests and takes great care to make sure you have a good stay.
The townhouse is in a fabulous location with the Empire State Building as your point of reference, it is very clean and comfortable with lots of space. The garden is a great bonus.
I had heard that New Yorkers don't cook, well, Marea shows you how that works and it was a real benefit to us. Marea is around if you need her but she is not intrusive. The house has a very homely feel to it, the amenities are just as described and the kitchen is well equipped. Marea keeps a small lader stock ie coffee, tea, sugar, condiments etc.
Myself, my husband, my daughter and her husband with their two children stayed in the house, with lots of room. My 7yr old granddaughters best memory of NYC is visiting and purchasing from the american Girl store, she/we would not have known anything about this unless Marea had told us.
We would Recommend to anyone and I will defiantly return here on my next visit. If you want to have a stay in NYC that is different from your 'run of the mill' hotel then stay here!!

What a fabulous time!
Our group stayed at a wonderful apartment run by Marea. She was such a fountain of information even before we got there! Our group was composed of mothers and daughters celebrating the girl's senior trip and what a time we had. Marea was very accommodating and made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. The location of the apartment was close to Park ave and just a couple of blocks from the subways. We felt very safe which was important for our group. The apartment was charming and clean and had a lovely private yard which is very unusual in the city. The kitchen was very user friendly, but we went out most meals...many restaurants are close by.
New York was a new experience for most of our group, and Marea was there to give us input when we asked for it. She is a wealth of information and a gracious hostess. We had a great experience.

Great hospitality
Great hospitlity, excellent position in the heart of Manhattan, two minutes from the metro station and five minutes from the Empire State Building.
Mrs Marea was very nice, providing us a lot of informations and support (and a pleasant welcome happy hour with New Yorker white wine).
Last but not least the relaxing garden.

Fantastic stay...try it
I was in NY with my family in august 2012. We had a lovely time at the apartment, it felt like home. The fact that we travelled with little children could have been a challenging experience but, they had all the space to play.

We recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful stay in NY.

Wonderful stay in New York
This apartment is perfectly positioned in Midtown, within a short walking distance, to access all of the attractions my family and I wished to visit. We wanted to live like New Yorkers for a short while and this apartment provided the perfect place to meet this requirement at a very reasonable cost, given that accommodation in NY is very expensive, even compared with England / London prices. The host Marea is charming and has a wealth of knowledge and experience and her warm greeting coupled with a complementary bottle of wine was lovely and set us up for a great stay. The beds were cosy with clean linen. The dining kitchen area is well furnished and the apartment has a new TV, free Wifi and telephone. The shower and sink unit had very hot water at all times of the day and night even for all 5 of us, two adults and three children. The guide book is informative with good tips to follow. We took advantage of the free Vibe tour with Sami and this was fantastic. He is a charming guide with a great knowledge of the city. We learned so much on the first day that we felt good about being on our own in the Big apple on day 2. Close by the apartment are good restaurants for breakfast, lunch and diner. However if you wanted to stay in and cook there is a food emporium only 2 minutes walk away. We walked about 10 miles a day and covered all the attractions: skating at Bryant park, central park, times square, broadway, rockefeller centre, Empire state, Madison Square gardens, 5th avenue is but two avenues away. The subway if you prefer to ride is a couple of streets away and a short ride to Downtown Manhattan for Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, 911 memorials, the harbour and all of the beautiful views of the surrounding Islands and the Statue of Liberty

Safe, Convenient, Quiet

This apartment is perfect for any family visiting NYC. Quiet and convenient - only 2 blocks to the 6 train! Walk to Empire State Building and Flatiron Building. So quiet we could sleep past noon! Marea, the hostess is gracious and better than a local tour guide. She gives the information that only a resident really knows: restaurants, bargain shopping, how to save on broadway shows. Neat, tidy, and intriguing building in a great section of Manhattan. The private courtyard takes you into a secret world!

Marea,I just wanted to thank you again for the privilege of using your apartment while we were in NYC. We had a fantastic time, really an amazing vacation, and your apartment helped make that happen. I really do appreciate all your help!By the way, the morning that we left we stopped at the bagel shop that you recommended, and sure enough, everyone liked it better than the first one that we went to. Also, Dee Dee and I ate sushi at Iron Sushi our last night, and your recommendation was right on target. Thanks!Anyhow, thanks again for your part in the Clark's great New York vacation! My wife and I, and all six of our children, had a great time.Take care!Tony

Just wanted to say that our stay at Marea's property was lovely. We stayed 3 nights last week and had a fabulous time. Marea went above and beyond the norm from the moment I contacted her about this rental. She was very very helpful in every area. She answered all my emails in a very timely manner and was always extremely nice. The apartment and suite was very accomodating for our group of NINE girls. Yes, having only one shower was a bit trying at times but it all worked out beautifully. I felt very safe in the area and would recommend this rental to anyone who is desiring a good, clean, safe place to stay while visiting NYC. Thanks Marea for all you did to make our stay a memorable one!

