Area Information
Safety
Ranked as one of the safest neighborhoods in Manhattan, famous people regard this upper west side neighborhood as safe, for we have actors Alec Baldwin a few blocks down, Ben Stiller and Mick Jagger, Barbara Streisand, Jerry Seinfeld, Demi Moore, and Madonna live nearby. The NYC police department 20th precinct is located two blocks away on 82nd Street and Columbus Avenue
Interesting places abound nearby
Dreamy and evasive Cafe Alou on 83rd between Columbus and Broadway is where Tom Hanks dated Meg Ryan in You Got Mail. The pastry is as luscious and decadent as the French decoration. A must visit. Then around the corner you have the best Hazelnut coffee in town. The place is called Drip and do pay attention to the stationary computers and myriad of folders. It is one of the most ingenious dating concepts in a coffee shop.
Then later at night you have Lava Lounge that has an exceptional red lounge room with huge pillows and a basement lava room. It changed names recently but ask around on 83-84th Street on Columbus and you will be directed in the right direction. In addition, just walking down Columbus you must take advantage of the exquisite Snapper presented at Calle Ocho between 82nd and 83rd Street on Columbus. It was spectacular and is a must treat. The oyster lovers will be pleasantly served on Columbus between 78th-79th Street at Ocean Grill with your own private fire place, find it and for a final enjoyment of privacy, find Cafe Artistes at 1 w. 67th. These are the secrets of the Upper West Side. Indulge this and don’t forget that Lincoln Center and the Shakespeare in the Park have free performances all summer long, every summer. Lincoln Center has live music bands outdoors on Lincoln Plaza for free for 4-6 hours each Saturday night during the summer' All from Salsa, Jazz, and Classical to anything that makes you move.
Enjoy the following special events: February- Presidents week, Valentines Day; March-St. Patrick’s Day parade; April-Easter Parade Fifth Avenue; May-NYC bicycle race, Memorial Day weekend; June-start of summer; July 4 celebration; August- U.S. Open tennis; September-Labor day weekend. Columbus Day parade; October-Halloween and NYC Marathon; November-Thanksgiving Day Parade, see parade balloons blown up on 79th street; December-Christmas and New Years

Reviews for this vacation apartment rental in Manhattan, New York

Great location, Great Apartment, Nice and Easy!!!
April 14, 2012
Enough space for six persons, cozy apartment, very quiet and safe. Near by 81th subway station, very close to Central Park. Is close to many grocery stores, I recommend the Zabar's. There are a lot of variety of restaurants and places to have breakfast or do a brunch. The apartment is very well equipped, the internet is fast. In short, is an excellent apartment to meet and discover NYC. The owner is very discreet and friendly. It was a great trip, a fantastic experience.

This was just the perfect place to rent for a New York City family reunion. I would recommend it highly.

Nice Area, nice accomodations
November 13, 2009
Accomodations were nice and well appointed. Everything appeared to be clean, but we noted dirt and food particles underneath the sofa. However, overall, we would stay here again because of the ideal location and the relatively economical rates, along with all the amenities in the condo.

Just Right!

This was a great place to stay - two nice bedrooms, good kitchen and comfortable. A great part of Manhattan and close to the trains. I'm going to stay here again! Katherine

Great for Families Looking to Explore NYC
August 9, 2009
The neighborhood is wonderful and the apartment was clean, well-equipped, and spacious enough for our family of five. The location could not be better, in a safe and fun neighborhood close to restaurants and attractions. We were able to explore the city easily from this "home base" with many attractions within walking distance and metro stops nearby. Central Park, the Natural History Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Zabar's, and restaurants galore are all within easy walking distance. We would definitely recommend the apartment and would stay again ourselves.

safe and satisfied
May 25, 2009
This second floor apt was in a safe neighborhood and close enough (within two blocks) to three subway lines. This is a long, narrow apt with larger bedroom in the rear with twin beds for two of our kids, a pullout couch in the small living room for our college son, and a smaller but adequate bedroom with a comfortable king size bed in the front of the apt. The walls are thin and we could hear a baby crying and people moving around above us. Yet, we were so tired we didn't mind. Renters were responsive and available. Didn't need more than an extra towel. Internet wokred well thru ethernet cable they provided. Safe enough that we let teenage daughter walk around the upper west side alone during daylight hours. Right next to Museum of Natural History. Need to climb about twenty fairly steep steps to get to your second floor apt. Highly recommend this for families of four or five who want to spend a week exploring New York. I would stay here with my family again.
