As Langston Hughes put it: "There is so much to see in Harlem." Visit Hamilton Grange, the country estate of Alexander Hamilton; Riverbank State Park, with its wonderful carousel and a spectacular view of the George Washington Bridge; the beautiful architecture of City College (CUNY); the lovely row houses of Hamilton Heights (often called Sugar Hill) that have been home to Count Basie, US Chief Justice Thurgood Marshall and boxing great Sugar Ray Robinson; and Strivers' Row (a reference to the upward mobility of the doctors, lawyers and other middle-class professionals who purchased homes here) on 138th and 139th streets.
Any day is a good one to come uptown, but Sundays are, for many, the best time to hear gospel singing at churches like the Gothic-style Abyssinian Baptist (where the charismatic Adam Clayton Powell once preached), Visitors of all races and creeds are given a warm welcome (please remember to dress appropriately for church).
For a taste of Southern hospitality and stomach-and-spirit satisfying soul food at a restaurant such as Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Sylvia's, Amy Ruth's or Bayou. Hopping nightspots include the Lenox Lounge, St. Nick's Pub for great Jazz, the world famous Appolo Theatre. For great music, dance theatre, Aaron Davis Hall and the Gate House.
Museums nearby include The Museum of Natural History and the Rose Planetariun, The Studio Museum of Harlem, The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. The fantastic Bronx Zoo, a must if travelling with children, is just 15 minutes away

dear Carola, July 22, 2009
Everything as promised, May 29, 2009 I am writing to say how much my family and I enjoyed our stay at your piedaterre on Edgecombe Ave. last summer.
Being an interior designer, naturally I couldn't help but notice the lovely details of of the apartment. The moment we stepped into the lobby, I felt as if we'd landed in a hotel in Florence Italy, or one in Mexico. The cool tile floors in the lobby and plaster walls, along with the fusion of eclectic furnishings, were so inviting they made me swoon.
The suite was very comfortable and made us feel right at home. With two teenagers in tow, my husband and I couldn't have made a better choice. In the mornings, while the kids played with their digital toys and watched their television at one end of the apartment, we were able to sleep in wihtout being disturbed. Joy!
For the two weeks we were in New York, we became natives of Harlem. One of my more mememorable evenings we spent there was spreading out our blanket on the grass in St. Nicholas Park, eating a picnic dinner and sharing wine with the 'neighbors' sitting on their blanket next to ours, while we enjoyed an African Dance performance and a film under the stars. Heavenly!
The next time our travel plans bring us back to we will definiatley book the suite again!
We send you our best regards,
The Clarke Family
We loved the apartment, so convenient and easy to move into.
We are so glad that you suggested the wonderful Gospel service at Abyssinia Church and the walk around your beautiful neighbourhood.
I don't know how we could have managed in a hotel with the 3 kids.
We hope to come back again next summer.
Best regards,
Johnny and Elisa Delas