What a great welcome! After traveling 36 hours we arrived to a delightful welcome from Marea. From here on, it only got better. Our stay was for 12 days with 2 "parents" and 5 "kids" aged 18 to 24. The location was spot on with the subway 5 min walk and Times Square an easy 15-20 min. All amenities are within 3-5 min walk. Great safe locale. The apartment itself was adequate for our uses with an outdoor area that included a wonderful Xmas tree and REAL snow!!! We lucked out, as they say. We silly Kiwis also had a Xmas BBQ outside in minus 6c and dinner for 10 in the apartment. We used all rooms with seven actually staying however we really only slept there and were out and about from 9am-10am until late (great bars and restaurants around the area). 2 toilets and one shower (good pressure). Very comfortable beds. Plenty of towels. Beats 3-4 hotel rooms any day. This apartment only added to our Big Apple experience. Thanks Marea and Family and yes, see you in New Zealand sometime soon. Regards John and Family.

had a truely excellent week 1st week in December 2008 staying in this apartment, accommodation was great & its situation for seeing the sights, couldn't be beaten. Marea made us feel extremely welcome, her "inside" knowledge of the immediate area amd more, was so beneficial. We have recommded this accommodation to friends who are staying there in January 2009, and we ourselves very much hope to revisit in the near future. You will not be disapponited should you reserve the apartment or annex, at 118 30th East Street for your vacation in New York City.

Just back from a very memorable stay at Mareas townhouse in manhattan, the apartment and the suite suited our family so well, my son and two daughters all stayed in the duplex whilst myself and my husband stayed in the apartment, we all got together in the mornings in the lovely large living room to plan our day ahead and at the end of the day after all our sightseeing spent in end of the evening in front of the fire watching the tv, it suited us fine. Location was ideal subway within a mintues walk and 5th Ave just a moment away, had breakfast at penelopes on the corner, it was lovely, bluesmoke for bbq also very good all recommended by Marea. Thankyou so much for letting us stay in your lovely apartment and when we come back to New York we are sure to stay again. Only downside was only one shower but we managed and it didnt hold us up too much even with two grown up daughters, thanks again The Hynes family from England

Our family of 4 just spent 9 nights in this apartment. The owner is wonderful and helpful in getting your oriented. The apartment is large for NY and the garden is a gem. So much better than a hotel. Quiet, centrally located for walking or public transit. Lot's to do in the neighborhood. But it is the apartment that is so special. Clean, well taken care of, everything you need and everything is in working order. Highly recommend staying at Marea's place.

Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

My wife and 3 kids stayed here last week and had a great time. We stayed in the apartment, my dad and wife's brother and girlfriend stayed in the 2 room duplex. There was plenty of room for everyone and the living accomadations were fantastic. The outdoor patio was landscaped nicely and great to have. I grew up in NY and this was the first time for my family to visit the "Big Apple" and we all had a trip of a lifetime. The place is located in a very nice and safe part of Manhattan that is tree lined and quiet. There were restuarants, stores, and transportation all nearby. Marea was a wonderful and delightful host. She has provided a lot of useful information for her guests who have never been to Manhattan and for those who have. Based on the fun we had we plan on coming back next year and will most definetly be back at this great place. Once again I'd like to thank Marea for making our NY stay very fun and memorable. We had about 8 family members stay with Marea in May 2008. We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful home. The location was convenient, excellent, and the home was really cozy. It gave us a really great experience of living like a real New Yorker. Our family had a great time and highly recommend Marea's home.

We celebrated my wife's 40th birthday with her mother and her sister's family -- 9 people for a week in the Big Apple. If you've got a large group, there is no better deal in NYC than Marea's apartment, so book it early. You truly "live like a New Yorker," with the subway, funky shops and restaurants, and a zombie hobo all right around the corner. WE LOVED IT! Our girls, 10 and 12, were particularly impressed. It's great to have your own apartment to crash at rather than a stuffy and expensive hotel. And Marea is a great hostess -- helpful but unobtrusive. We'll be back!
